Stars Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Antonia Gentry, and Brianne Howey share what makes the Netflix series so emotionally real.
Following the jaw-dropping Ginny & Georgia Season 2 finale—where Georgia is arrested for murder at her own wedding—Netflix’s favorite mother-daughter duo is back and more complicated than ever.
Luckily, we caught up with the cast to chat about all things mental health, identity, and the secrets behind the fan-favorite series.
Darker, Deeper Stories
Felix Mallard, who plays Ginny’s ex-boyfriend Marcus , doesn’t shy away from the heavy material this season. “You want your character to be in a bit of strife,” he said. “You want them to be going through something so you can go somewhere and hopefully your character can grow and change.”
Mallard hopes that by showing a young man’s emotional journey, the show can help others open up. “We don’t see too much of that vulnerability shown on screen. And to be able to highlight that and hopefully be an advocate for people to try and help themselves and give themselves the tools to deal with emotions that might feel like they’re on top of you, that’s always the goal, and that’s a really big responsibility that I hope resonates with people.”
*Sigh* Listen, we are Maxine supporters around here. The outgoing best friend of Ginny (and Marcus’ twin) has become an icon in the queer community. Sara Waisglass says playing Max has meant everything—and hearing from fans only makes it more rewarding. “I think my favorite thing about playing Max is that being part of the queer community is a huge part of her identity, and it doesn’t really define her in a way. It’s not a coming out story. ‘I am who I am, I’m proud and I’m happy.’ So I love that.
“And I get a lot of messages from little girls saying, you made me feel comfortable to be myself. And that is, if I can do that for one person that feels like I’ve done something incredible for the rest of my life and I can die a happy woman.”
And when it comes to the haters? “Hey, they’re still watching.”
Georgia’s choices have always been complicated, but this season digs deeper than ever. “Every character is going through their own mental health crisis,” Brianne Howey said. “And it looks very different on everyone.”
Howey shared that the production team works closely with Mental Health America to ensure respectful representation. “I love that the show is starting conversations surrounding generational trauma and breaking some of these cycles.”
I’m telling you, everyone on this show needs therapy. But honestly? We could all use a little therapy, ya know?
For Antonia Gentry, Ginny’s constant balancing act—between childhood and adulthood, Black and white, honesty and survival—is what makes the character so compelling. “She’s also very much experiencing such a wide range of life moments that are very, very challenging,” Gentry said. “She turns into a new person by the end.”
Oh no… what could that mean? You will just have to tune in to find out.
As she began her speech, Coolidge acknowledged the presence of LGBTQ+ students in the audience.“I’m excited that I’m speaking with some very excited gay students,” she said, pausing as the crowd erupted in cheers. She added with a smile, “And some less excited hetero students.”The lighthearted remark set a tone of inclusivity and warmth for the ceremony.
Sharing Personal Stories and Life Lessons
Coolidge recounted a childhood experience during a first-grade field day, where she participated in an obstacle course and, feeling elated after winning, was disqualified for skipping some obstacles. She used this story to illustrate the importance of setting high expectations and remaining resilient in the face of challenges.“I decided then to have insane expectations and believe they’re going to come true,” she shared.
Later, Coolidge revealed that the obstacle course story was a metaphor for life’s journey.“It doesn’t really matter what anyone thinks or says. When it comes to the obstacle course of your life, you have to find your own path,” she advised the graduates.
A Longstanding Ally to the LGBTQ+ Community
Coolidge’s support for the LGBTQ+ community is well-documented.In a 2023 GLAAD Media Awards speech, she humorously remarked, “Here I am again, surrounded by gays. It’s the story of my life.”She went on to express her gratitude, stating, “I want to give back, you know. I believe we all have the right to be who we are and to love the people that we love and tell our stories and celebrate that in every way that we can.”
At the same event, Coolidge was honored with GLAAD’s Special Recognition Award, presented by her longtime friend and co-star Jane Lynch.Lynch praised Coolidge, saying, “This wonderful woman here was pro-gay before it was cool to be pro-gay.”She added, “She is one of us, ladies and gentlemen. And I have always said that the world has to catch up to Jennifer Coolidge – and the world has caught up to Jennifer Coolidge!”
Embracing the LGBTQ+ Community
Coolidge’s connection with her LGBTQ+ fans is evident in her public statements. At the opening night party Tristan Schukraft’s new queer resort, Tryst Puerto Vallarta, Coolidge expressed her admiration for the LGBTQ+ community. She described them as a “superior group of people” who are unselfconscious, original, and know how to have a good time.
Jennifer Coolidge’s commencement address at Emerson College was a testament to her enduring support for the LGBTQ+ community and her commitment to inspiring others.Through personal stories and heartfelt messages, she encouraged graduates to embrace their unique paths and remain true to themselves. Her presence at the ceremony underscored the importance of inclusivity and the celebration of diverse identities in all aspects of life.
The 2025 Met Gala, held Monday, May 5, at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, ushered in a striking new era of red carpet style with the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” For the first time in more than two decades, menswear and tailoring took center stage at fashion’s most-watched event — and queer artists and celebrities did not disappoint.
Celebrating Black sartorial heritage and gender-fluid fashion, the evening’s dress code, “Tailored for You,” encouraged guests to bring their full selves to the red carpet — and many queer stars responded with show-stopping, subversive, and unapologetically personal statements through clothing.
Here are some of the standout queer looks from the evening:

Josh O’Connor and Paul Mescal are stepping into a moving queer love story in The History of Sound, and new stills from the film are already sending fans into a frenzy.
Released exclusively by Vanity Fair, the newly revealed images show the two acclaimed actors fully immersed in their roles. One shot captures Mescal floating peacefully in a pool while O’Connor lounges nearby, cigarette in hand. Another features the duo sharing laughter beside a piano—offering a glimpse into the quiet intimacy that defines their on-screen romance.
Directed by Living filmmaker Oliver Hermanus, The History of Sound is a tender period piece set in post-World War I America. The film follows David (O’Connor) and Lionel (Mescal), two young men who fall in love while studying at a New England music conservatory. Their shared passion for sound and storytelling takes them on a journey to document the voices, songs, and oral histories of soldiers who served during the Great War.
The film is based on the acclaimed short story of the same name by Ben Shattuck, which won the 2019 Pushcart Prize and was a finalist for the 2020 PEN/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers. Its cinematic adaptation will premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and is already generating early awards buzz.
A Queer Love Story Rooted in Connection
In the story, the two leads first meet in a piano bar, where Lionel (Mescal) is captivated by David (O’Connor) performing a folk song from his childhood. From that moment, a deeply emotional—and at times tragic—relationship begins to unfold.
Director Oliver Hermanus, who is openly gay, emphasized that this project is deeply personal.
“I’m a gay man. I would love to go to the movies and watch a movie about a same-sex relationship that maybe makes me cry, but feels fulfilling,” Hermanus told Vanity Fair. “So much of queer cinema—and I’ve made queer cinema like this—is about the struggles. For me, this has always been about wanting it to be accessible to everyone.”
Rather than focus on external pressures or trauma, The History of Sound seeks to portray a queer relationship as deeply human and universally resonant.
“We’re not going to make a movie about the problematizing of their relationship or their sexuality,” Hermanus explained. “It’s about love, loss, companionship—and that’s something everyone can relate to.”
Paul Mescal and Josh O’Connor Reunite with Emotionally Complex Roles
Both Mescal and O’Connor are no strangers to emotionally rich performances. Mescal earned critical acclaim for his roles in All of Us Strangers and Aftersun, while O’Connor is best known for The Crown, Challengers, and his BAFTA-winning role in God’s Own Country.
In this new film, Mescal described his character’s emotional depth as the story’s core.
“It definitely has romantic gestures in it,” he said. “But it is fundamentally about Lionel’s life. There is a kind of real sense of companionship, and the joy and loss that comes with the presence and absence of that. It’s not just about sex and the intensity of falling in love. It’s deeper than that.”
Their chemistry on screen is expected to be a highlight of the film, which promises to explore the emotional complexities of queer love without sensationalism or stereotype.
A Period Drama for a Modern Queer Audience
What sets The History of Sound apart from many historical queer dramas is its intention to move away from narratives of secrecy and repression. While the story includes moments of sorrow and struggle, the filmmakers have emphasized that its heart is about connection and the human need to preserve memory.
“The idea of sound, of memory, of history—those are powerful things,” Hermanus said. “These characters are trying to hold on to something ephemeral, and in doing so, they fall in love.”
The film also stars Molly Price, Raphael Sbarge, Hadley Robinson, Emma Canning, Briana Middleton, Gary Raymond, Alison Bartlett, and Michael Schantz in supporting roles.
With lush cinematography, a poignant storyline, and two of today’s most celebrated actors in leading roles, The History of Sound is already poised to become a standout in 2025’s film landscape.
Representation That Resonates
The History of Sound arrives at a time when calls for more authentic, joyful, and emotionally complex queer representation in cinema are louder than ever. For many LGBTQ+ viewers, seeing a story like this—free from shame or apology—is more than entertainment; it’s affirmation.
From its world premiere at Cannes to its inevitable critical and cultural impact, The History of Sound promises to be a landmark in queer cinema—honoring love, memory, and the music that ties us all together.
Florence Pugh is pushing back against the fashion-focused expectations placed on actresses in Hollywood, saying the industry often conflates acting with modeling — and unfairly so.
In a candid new cover story for Who What Wear, the Oscar-nominated actress from “Thunderbolts” opened up about the evolving demands placed on performers, particularly the pressure to look and present like runway models. The Marvel star, who has become one of Hollywood’s most compelling young stars, says the industry’s fixation on physical appearance — especially on red carpets and in photo shoots — distracts from what actors are actually hired to do: act.

“It’s so sh*t,” Pugh told Who What Wear. “It’s not the same thing. It’s not the same thing at all. I had this conversation recently with a friend.… It’s just mental that red carpets are even an expectancy of someone that is not…. That’s not even their job.… They don’t model.”
Pugh, 29, went on to emphasize the emotional depth and vulnerability required in acting — a skillset she believes is being overshadowed by image-based expectations.
“They are good at being on a camera that is this close with that face, and they know how to show how raw their soul is on the flick of a switch,” she said. “That’s their talent. Their talent isn’t anything beyond that. I mean, it might be, but that’s what they’re getting paid to do, and that’s what we recognize them for.”

The Oppenheimer star said it’s unfair that actors are often compared to professional models, particularly on red carpets. “You’re supposed to be able to be like a runway model, and you’re compared against runway models,” she said. “That’s not our job.”
A Growing Burden in Modern Hollywood
Pugh’s comments come amid a broader conversation about how social media, fashion, and celebrity culture intersect in today’s entertainment industry. Increasingly, actors are judged not only by their performances, but by their Instagram presence, red carpet looks, and how well they photograph. This has led to growing concerns that talent is being overlooked in favor of appearance — especially for women in the business.
Reports in recent years have highlighted how casting decisions can be swayed by an actor’s social media following or visual appeal, even for roles that have little to do with glamour. Pugh acknowledged these shifting dynamics, noting that the expectations for actors have drastically changed over the past decade.
Learning to Navigate the Spotlight
While Pugh has become a red carpet regular and a muse for several high-profile designers — including Valentino and Harris Reed — she admits the process hasn’t always been comfortable. When asked whether modeling feels like stepping into a character, the actress was quick to reject the comparison.
“It’s so exposing because it’s you being beautiful, which is like everybody’s inner hell,” she said. Unlike acting, where she can inhabit someone else’s skin, modeling puts her personal identity and appearance front and center.
That vulnerability has taught her to advocate for herself, especially when it comes to styling. “Once you do, you know, shoot after shoot after shoot, you get better, and you get more confidence,” she explained. “You see the pictures, and you see the work, and you’re like, ‘Okay, that looks great. I’m going to now make sure that I know how to argue when a certain piece of clothing isn’t working.’”
Pugh said learning how to stand up for herself on set and during shoots has been a gradual process — one that came with experience and self-awareness.
Grounded in Her Craft
Despite her growing fashion credentials, including head-turning appearances at the Venice Film Festival, Met Gala, and most recently London Fashion Week, Pugh remains focused on her primary role: storytelling. With critically acclaimed performances in films like Lady Macbeth, Midsommar, Don’t Worry Darling, Oppenheimer, and Dune: Part Two, she has established herself as a serious and versatile actress.
But even with such a strong resume, she said the pressure to be aesthetically perfect never quite goes away.
“If I’m disappointed about how something turned out or looked or if someone’s saying something nasty about the dress that I was wearing or if I was a bit too heavy for the dress or a bit too this or that or whatever sh*t someone wanted to say to me,” she said, “I have to be like, ‘Babe, this is not even why you’re…. This is not your job.’”
A Message for the Next Generation
Pugh’s words reflect a growing movement among actresses and public figures who are calling for a reevaluation of how women are perceived and judged in entertainment. In recent years, stars like Jennifer Lawrence, Zendaya, and Emma Stone have also pushed back on body-shaming and image-based commentary, advocating instead for a return to valuing the craft of acting.
For Pugh, it’s about drawing a clear boundary between performing and being perceived.
“I’m here to do my job,” she said. “And that job is not modeling.”
As Hollywood continues to wrestle with issues of representation, body image, and the conflation of fame with beauty, voices like Pugh’s are helping to reshape the conversation — one honest interview at a time.
Jon Gries, best known for his role as the scheming Greg Hunt (aka “Gary”) in HBO’s The White Lotus, is turning heads in a way fans didn’t see coming. At 67, the veteran actor has stripped down — literally — for a vibrant and cheeky new fashion campaign by Jacquemus, and let’s just say… he’s giving “daddy” in a way that even Tanya McQuoid might appreciate.
The French label, known for its surrealist flair and viral runway moments, tapped Gries for a campaign that feels like a crossover between high fashion and a quirky daydream. In the photos, Gries is seen shirtless, banana-print boxers peeking out from under his low-rise jeans, topped with a Jacquemus jacket and a bold sunhat. He’s serving laid-back louche meets European vacation dad — and it works.
In another image, he’s seen golfing in loungewear, nibbling on an actual banana, or lounging while fully suited. It’s an unexpected, joyful twist on masculinity, and Gries leans into the moment with a confidence and charm that reminds us: aging is not the enemy — especially not in fashion.
While Greg Hunt may not have officially come out on The White Lotus, queer fans of the show have long speculated about his sexuality — and his motivations. In season two, his relationship with the flamboyant Quentin (played by Tom Hollander) raised more than a few eyebrows. By season three, Greg is reportedly dating a young model named Chloe (played by Charlotte Le Bon) while engaging in voyeuristic fantasies involving other men.
Is Greg queer? The show doesn’t give us a straight answer (no pun intended), but Jon Gries has acknowledged that Greg is complex and morally gray. “He has no interest in having friendships,” Gries said in a previous interview. “Everything was on a contract basis with him. He wants control.”
Queer-coded villain? Repressed bisexual? Emotionally unavailable straight man? Whatever Greg is, he’s messy — and we love that for him.
And while Gries isn’t explicitly discussing sexuality in this campaign, the visual language is deeply queer. Banana motifs? A little skin? Gender play with clothing and presentation? Check, check, and check. In fact, the shoot feels like a wink to queer fans who’ve had their eye on Greg (or at least his motives) since season one.
Jacquemus Knows the Gays Are Watching
Jacquemus, founded by Simon Porte Jacquemus in 2009, has long drawn inspiration from queer culture and art. The label blends high fashion with humor, minimalism with excess, and classic French silhouettes with Mediterranean warmth. Think: camp meets couture. Past campaigns have included same-sex couples, sensuality across the gender spectrum, and a healthy dose of absurdity — so casting Jon Gries? Inspired.
According to Jacquemus’ official brand description, the label “references a French way of life and universal gestures of beauty: from fine art photography to the decorative arts, cinema, painting, and sculpture.” The Gries campaign adds a dose of generational appeal and an “older man chic” energy that’s often missing from mainstream fashion campaigns.
It’s refreshing to see a brand so openly embrace an unconventional muse, especially one who defies the usual standards of youth, abs, and influencer clout. Gries may not be the first person who comes to mind when you think of high fashion — but maybe that’s the point.
Greg Is the Only Constant in ‘The White Lotus’ Universe
Gries remains the only actor to appear in all three seasons of The White Lotus, and his character’s evolution (or, arguably, unraveling) has become one of the show’s juiciest subplots. His first-season arc saw him fall into a whirlwind romance with Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge, in her Emmy-winning role). Season two pulled back the curtain to reveal something far more sinister — and possibly queer — beneath the surface.
Season three, which premieres later this year, promises even more twists. Rumor has it Greg is dating a model and exploring a cuckolding kink that involves watching her with other men. Honestly? That’s growth — in a very White Lotus kind of way.
Queer Aging, Reframed
Gries’ campaign arrives at a time when conversations around aging — particularly in queer and fashion spaces — are becoming more visible. There’s often a toxic emphasis on youth in both industries, but campaigns like this one help shift the narrative. You don’t have to be 25 with a six-pack to be sexy, stylish, or subversive.
In fact, Gries’ presence in the campaign challenges outdated standards of desirability. He’s not the punchline — he’s the look. And that, especially for queer audiences who are used to seeing older men erased or mocked, feels radical.
Whether or not Greg Hunt is gay, and whether or not Jon Gries is on your fashion radar, one thing is clear: the man knows how to serve a look. And in the world of Jacquemus, that’s more than enough.
In the words of Tanya McQuoid: “You’re not just a pretty face… but you’re definitely not boring.”
Pedro Pascal just celebrated his 50th birthday, and leave it to him to throw a party that breaks the internet and warms queer hearts everywhere.
The Last of Us and Mandalorian star turned heads this weekend with a birthday look that was anything but subtle — and absolutely perfect. In a now-viral photo posted to his Instagram Story, Pascal rocked a “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt and a “House of Dijon” hat while sitting next to none other than trans icon and Grammy-winning DJ Honey Dijon. Yes, the Pedro Pascal + Honey Dijon crossover is real — and queer Twitter is still recovering.
If you’re wondering, the phrase “Protect the Dolls” is more than just a slogan — it’s a statement of support for trans women. Designed by fashion designer Conner Ives, the shirt quickly became a symbol of solidarity, with proceeds benefiting Trans Lifeline. The phrase “the dolls” has been embraced in trans communities as a term of empowerment and sisterhood.
Pedro Pascal and Lux Pascal dancing at his birthday party
This isn’t the first time Pascal has shown up for the trans community. He’s long been vocal about trans rights, especially in support of his sister, Lux Pascal, a proud trans actress and activist. Earlier this year, he posted an Instagram photo featuring a sticker that read “A world without trans people has never existed and never will,” and followed it up with a scathing takedown of bigotry in the comments. In short: Pedro Pascal stays booked, busy, and boldly pro-trans.
As for the birthday bash, it looked like a blast. In other clips circulating online, Pascal was seen dancing to Crystal Waters’ ’90s house anthem “She’s Homeless” — because, of course, the soundtrack had to be queer-coded excellence. And yes, his BFF Sarah Paulson made an appearance, because what’s a celebration without a little chaotic bestie energy?
In short: Protect the dolls? Always. Celebrate Pedro? Absolutely.
The highly anticipated Masters of the Universe film has made its first major splash at CinemaCon, debuting exclusive behind-the-scenes footage that’s already generating a wave of excitement among fans. While there was some initial skepticism when the live-action adaptation was first announced, the buzz surrounding the movie is now beginning to shift in a more positive direction.
Starring Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Masters of the Universe has faced its share of doubts. From the moment the project was revealed, fans of the original 1980s cartoon were concerned about how the beloved characters would be brought to life on screen. Early set photos did little to quell these worries, but the new footage shown at CinemaCon 2025 has offered a refreshing new perspective.
Behind the Scenes: A Glimpse of What’s to Come
At CinemaCon, director Travis Knight unveiled a sizzle reel packed with footage from the ongoing production of Masters of the Universe. While the footage has yet to be released online, reactions from those in attendance have been overwhelmingly positive. According to early reports, the sizzle reel focused on the authenticity of the adaptation, aiming for a balance between visual accuracy and practicality in the live-action format.
One standout aspect of the footage, noted by DiscussingFilm, is the emphasis on creating a realistic, grounded portrayal of the fantasy world of Eternia, without venturing into the realm of the absurd. The film appears to stay true to the aesthetic of the original toy line and animated series, while bringing a modern, cinematic flair to the universe.
The Hollywood Reporter offered a glimpse into the intense preparation of the cast, particularly Galitzine. Describing the actor’s rigorous training regimen, the publication highlighted his work with swordplay and weightlifting, skills necessary for the physical demands of playing He-Man. The footage also showcased Galitzine in full costume, fueling further excitement among fans eager to see how the actor embodies the iconic role.
OH MY GOD. Masters of the Universe looks HEAVENLY. He-Man fans are going to eat this up. #CinemaCon
Social media reactions have been abuzz with excitement after the footage was shared, signaling a shift in sentiment toward the film. Early skepticism, which was prevalent following the announcement of the project, appears to be giving way to growing optimism. Attendees at CinemaCon were particularly impressed with the high level of detail in the costumes and the production design, which many noted were highly faithful to the original series.
“I can’t believe how spot on the costumes are,” one attendee shared on Twitter. “The sword, the sets, everything looks just like the cartoon — it’s amazing.”
We just got a first look at the ‘MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE’ movie and to say we’re wowed is an understatement. The costumes and set pieces all look incredibly faithful to the toys and the production design is top notch. Travis Night seems to have cracked the code. #CinemaConpic.twitter.com/j0XnYUdt1u
— One Take @ CinemaCon 🎬 (@OneTakeNews) April 3, 2025
The visuals were praised for their bold, vibrant colors and larger-than-life set pieces, echoing the cartoon’s signature style. Many fans took to social media to express how the production design reminded them of the fantastical world they had cherished as children. “The sword is perfect. The sets are breathtaking. Eternia is HUGE,” another tweet raved.
Some fans have even speculated that the film might become a massive box office hit, with one tweet asking, “Who said $1 billion box office for Masters of the Universe?” While it’s still early to predict the film’s financial success, the enthusiasm surrounding the footage certainly indicates that the movie has the potential to attract a wide audience.
A Faithful Adaptation, and the Return to Eternia
One of the most striking aspects of the footage shared at CinemaCon was its focus on staying faithful to the source material. As previously mentioned, the design of the costumes, the sets, and the characters themselves closely mirror those from the original animated series and toy line, providing fans with a sense of nostalgia.
In addition to Galitzine’s He-Man, other characters from the Masters of the Universe universe will be making appearances. The footage also teased glimpses of He-Man’s iconic sword, his battle armor, and the world of Eternia, which is being brought to life with a level of detail rarely seen in live-action adaptations of animated properties.
In an interview at the event, director Travis Knight shared his vision for the film, emphasizing the importance of staying true to the heart of the Masters of the Universe franchise while making it accessible for modern audiences. “We want to bring the world of He-Man to life in a way that honors the past but also feels fresh and exciting,” Knight said. “This isn’t just a nostalgia trip — it’s a whole new adventure.”
Knight also addressed the challenges of adapting a property that’s so ingrained in pop culture. “It’s a delicate balance,” he explained. “The challenge is to respect the material that people love, but also make sure the story resonates with today’s audience. I think we’ve found that sweet spot.”
Nicholas Galitzine Takes Center Stage
The casting of Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man has been one of the most discussed elements of the film since its announcement. Known for his roles in The Craft: Legacy and Purple Hearts, Galitzine is stepping into a role that has long been associated with muscular, larger-than-life characters.
However, early set photos revealed a noticeable transformation in the actor’s physique, leading to speculation that Galitzine had been hitting the gym in preparation for the role. Recent photos from a GQ Germany photoshoot, showcasing the actor’s impressive new look, have only fueled the excitement among his fans. The transformation has garnered significant attention on social media, with many commenting on how the actor has embraced the physicality of the character.
“Has Nicholas Galitzine gone from twink to twunk?” one Twitter user jokingly asked. Regardless of how he’s categorized, there’s no doubt that Galitzine’s portrayal of He-Man will be a major draw for fans when the film hits theaters.

For now, fans are eagerly awaiting the next update, hoping for more glimpses of the world of Eternia and the cast that will bring it to life on the big screen. As the countdown to the release continues, one thing is for certain: Masters of the Universe is shaping up to be a spectacle worth watching.
Friendship is at the heart of Lil Nas X and Camila Cabello’s newly forged connection, which blossomed during their collaboration on the 2024 track “He Knows.” In a new cover story for Paper magazine, Lil Nas X, the 25-year-old Grammy-winning artist, opened up about the meaningful partnership with Cabello and how their collaboration helped him regain his confidence at a difficult time in his life.
The rapper and singer, known for his chart-topping hits like “Industry Baby” and “Old Town Road,” discussed how working with Cabello, 28, served as a source of inspiration and emotional support. He described the experience as more than just a professional collaboration, emphasizing how the two artists uplifted each other both creatively and personally.
“We did a great job at uplifting each other and showing each other how we view the situation and how we view each other from outside of ourselves,” said Lil Nas X. He went on to express how deeply impactful it was to receive validation from someone whose work he admires. “Once you make up your mind: ‘Oh, the world doesn’t see me as something great or feels like I’ve done anything amazing.’ To hear affirmation from somebody who you greatly respect, and you love what they’ve done, it feels great, especially because you can feel like it comes from a genuine place, and not like someone trying to get something from you.”
Lil Nas X and Cabello, who previously collaborated on “He Knows,” a playful anthem about rivalry and relationships, are seen in the song’s music video engaging in a dramatic altercation where Lil Nas X pulls out Cabello’s hair at a nightclub. The duo fights over a man, with their confrontation escalating into a theatrical showdown. Yet beyond the tension seen on screen, their real-life friendship has been a grounding and positive force for both stars.
Lil Nas X continued to describe his time spent with Cabello as a refreshing break from the pressures of fame, calling their moments together “fun” and “genuine.” The collaboration occurred at a time when Lil Nas X was in the process of easing back into social spaces after facing personal challenges. The two spent time together at the 2024 Met Gala and multiple after-parties, during which Lil Nas X found comfort in Cabello’s company.
“It was just genuine fun,” he recalled. “It didn’t feel like work.” He went on to share how Cabello’s support made him feel more at ease, saying, “She made me feel so good. She made me feel so great. And that was the beginning of me getting my confidence back.” For Lil Nas X, the connection with Cabello marked a pivotal turning point in his personal growth. “To finally be at this place, where I’m like, ‘Okay, I know who the f— I am. I know where I’m going. I don’t care what none of these bitches say. I didn’t care at first. Why do I care now?’”
In his recent music, Lil Nas X has continued to explore themes of confidence and self-empowerment. In March 2025, he released his latest single, “Hotbox,” which quickly gained attention. Alongside the track, he dropped an EP titled Days Before Dreamboy, featuring several promotional songs that showcase a lighter, more carefree side of his artistry.
Reflecting on why “Hotbox” felt like the right choice for his latest major release, Lil Nas X told Paper, “‘Hotbox’ seemed light. It didn’t seem like me trying to prove something to my haters.” This sentiment marks a departure from his earlier tracks, which at times carried an edge of defiance. Lil Nas X explained how, for a period, he was consumed with the desire to retaliate against his critics, but he realized that this was not the energy he wanted to put into his music anymore. “For a minute I was like, ‘I want to get back at my detractors for how they made me feel,’” he said. “I was like, ‘No bitch. I want to make a bubbly, fun song.’”
The playful, upbeat nature of “Hotbox” reflects Lil Nas X’s evolving mindset, especially as the world faces heightened tensions. “I know a lot of people are very scared in the world right now, about all the s— that’s happening, especially in our own country,” he said. “S— is happening so fast. I don’t want to think about it. And I don’t mean that in the sense of being dismissive, but I’m just so f—ing tired of being tired of this s—.”
The artist emphasized the importance of providing an escape from the heaviness of the world, even if just for a few minutes. “If this song could even for three minutes make somebody forget what’s going on and feel some oblivious joy, then so be it,” Lil Nas X added, showcasing his focus on positivity and bringing lightness to his fans during a time when many feel overwhelmed.
Throughout his career, Lil Nas X has remained an outspoken advocate for individuality, self-expression, and LGBTQ+ visibility in the entertainment industry. His personal growth and confidence are mirrored in his music, which continues to serve as both a reflection of his journey and a beacon for his fans. As he works with talented artists like Camila Cabello and releases new, joyful tracks like “Hotbox,” Lil Nas X is showing the world that it’s possible to thrive and embrace one’s true self, even amid challenges and criticism.
For Lil Nas X, this new chapter is about standing in his power and embracing both his artistic voice and personal identity with pride. His collaboration with Cabello and his music are a testament to how, through friendship, mutual support, and creative expression, anyone can regain their confidence and keep pushing forward.
Fans and critics alike will no doubt continue to watch with excitement as Lil Nas X grows and evolves both professionally and personally. His unapologetic authenticity is not only redefining what it means to be a star in today’s music landscape but also setting a powerful example of self-love, resilience, and the importance of surrounding oneself with positive influences.
More than a month after her viral moment sent waves through both sapphic and straight communities, Kelly Clarkson is finally addressing the wink that sent fans into a frenzy. The singer-turned-talk-show host has been receiving endless attention for a playful moment during her performance of The Outfield’s “Your Love” on The Kelly Clarkson Show—a moment that has continued to stir social media, leaving many questioning their own feelings.
In the February Kellyoke segment, Clarkson delivered a sultry rendition of the 1980s hit, singing the lyrics, “You know I like my girls a little bit older,” and following it with a flirty wink. The viral clip quickly took over TikTok, sparking a wave of reactions from fans. For many, the wink was just as captivating as the performance itself, and it became a moment that kept social media buzzing.
On Wednesday’s episode of The Kelly Clarkson Show, comedian and guest Whitney Cummings stepped in as the temporary host and took the opportunity to grill Clarkson about the viral moment. “Do you know that your cover of ‘Your Love’ has broken the internet?” Cummings asked, referring to the reaction from women who were left weak in the knees by Clarkson’s rendition.
Clarkson confessed she first learned of the viral sensation from the show’s musical director, who informed her that the clip had “blown up.” But Cummings was quick to point out just how impactful the performance had been: “Blew up? No, no women are leaving their husbands,” she joked, prompting laughter from the live studio audience.
The focus soon shifted to the wink. Clarkson, addressing the cause of the frenzy, casually acknowledged, “So I heard it’s because of the wink,” before giving Cummings another playful wink, which led to a hilarious response from the comedian.
“Don’t wink at me, Kelly! She just winked at me. I’m not strong enough!” Cummings exclaimed, adding some comic relief to the moment. She then took it a step further, explaining the viral sensation to the audience. “She winks at the camera like a home-wrecker!” Cummings joked, adding even more heat to the already sizzling moment.
Clarkson, ever the professional, gave a candid explanation for her wink, admitting she started adding them into her performances to “be cute and playful with the audience.” Over time, the winks became a signature part of her stage presence. “So now I incorporate like a wink here and there. But I happened to do it on a line that — it was on purpose. It was cute,” Clarkson said, explaining that it was simply meant to add a bit of charm to her performance.
Despite the light-hearted nature of the conversation, Clarkson also acknowledged the deeper impact of her viral moment. Reflecting on the line she sang, she said, “It was a cute line, and if I was a lesbian, I would shoot for an older woman, I’m just saying.” The comment sent ripples through the crowd, and LGBTQ+ fans were quick to react, seeing the remark as a playful nod that many interpreted as offering some hope for sapphic women everywhere.
The moment between Clarkson and Cummings brought some humor and insight to the viral sensation, providing fans with a behind-the-scenes look at what turned out to be an unintended but widely celebrated flirtatious gesture. Fans who had been fixated on the performance and the wink for weeks now had some clarity, with Clarkson herself admitting it was all in good fun.
Since the release of the performance, the TikTok video has continued to be shared, remixed, and commented on, with reactions pouring in from both men and women. Some fans admitted they were left questioning their own preferences after seeing Clarkson’s playful moment, while others embraced the fun and flirtatious energy she brought to the stage.
While the viral clip may have left many fans reeling, Clarkson’s explanation only added to the allure of her charismatic and playful persona. It’s clear that the performance was far from just another segment on The Kelly Clarkson Show. For many, it was a defining moment that solidified Clarkson’s status as a beloved figure in the entertainment world, particularly among LGBTQ+ audiences who were captivated by her carefree attitude and unabashed charm.
As for the future, fans can expect more Kellyoke performances to include those signature winks, but this time, they’ll likely be watching just a little more closely. Clarkson’s wink may have started as a playful gesture, but its viral impact shows how a simple moment of fun can resonate with an audience, spark conversation, and even change perceptions.
For those who haven’t yet seen the iconic performance, it’s not too late to check it out. Just be prepared: after watching it, you may find yourself questioning your own feelings, just like so many others have. As Clarkson herself put it, “It was cute.” And sometimes, a little bit of cute can go a long way.
