Lance Bass Talks About *NSYNC’s Encounter with a Pedophile
While on his new daytime talk-show with Meredith Vierira, former boy-bander Lance Bass spoke candidly about his experience with a pedophile during NSYNC’s early years. While he never explicitly states the extent of the interactions he does describe the experience.
“When I was 16, 17 years old, when we started there was someone that we worked with that was inappropriately touching us. I was even aware then at 16 that this guy was a pedophile and he was touching me oddly, but I didn’t feel victimized at the time because I was very aware of it. But it happens to us too. With the guys we would talk about it – we would kind of joke about it – but it’s not a joking thing. As a kid it was odd but I’m glad that we were aware of it and didn’t feel victimized at the time.”
You’re right, Lance, sexual abuse in any capacity is no joking matter. We certainly hope Bass’ decision to be open about the experience aids others in their decision to come forward. The stigma surrounding sexual abuse can only be shed by the abused having a voice and regaining control.

Hometown Hero Spencer Stone Stabbed After Leaving Gay Bar
For the second time in three months, the name Spencer Stone is making headlines. In August, the 23-year-old American gained notoriety after assisting in the take-down of a terrorist while aboard a French train.
Unfortunately, Stone was unable to disarm the attacker who stabbed him repeatedly with a box cutter after an altercation escalated outside Badlands, a Sacramento gay bar. After making it through a rough night, Stone is in stable condition suffering from “non life-threatening but very significant injuries.”
Currently, no arrests have been made, the suspects were described as Asian males who were last seen in a late-model Toyota Camry.

Candace Bure Asks Danny Pintauro If He Takes Responsibly for His HIV Status
Danny Pintauro, best know for his role as Jonathan Bower on Who’s The Boss, recently came out as HIV positive. His proclamation has inspired mainstream media outlets, such as The View, to discuss HIV. After appearing on the daytime talk show to discuss his status, the LGBT community is up in arms regarding Candace Cameron Bure, a new panelist for the show best known as DJ Tanner on Full House, and her questions regarding Pintauro’s choices that led to his positive HIV status

During the interview, Bure boldly asks Pintauro a few extremely personal questions.
“I want to know, do you take responsibility for your actions? For being promiscuous, going into a lifestyle of having heightened sex because of the meth that you were using? I want to know what the message is. Because you want to be the face of HIV, to give that a face. But what is the message that you have? What does that mean?” Bure asked.
Although many LGBTs are angry with Bure’s questions, she never criticizes, blames, or implies that Pintauro became HIV positive because he’s gay. Instead, she focuses on his recreational drug use and poor decisions.
“I want to know, do you take responsibility for your actions? For being promiscuous, going into a lifestyle of having heightened sex because of the meth you were using?”
Pintauro immediately takes responsibility for his choices that led to becoming HIV positive. Pintauro says he doesn’t want to be a hero. “I don’t want to be a role model. I want to be an example,” he said.
By disclosing his current medical condition and previous substance abuse, Pintauro is using his platform, with the assistance of shows like The View, and reporters like Bure to prompt dialog about two detrimental conditions plaguing the queer community — unsafe sex and drug use, which according to Independent, a UK publication, is 7 times higher in the gay community.
We commend Pintauro for taking responsibility and being transparent. It is imperative to not only discuss the disease but the actions that can cause life-altering consequences. As for Mrs. Cameron-Bure, cut her a little slack. If we kill her with kindness, we might just gain another ally, right? You can watch the full interview here.
