Clearly, Gus Kenworthy is a fan of public nudity. The 24-year-old Olympian spent his weekend skinny dipping in the beautiful Alpine waters of Colorado. Kenworthy posted an action shot of himself diving naked into a gorgeous lake, and apparently the water was chilly because “shrinkage ensued.”

In a Q&A with OUT magazine, Kenworthy admitted to being a bit of an exhibitionist saying, “[The photos] got a lot of comments and likes and everything, but I ended up not winning the laptop, so it was kind of all for nothing. But I guess sometimes it’s fun to be an exhibitionist. Otherwise I don’t think I really am. I mean I definitely see profiles on Instagram all the time, guys that I think are hot, whatever, and it’s just shirtless selfies. And I’m not complaining about it, but I don’t want that to be my social channel, and I mean I do it here and there, but I don’t want to be gratuitous.”

He also provided advice to other gay men who don’t feel confident or comfortable with their bodies. “I think it all kind of comes from within, and being comfortable with your body and your sexuality, with everything comes with time and comes with a sense of yourself. I feel like people get ashamed of their bodies, and I think it’s hard, especially because on Instagram where you see people who have the most ridiculously ripped physiques and crazy, crazy bodies. I think people also have to remember that Instagram and stuff like that isn’t real. It isn’t their real self, and it’s the projection that they want people to have of themselves. But even those super hot guys that you see can maybe make people feel insecure, and I feel like those people are also insecure about so many things. I would just encourage people to feel comfortable with themselves, regardless of what their body looks like, or any of that stuff. The social stuff is so easy to get caught up with — it’s so superficial,” he added.

Gus Kenworthy Talks About Sochi and His Boyfriend

As an Olympic athlete in Sochi for the Winter Games, Gus Kenworthy thought about coming out. But, obviously, he refrained from doing so until a couple of weeks ago. After officially coming out in an interview with ESPNKenworthy told the Associated Press why he waited to come out as gay.

“That would’ve been an amazing way to come out. [But] I felt like I was already being so courageous with my body and my actions and the things I was doing in order to try to win and be the best. Then, I was being such a coward in this other way, where I wouldn’t let anyone know. So they were battling each other. I’m excited where those two things can go hand in hand.”

Kenworthy added that if he had come out and publicly embraced his sexuality, it would have made a statement.

“The idea of kissing my boyfriend at the bottom of my run would’ve been, in addition to me coming out, a silent (screw) you to the anti-gay legislature in place in Russia.”

As you know, Openly gay Olympian Gus Kenworthy came out this week and the Internet couldn’t be more obsessed. If you haven’t followed the 24-year-old silver medalist on Instagram, you should do that now. And, in case you missed it, Kenworthy came out in an interview with ESPN, and then followed up with an online announcement via Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

Like many, Kenworthy struggled with coming out. He worried how his family, friends and fans would react to the news. “For most of my life, I’ve been afraid to embrace that truth about myself. Recently though, I’ve gotten to the point where the pain of holding onto the lie is greater than the fear of letting go, and I’m very proud to finally be letting my guard down.”

“I never got to be proud of what I did
in Sochi because I felt so horrible about what I didn’t do,” Kenworthy says. “I didn’t want to come out as the silver medalist from Sochi. I wanted to come out as the best freeskier in the world.”

According to the interview, Kenworthy spent the last five years coming out. “I was insecure and ashamed. Unless you’re gay, being gay has never been looked at as being cool. And I wanted to be cool.” He said. In response to interviewers always asking about his girlfriend, he said, “That’s actually something I want so bad — a TV boyfriend.”
