  • Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Conan Gray Dance the Night Away at Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball

Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Conan Gray Dance the Night Away at Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball

Lady Gaga’s Mayhem Ball lived up to its name Sunday night, and the energy wasn’t just coming from the stage. A viral clip from her Los Angeles stop at the Kia Forum on July 28 shows pop besties Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan, and Conan Gray living their absolute best lives during a performance of “Born This Way”—dancing, shouting lyrics, and clearly having, well, a ball.

The trio, all queer icons in their own right, were spotted in the crowd vibing out with euphoric abandon as Gaga belted her LGBTQ+ anthem. Fans online couldn’t get enough, with many commenting that this crossover of alt-pop royalty felt like witnessing the future of music partying with the queen of the movement.

    Gaga’s Trans-Inclusive Statement

While the crowd served up major energy, Gaga gave it right back with a high-camp, high-fashion spectacle only she could deliver. One of her standout looks during “Abracadabra” and “Judas” included a ruby-red ruffled gown, classic Gaga. But it was the added pink, white, and blue sash that caught attention, a sparkling nod to the trans pride flag and Gaga’s enduring support for the LGBTQ+ community.

Though fans speculated about a giant trans pride cape making an appearance, some of the photos floating online appear to be fan edits rather than the actual tour look. Still, the intention and visual symbolism were clear, and very Gaga.

    Even Nancy Pelosi Couldn’t Resist

Turns out Gaga’s Mayhem Ball has bi-partisan appeal. Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi was in the audience at the tour’s San Francisco stop the night before, calling the concert “the most fun I’ve had in a long time.” Pelosi, attending with her husband Paul, reportedly danced the entire night and delighted fans with her unexpected appearance.

This wasn’t Pelosi’s first Gaga encounter either, she previously attended Gaga’s 2021 performance with Tony Bennett at Radio City Music Hall, proving once again that Gaga’s reach spans generations, party lines, and pop eras.

A Night for the Queer Pop History Books

With theatrical visuals, explosive choreography, and a setlist that spans from new tracks off Mayhem to eternal bangers like “Poker Face,” “Shallow,” and of course, “Born This Way,” Gaga’s tour is not just a concert, it’s a celebration. And with Olivia, Chappell, and Conan adding Gen Z glitter to the moment, it’s clear that Gaga’s influence continues to ripple through pop’s brightest stars.

If the viral footage from the L.A. show is any indication, The Mayhem Ball isn’t just a concert series, it’s a safe space, a runway, and a dance floor for queer joy in all its forms.

  • Conan Gray’s ‘Vodka Cranberry’ Is a Queer Heartbreak Anthem Wrapped in Cinematic Romance

Conan Gray’s ‘Vodka Cranberry’ Is a Queer Heartbreak Anthem Wrapped in Cinematic Romance

Conan Gray is serving heartbreak with a splash of queer longing in his brand-new single, “Vodka Cranberry.”

Released today via Republic Records and Universal Music Canada, the track marks the second single from his upcoming album Wishbone, out August 15. Teaming up once again with acclaimed producer Dan Nigro, Gray crafts a delicate and devastating portrait of love lost, with vocals that drip with sorrow and songwriting sharp enough to cut glass.

“Vodka Cranberry” isn’t just a song, it’s a slow burn of emotion that builds until it bursts, capturing the ache of a breakup that refuses to fully break.

A Love Story Told in Film Grain

The song’s emotional weight is amplified by a cinematic music video that continues the story introduced in “This Song.” Directed by Danica Kleinknecht (Mk.gee) and shot on Kodak 35mm film in Gray’s home state of Texas, the video co-stars Girl Meets World actor Corey Fogelmanis in a quietly powerful queer romance.

Gray plays one-half of a couple, Wilson and Brandon, embarking on a road trip across the American Southwest. From gas station snack runs to playful lake swims and intimate tent cuddles, the video paints a dreamy, Brokeback Mountain-esque picture of two boys in love beneath endless skies.

But as the trip unfolds, the tension simmers. In a dimly lit dive bar, Conan’s character reaches for his partner’s hand, only to be met with silence and retreat. The music swells as we watch a montage of their happiest moments together, including a tender kiss in the lake. Then, in a gut-punch of a twist, the video flashes forward. As Gray’s character sleeps, his lover quietly slips away, eyes full of regret and tears. The keys jingle, the door opens, and just like that, he’s gone.

    Fans Are Feeling It…Hard

Conan’s fans wasted no time flooding social media with emotional reactions.

“album of the year already…” one user posted on X.

Another wrote, “this mv completely destroyed me. i love you conan gray.”

Many praised the video’s authenticity, emotional resonance, and commitment to telling queer stories with tenderness and truth. And yes, a few admitted they’ve already added “Vodka Cranberry” to their “cry in the shower” playlists.

    Wishbone on the Horizon

With Wishbone on the way this August, Gray seems to be leaning even further into cinematic storytelling, emotional vulnerability, and lush queer imagery. If “Vodka Cranberry” is any indication, the full album is shaping up to be both a sonic and visual heartbreaker—in the best way possible.

    A Queer Cinematic Moment

The teaser clip for “Vodka Cranberry” opens like a scene from a coming-of-age indie film. Conan pulls up to a serene lake in a car, gazing longingly at the boy standing in front of it—played by actor Corey Fogelmanis (best known for Ma and the recent queer coming-of-age film I Wish You All The Best).

Then, over a soft string arrangement, Conan’s voice begins a reflective narration:

“Summer was almost over. I was in love with him. More than he knew. More than even I knew. He was standing right in front of me. I missed him already.”

It’s brief, but in classic Conan fashion, the atmosphere is rich with longing, unsaid words, and the aching beauty of youth. Fans are already calling it a queer summer anthem in the making, and it hasn’t even dropped yet.

Part of the Upcoming Wishbone Era

“Vodka Cranberry” is the third track on Wishbone, Conan’s upcoming album, out August 15. The record follows 2024’s Found Heaven and was written largely in secret during stolen moments on tour, between shows, and in quiet spaces that offered reflection.

“It felt like the music was reminding me who I am,” Conan shared in a statement. “At an experimental time in my twenties where ‘who I am’ had no definition at all.”

Teaming up again with producer Dan Nigro (Olivia Rodrigo, Chappell Roan), Gray allowed the album to take shape naturally. “I didn’t know what story I was telling, I was just living in it,” he added.

The 12-track album promises more of Conan’s signature vulnerability and lyrical storytelling, with tracks like “Romeo,” “Nauseous,” and “Connell” already piquing curiosity. If “Vodka Cranberry” is any indication, Wishbone might just be his most personal, and queerest, work yet.

“Vodka Cranberry” Could Be the Queer Song of the Summer

With a title like “Vodka Cranberry,” the single is already channeling the essence of gay bar nostalgia and summer romance. And if the teaser is anything to go by, this will be the kind of song you put on repeat while daydreaming about a crush you only spoke to once at a lake house in July.

Get ready to cry in the club, or by the lake, when the full single drops July 11. And stay tuned for Wishbone, out August 15, which promises even more of Conan Gray’s beautiful, messy, identity-searching magic.
