Why None of the Candidates Deserve the LGBT Vote

0

As a 20-year-old gay man in college, I grew up in possibly the most LGBT-friendly time in American history. Despite this progressive era, the LGBT community has more obstacles to overcome to gain true equality. A few weeks before I wrote this, I saw a post claiming Hillary Clinton was our “hero.” This claim is inaccurate; she’s supported by the Saudi regime and only recently changed her view on same-sex marriage. Yet, LGBTs eagerly jumped on the Hillary bandwagon. Why do we buy into candidates without fully understanding their policies? It’s dangerous.

Though same-sex marriage is an important issue, its mass attention left many LGBT issues in the dark, and allowed candidates to talk about a single issue to win the gay vote. The candidates remain silent about highly important issues, and it’s up to us to shift our support to those who support changing an oppressive system.

For LGBT youth, poverty and homelessness is increasing; of all homeless youth, 20 percent are members of the LGBT community. Considering only 10 percent of youth in the United States is LGBT, that number is staggering. When politicians talk about our community, they never bring up homelessness and it has to change.

Transgender people are often left out of the discussion, and are rarely mentioned in politics. Yet, trans folks must overcome overwhelming obstacles just to legally change their gender, while countries like Germany have a non-binary gender option. Why aren’t American politicians tackling trans issues? Instead, they debate as to whether a trans woman should be allowed to use the women’s restroom.

In addition, LGBTs are often harassed by police in and out of incarceration, and the system targets trans people of color like Ky Peterson — a black trans man imprisoned for killing his rapist. According the Federal Bureau of Prisons, over 59 percent of incarcerated trans people report sexual abuse in prison, compared to just 4 percent of cisgender inmates. But, still the candidates don’t talk about these issues. In the judicial system, LGBTs are far from equal.

You might not know who to support when popular candidates fail to address your needs. There are third parties that fight for the LGBT community. For example, libertarians have supported equal rights to marriage, adoption, immigration, and self-determination of all individuals since their founding in 1971. But, they fail to gain wide support. Queer people must fight systemic abuse and push the candidates to fight beyond same-sex marriage before it’s too late.

Calm down. It’s an optical illusion; that’s her arm. But you have to admit, it looks a lot like a giant schlong resting peacefully on her upper arm.

This Catholic Church Sign Says It All

0

According to St. Columbia-Brigid Roman Catholic Church in Buffalo, New York “Jesus had two dads and he turned out just fine.”

While the implication of this expression is associated with homosexually, Reverend Roy T. Herberger, who posted the sign, says he didn’t mean it that way. So why would he post this message? Google told him to — duh.

Reverend Herberger said, “I just Googled ‘funny church signs.'” Apparently, he did this before Googling “Learn To Give a Sermon,” or “How Many Hail Mary’s….” We kid. But seriously, what was he expecting? Unbeknownst to the pastor, after posting the sign, parishioners and passersby were appalled and began posting photos to their social media in disgust. An expression encouraging acceptance? How dare they!

One man was so overcome with the holy spirit outrage, he took to his blog on Catholic Family News to discuss. “The sign was so scandalous I had a hard time believing it was not photo-shopped. This morning I drove to the church to see for myself. With great sadness I report it is true.” he said.

As if this sign is really what’s wrong with the Catholic Church. Regardless, the Diocese of Buffalo stepped up to offer an explanation after phone calls flooded the office calling the signage “blasphemous” and “heretical.”

The administration released the following statement:

“The pastor of SS. Columba-Brigid Parish told me that the ‘2 Dads’ were meant to refer to a child who has both a father and stepfather. There are several children in his parish who have both a father and stepfather. However, given the potential for the meaning of this message to be misunderstood.”

The sign has since been taken down. Hopefully this frees up the Diocese to focus on the accounts of pedophilia that plague the church.

Another new Adele song? Already? We aren’t emotionally prepared! In an interview with 60 Minutes Australia, Adele debuted a preview of “When We Were Young,” the second song of her third studio album titled 25, which comes out November 20.

While we haven’t recovered from the release of “Hello,” we certainly aren’t complaining about the amount of Adele that’s sure to take over the radio soon.

In the clip below, the singer opened up about her fears, fans, and phenomenal voice. In the end, is overwhelming clear — The Brit is back.

Little Boy Stars in a Barbie Commercial

0

The new Moschino Barbie is flying off shelves; it’s sold out in stores. And, the commercial for Moschino Barbie is revolutionary — it features a little boy who plays with Barbie.

In the beginning of the commercial, three kids play with Moschino Barbie, and each says something they love about the doll. When the camera pans to the little boy, he says “Moschino Barbie is so fierce!”

This glamorous Barbie is breaking records and gender norms. At the end of the video, Barbie’s cell rings, and the boys says, “It’s for you, Moschino Barbie.”

Traditionally, boys who played with Barbie’s are teased over their toy preferences. The commercial below is a push in the right direction. When a little boy stars in a Barbie commercial, you know it’s going to fierce and she is!
