After playing openly gay crooner Blaine Anderson on Glee, Darren Criss is more than confident in queer roles. In 2015, Criss strapped on Neil Patrick Harris stilettos for the Broadway musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch. In addition to spitting on the audience, the role required Criss to make out with a random man during every performance.
This week, Criss appeared on Conan and openly discussed his intense same-sex makeout sessions. βKiss is a very polite term,” he explained. “Iβd put my head [in] their mouth. Basically β¦ Iβd molest ticket-paying audience members.

βFor the most part, people are familiar with the show; itβs a very rambunctious sort of crew. Itβs got a large following, and people know what theyβre getting into for the most part when they come see the show.”

He continued, βOne night I remember going for this one dude β¦ I basically roughed him up quite a bit; he had make-up on him all up in everywhere.
βAfterwards he came backstage and was a good sport about it. On the way out, me being pleased with myself for giving a rollicking good time to a conservative young man, a couple goes to me, βdo you know who that was? Thatβs our favorite gay porn star!β.”

In recent years, Hedwig has experienced a revival. It won a Tony Award in 2014, and John Cameron Mitchell, the original Hedwig, earned a special award for his commitment to theater.
