Rita Ora Sets Fire Island Ablaze With Surprise Pool Party Performance

The Pines just got hotter, thanks to Rita Ora.

The British pop sensation made an unannounced appearance at Fire Island’s Tryst Pool Club on Saturday, July 12, turning an already sun-soaked weekend into a full-blown pop spectacle. In celebration of her latest single “HEAT,” Rita brought fire to the Pines.

Clad in a black leather poolside ensemble that screamed rockstar-meets-beach babe, Ora stunned an unsuspecting crowd as she stepped into the DJ booth with Sakalem. Together, they hyped the crowd with a pulsating remix of “Anywhere” and the high-octane GSP & Jace remix of “HEAT.”

Shots, Vocals, and a Go-Go Box Moment

Rita wasn’t just there to pose for a few photos, she owned the party. She belted out lyrics, danced with fans, and turned the DJ booth into her own pop diva platform. At one point, she poured shots from above and mounted a glittery dancing merman for a moment that was equal parts camp and chaos, in the best way possible.

It was the kind of Fire Island moment that attendees will be talking about for summers to come.

    Drag Royalty and Poolside Shenanigans

As if Rita’s appearance wasn’t legendary enough, the party leveled up when Fire Island drag legends Pixie Aventura, Missleidy Rodriguez, and Bubbles D’Boob took the stage. The trio slayed a performance of Ora’s anthem “DRINKIN’,” with Rita gleefully cheering them on from the sidelines.

Fans got selfies, cheers, and plenty of crowd interaction as Rita made the most of her unexpected visit, embodying the spirit of queer celebration that Fire Island is famous for.

Bringing the “HEAT” to the Pines

The Tryst Pool Club, known for its sexy summer vibes and buzzy events, may have just hosted the party of the season. With “HEAT” echoing through the speakers, drag queens dazzling, and mermen twirling in the pool, Rita Ora reminded everyone that queer nightlife is alive, thriving, and full of joyful surprises.

If this was just a promo stop, we can’t wait to see what she does next.

Tryst’s Poolside Hotties Stole the Show at Fire Island’s Iconic Invasion Afterparty

At this year’s Fire Island Invasion, the real show wasn’t just on the harbor stage, it was at The Tryst Pool Deck, where abs, cocktails, and charisma collided under the summer sun. While drag royalty like Violet Chachki turned it out on the DJ deck, the Tryst team served something even more unforgettable: themselves.

A Post-Invasion Pool Party to Remember

After the last queen sashayed off the ferry and legend Panzi closed the historic harbor ceremony, the crowd flocked to The Tryst for a post-Invasion splashdown. Violet spun a soundtrack of queer liberation, but it was the poolside staff, equal parts boy band fantasy and Greek god, that truly kept the crowd thirsty.

Tryst’s bartenders, each hotter than the last, served up icy drinks with devilish smirks and perfectly timed winks. Glistening in the Fire Island heat, these hunks made ordering a margarita feel like an erotic experience. And just when you thought it couldn’t get better, the go-go dancers hit the pole. Yes, there was a pole. Yes, someone climbed it. Yes, your jaw dropped.

Hotel Upgrade, Same Hot Staff Energy

This wasn’t just a party, it was also a preview of what’s to come for The Tryst Fire Island. Currently undergoing a major refresh, the new Tryst hotel is staying true to its sexy roots while upgrading its offerings. Think sleek rooms, ensuite bathrooms (farewell, shared showers), and design straight from their award-winning Puerto Vallarta location.

And don’t worry—those poolside bombshells aren’t going anywhere.

Staff Glow-Up Behind the Scenes, Too

Tryst is also leveling up how it treats its team, which makes sense considering how much joy they bring to guests. Over $3 million is being poured into upgraded staff housing, complete with air conditioning, WiFi, flat-screen TVs, and shared lounges. So yes, the men serving you that tequila sunrise are not only hot, they’re living well.

The investment also includes upgraded plumbing and infrastructure to support the Pines community at large, showing that this is a party with purpose.

The Real Attraction? The People Who Serve It.

Sure, Fire Island is iconic for its queer history, beach views, and drag theatrics, but let’s be honest, the Tryst team has become a local landmark of its own. Whether you’re here for the beats, the boys, or the buzz, this pool party proves the staff is just as much a part of the experience as the venue itself.

So next summer, when you hear the call of the Invasion, don’t forget to bring your best swimsuit, a camera roll with plenty of storage, and a deep appreciation for the fine art of poolside service.

  • Puerto Vallarta Leads The Charge as One of The Most Visited International Destinations for LGBTQ+ Tourists

Puerto Vallarta Leads The Charge as One of The Most Visited International Destinations for LGBTQ+ Tourists

As summer travel plans heat up, LGBTQ+ Americans are making bold, joyful choices about where they’ll explore next. According to Expedia’s latest LGBTQ+ Edition of the Summer Travel Outlook, queer travelers are booking both tried-and-true favorites and exciting new international destinations. With Puerto Vallarta, Mykonos, and Phuket leading the charge as beach getaways, and lesser-known gems like Gran Canaria, Sardinia, and Alicante gaining traction, the travel season promises a mix of nostalgia and discovery.

    Classic LGBTQ+ Hotspots Still Reign

According to the report, iconic vacation spots remain high on the list. Puerto Vallarta, Key West, and Mykonos continue to draw LGBTQ+ travelers for their long-standing reputations as inclusive, festive, and safe destinations. Notably, Key West ranks as the top beach destination for LGBTQ+ Americans, with one in three respondents planning a visit there this summer. That figure outpaces even international LGBTQ+ staples like Phuket in Thailand and Cape Town in South Africa.

A new hotel even just opened in PV that many have been flocking to since. The Tryst Hotel is a new LGBTQ+ haven for those looking for a vacation.

Lifestyle influencers and husbands Taylor Phillips and Jeff O’Donnell shared their perspective: “Destinations like Key West, Puerto Vallarta, and Provincetown are stunning, spirited, and unapologetically welcoming. What ties them together is that unmistakable ‘come-as-you-are’ vibe that instantly makes you feel celebrated and at home.”

    European Escapes On the Rise

While familiar beach spots are thriving, Expedia’s data shows a surge in interest for European destinations that are gaining popularity within the LGBTQ+ community:

    • Gran Canaria, Spain: +125% YoY search increase

    • Sardinia, Italy: +110% YoY search increase

    • Alicante, Spain: +70% YoY search increase

These data points indicate a growing appetite among American LGBTQ+ travelers for lesser-explored destinations that blend beauty, culture, and inclusive hospitality—especially in Mediterranean Europe.

Domestic City Favorites & LGBTQ+ Friendliness

When it comes to city breaks, Paris, Tokyo, and London remain top international picks, while Los Angeles, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Miami lead the U.S. list for being the most LGBTQ+ welcoming. New Orleans and San Diego are also climbing the ranks, beating out longtime favorites like Fire Island and Provincetown, signaling a shift toward a broader spectrum of domestic travel options.

    Travel Habits and Spending Power

The Expedia survey revealed that LGBTQ+ travelers are among the most active and invested vacationers in the U.S. Some key insights include:

    • LGBTQ+ travelers take at least three trips annually, with an average annual spend of $3,775.

    • Nearly one-third spend over $5,000 annually on travel.

    • West Coast travelers spend the most on average ($4,098), followed by the Northeast ($4,031).

Luxury and comfort are top priorities, with nearly half of respondents preferring 4-star accommodations, and over a third choosing 5-star stays.

Travel Preferences: Chosen Family, Food, and Flexibility

Summer travel plans are as diverse as the community itself:

    • 66% of LGBTQ+ travelers plan to take a beach vacation this summer.

    • 49% are planning a road trip, a more popular option than city breaks or spa stays.

    • LGBTQ+ travelers are just as likely to travel with chosen family as with immediate relatives.

    • 50% plan couples’ getaways, while 20% often travel with their parents.

When it comes to activities, LGBTQ+ travelers are foodies first, with 41% prioritizing restaurants and bars, followed by shopping (36%) and LGBTQ+ nightlife (31%). Sports ranked lowest at 12%, showing a preference for culture and connection over competition.

    Safety and Inclusivity Remain Crucial

Safety is a primary concern, with 39% of LGBTQ+ travelers stating it is a top factor when choosing a destination. More than half rely on word-of-mouth recommendations from within the community to decide where to travel.

Expedia spokesperson Melanie Fish emphasized the importance of inclusion:
“Here’s my number one tip when choosing your destination: check the ‘LGBTQ+ welcoming’ search filter on Expedia to find a hotel that has opted into our Inclusivity Pledge. It ensures a respectful and welcoming experience for all.”

Expedia’s LGBTQ+ Welcoming filter has seen a 155% increase in usage year-over-year, and over 40,000 hotels worldwide have signed on to the Inclusivity Pledge. These properties commit to zero tolerance for hate or discrimination and provide staff training in gender inclusivity, pronoun usage, and queer-friendly recommendations.

    Pride Season Travel

With Pride events ramping up, 60% of LGBTQ+ Americans plan to attend a Pride celebration this year. Three in four will travel outside of their hometown to do so:

    • 47% plan to attend with friends

    • 15% will attend solo

    • 9% are bringing a parent

This reflects how Pride is evolving into not only a celebration but a meaningful opportunity for connection and family inclusion.

Smart Travel Tips for LGBTQ+ Summer Travelers

Expedia has also provided several travel hacks for LGBTQ+ vacationers to save money and avoid crowds:

    • Best Days to Fly (Domestically): August 19 and 25

    • Best Days to Fly (Internationally): August 18 and 23

    • Most Expensive Day: June 27

    • Quietest Days to Travel: August 25 and 26

    To maximize value:

    • Use Price Tracking on the Expedia app for alerts on flight price drops.

    • Enable Price Drop Protection to automatically receive a refund if fares fall after booking.

    • Book through the app to access Flight Deals with savings of at least 20%.

    • Morning flights are less prone to cancellations—depart before 3 p.m. when possible.

Whether you’re headed to a legendary LGBTQ+ beach like Puerto Vallarta, exploring a rising star like Gran Canaria, or discovering queer-friendly cuisine in Tokyo, 2025 is the year to blend nostalgia with adventure.

And no matter where your summer takes you, Expedia’s latest insights show that LGBTQ+ travelers aren’t just planning a vacation—they’re planning experiences full of visibility, joy, and chosen family.

  • Green Qween Opening West Hollywood’s First LGBTQ+ Owned Cannabis Dispensary

Green Qween Opening West Hollywood’s First LGBTQ+ Owned Cannabis Dispensary

West Hollywood is getting a little greener — and a lot queerer.

Green Qween, the beloved LGBTQ+-owned cannabis dispensary brand, is officially opening its third location at 802 San Vicente Boulevard on Friday, May 30th, making history as West Hollywood’s first queer-owned cannabis shop. Located in the heart of the city’s bustling nightlife district, the store brings bold style, community spirit, and high-quality cannabis to a neighborhood built by and for queer pioneers.

The move marks a major milestone for LGBTQ+ representation in the cannabis industry, honoring the movement’s activist roots while paving the way for a more inclusive future.

A Milestone for Cannabis and Queer Culture

We must remember that LGBTQ+ activists created the first medical dispensaries during the AIDS epidemic of the ’80s and ’90s,” said Andrés Rigal, co-founder of Green Qween. “It’s because of queer history that we have this opportunity to make history in West Hollywood and beyond.”

Rigal and fellow co-founder Taylor Bazley partnered with Tristan Schukraft, the owner of iconic queer venues like The Abbey and founder of MISTR, to bring this vision to life in West Hollywood.

“I mean, how was there not a gay-owned dispensary in West Hollywood until now?” said Schukraft. “We had to fix that.”

    Loud, Proud, and Unapologetically Queer

Green Qween isn’t just another cannabis dispensary — it’s a cultural hub. Known for prioritizing LGBTQ+ and POC-owned cannabis brands, Green Qween uplifts local artists, supports nonprofits, and aims to make meaningful change in and for the community.

Green Qween is loud, proud, and unapologetically queer, just like our community,” Schukraft said. “This isn’t just about cannabis — it’s about claiming ownership, honoring our legacy, and making space for ourselves in every corner of culture.”

Step Inside: A Disco Dream Come True

Green Qween West Hollywood is a sensory playground. Designed in collaboration with Visual Elements, the boutique-sized shop features retro flair mixed with sleek postmodern aesthetics in vibrant neo-mint and pink hues. The showstopper? A five-foot disco ball that casts dazzling reflections through floor-to-ceiling windows and onto Santa Monica Boulevard.

Inside, a custom wall of cannabis flower welcomes guests with interactive scent jars, allowing visitors to smell and explore California-grown cultivars. Arched shelving and playful, illuminated signage greet customers with cheeky reminders like “Pass Joints, Not Judgment.”

In short, it’s part dispensary, part disco, all queer.

Art With Heart: A Mural for the Community

Outside the shop, acclaimed artist Patrick Church has painted an original mural titled “Land of My Dreams.” The vivid, expressive piece celebrates connection, humanity, and shared identity — transforming Green Qween’s storefront into a new landmark for public art in West Hollywood.

    A Queer-Owned Brand With Purpose

Founded in Los Angeles, Green Qween is a queer- and POC-led social equity brand with a mission rooted in activism. Inspired by the LGBTQ+ leaders who first championed medical marijuana, the brand is committed to increasing representation in cannabis while creating economic opportunities for marginalized communities.

Beyond its new WeHo flagship, Green Qween also operates stores at 1051 S. Broadway in Downtown L.A. and 13711 Ventura Blvd in Sherman Oaks.

Starting May 31, Green Qween West Hollywood will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 802 San Vicente Blvd.

Meet the Man Behind the Mission

Tristan Schukraft, dubbed “The CEO of Everything Gay,” is more than a nightlife impresario. After launching the airline travel platform ID90.com, he founded MISTR, now the largest telemedicine platform dedicated to HIV prevention and care.

He later expanded into LGBTQ+ hospitality with properties like The Tryst in Puerto Vallarta and Circo Nightclub in Puerto Rico. His recent ventures include The Blue Whale, The Pavilion, and other iconic spots in Fire Island Pines, as well as DS Tequila in Chicago.

With Green Qween, Schukraft continues his mission to build inclusive spaces that serve — and celebrate — the queer community.

‘Canada’s Drag Race’ Winner Venus Packs Glitter and Big Dreams for Life After the Crown

Venus, the newly crowned winner of Canada’s Drag Race Season 4, is still basking in the post-victory glow—but make no mistake, she’s already looking ahead. And yes, that glow is literally enhanced by body glitter.

“I forgot underwear, so maybe that,” Venus quipped when asked what she packed for her trip to Puerto Vallarta. “Sunscreen is always good, I love Maui Babe, and a little glitter. Glitter always. I like to shine.”

Shine, she certainly does. Venus spoke with us during the grand opening of The Tryst in PV, a growing LGBTQ+ hospitality brand she called “inclusive” and “welcoming,” praising it for helping queer people “make more connections around the world.”

One Woman, One Show, Big Plans

Venus may have snatched the crown, but she’s not resting on it.

“Right now, I’m working on my one-woman show,” she revealed. “And I have a very special campaign coming July 1st that involves Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. That’s our first official teaser!”

While she kept the details under wraps, Venus made it clear that she’s stepping into a global spotlight—and loving every second of it.

    Lessons from the Werk Room

Despite the confetti and applause, Venus isn’t looking back. Literally.

“I have not looked back. I don’t want to look back,” she said of her Drag Race experience. “All I know is that I have been leveling up, which is what we want.”

Venus shared that one of her biggest takeaways was learning to stop underestimating herself.

“Once I stopped doing that, I just flew over my own expectations,” she said. “You can’t worry about what might happen—you just have to go for it. Once I did that, I won.”

    Simple? Maybe. But powerful? Absolutely.

    The Power of “Let Them”

As 2025 rolls on, Venus is embracing a new mantra.

“It’s 2025. Let them,” she said, laughing exuberantly. It’s a phrase that doubles as both a boundary and a battle cry—fitting for a queen who’s done playing small.

And as for those dazzling nails that caught our eye?

“Thank you,” Venus said, flashing her fingers with flair. “They’re part of the whole shine.”

With glitter in her bag, a crown on her head, and a fierce solo show in the works, Venus isn’t just riding the wave—she’s making her own tide.

In true Plastique fashion, the queen didn’t hold back her excitement at The Tryst Hotel Puerto Vallarta launch saying. “I’m good. It’s hot, but I’m excited,” she said, grinning as her fiancé filmed her off-camera. With the engagement still fresh, Plastique is basking in the love—and fielding one question over and over again: When’s the wedding? “We’re planning. We’re pitching, but it’s really, really fun,” she shared. “I love being engaged.”

Plastique Tiara’s Wedding Plans: Glamorous, Delicious, and Definitely Not Tropical

While a date hasn’t been set, Plastique has some clear priorities when it comes to her big day. First on the list? Food. Lots of it. And the good kind. “You remember the wedding by the food and the location. Everything else is a blur,” she said. “I’m looking forward to the food—and maybe a destination wedding would be nice.”

When asked to dish more details on a possible destination, Plastique kept things cheeky and mysterious. “You’ll just have to find out,” she teased.

But one thing’s for sure: it won’t be a sweaty beach wedding. “Girl, no, not tropical. I am sweating my ass off,” she joked. “Maybe somewhere with air conditioning.”

Whether she opts for an opulent ballroom or a modern luxe cityscape, fans can expect couture-level wedding fashion, perfectly curated décor, and a guest list that reads like a who’s-who of queer royalty.

While she’s staying tight-lipped about specific details like the wedding date, dress designer, or location, it’s clear Plastique is embracing every moment of this chapter. As someone who built her brand on beauty, elegance, and authenticity, her celebration of love is sure to reflect the same.

And yes—expect a ton of photo ops. This is Plastique Tiara, after all.

    What’s Next for the Bride-to-Be?

While she keeps the details under wraps (for now), we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for sneak peeks—from dress fittings to cake tastings and venue reveals. And knowing Plastique, she’ll drop the info when it’s most aesthetically pleasing.

Until then, we’ll just be over here, dreaming of an invite and mentally preparing for what’s bound to be the most fashionable LGBTQ+ wedding of the year.

  • Laverne Cox Opens Up About ‘Clean Slate’ Cancellation And New Path Forward: ‘I Was Gutted and Devastated’ (Exclusive)

Laverne Cox Opens Up About ‘Clean Slate’ Cancellation And New Path Forward: ‘I Was Gutted and Devastated’ (Exclusive)

Laverne Cox is opening up about the emotional impact of Clean Slate’s cancellation, calling the end of the series “gutting” and a “devastating” loss—not just for her as an actor, but for the fans who embraced the show.

In a candid moment with Gayety at the opening of The Tryst Hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Cox reflected on how she first felt upon hearing the news that Clean Slate, the Freevee comedy starring Cox and George Wallace, would not be moving forward after its first season. Despite the heartbreak, the Emmy-nominated star made it clear that she’s choosing gratitude over regret.

“I was gutted and devastated,” the ‘Orange Is The New Black‘ alum admitted. “But moving forward is the fans—and how we’ve already, with that one season, touched people and made a difference. The love that we gave and put into it, I’ve gotten it back ten times, and I keefep getting it.”

‘Clean Slate’ Promised Representation, Then Vanished

Clean Slate premiered to buzz for its fresh premise: Henry, a conservative Alabama car wash owner, is forced to reconcile with his estranged child Desiree (played by Cox), who returns home as a proud trans woman. The series was praised for tackling themes of identity, family, and generational acceptance with humor and heart.

    Laverne Cox for 'Clean Slate.'
    Laverne Cox for ‘Clean Slate.’

Cox’s casting was hailed as groundbreaking. For many trans viewers, seeing a Black trans woman co-lead a sitcom wasn’t just exciting—it was revolutionary. That’s part of why the cancellation hit so hard.

“Whether it’s one season, six seasons—that relationship between us and the fans is everything,” Cox said. “Thank you to the fans who watched and are continuing to watch and love our show.”

While Freevee and Amazon did not release detailed reasons behind the cancellation, industry insiders cited strategic shifts in programming and viewership data as contributing factors. Still, the sudden end left many questioning what space, if any, streaming platforms are truly making for stories led by and centered on trans characters.

    Beyond the Red Carpet

The end of Clean Slate isn’t the only shift in Cox’s professional life. She also recently stepped away from her high-profile red carpet hosting duties at E!, where she served as a dynamic, stylish, and deeply thoughtful interviewer.

“Deep respect to anyone who works the red carpet,” Cox said. “It was so much work. And I always hold myself to a very high standard.”

Known for her sharp questions, affirming energy, and undeniable fashion presence, Cox made a mark on the carpets. But she also revealed how emotionally and mentally taxing the job could be.

“It was so much work, and it was stressful,” she said. “And I’m an artist. I needed to step away.”

“The ratings were through the roof at E! when we were there,” Cox added. “I’m proud of that. I think we elevated the conversation, and we made the artists feel good and the audience feel good.”

    What’s Next for Laverne Cox?

Even as she steps away from two major platforms, Cox is far from done. Known for blazing trails and setting new standards in both Hollywood and media, she’s made it clear that she’s ready for the next chapter—whatever it may be.

“I just always want to do my best,” she said, thanking Lalwani and fans for their support. “And now—onto the next thing.”

With Clean Slate behind her, the red carpet in the rearview, and a career that’s always evolving, Cox remains a defining voice in trans visibility, intersectional storytelling, and authentic representation in Hollywood.

For fans still mourning Clean Slate, Cox’s message is simple but powerful: the work mattered—and it still does.

Zane Phillips Was Starstruck at First by Nathan Lane While Shooting ‘Mid-Century Modern’ (Exclusive)

Actor Zane Phillips reflected on his time as Mason in Hulu’s new sitcom Mid-Century Modern  and even went on to say how he was at first starstruck by his fellow cast mates.

The series, created by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan—the duo behind Will & Grace—draws inspiration from The Golden Girls, offering a fresh perspective on aging and friendship within the LGBTQ+ community.

    A Star-Studded Ensemble

Set in Palm Springs, Mid-Century Modern follows three gay men—Bunny (Nathan Lane), Jerry (Matt Bomer), and Arthur (Nathan Lee Graham)—who, after an unexpected death, decide to spend their golden years living together. They share a home with Bunny’s mother, Sybil (Linda Lavin), forming a chosen family that navigates the ups and downs of life, love, and friendship.

Sybil helps Arthur get a job as a personal shopper, but his condescending boss reminds Arthur he’s no longer in fashion, he’s in sales. At a casino, Jerry tries to get tickets to a Donny Osmond concert, while Bunny negotiates with a pit boss when he feels he lost money unfairly. (Disney/Chris Haston)

Phillips’ character, Mason, appears in the fifth episode, “Fire Island,” where he meets Jerry during a trip to Fire Island. A Memorable First Day on Set

Speaking to Gayety at the launch of the Tryst Hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Phillips recalls his first day on set, which coincided with election day. He was particularly moved by Linda Lavin’s impromptu piano performance of a song she would later sing in the series. “It was probably the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen in my life,” Phillips shared. The cast and crew were deeply touched by her performance, which added a poignant moment to the filming day.

    Learning from Legends

Working alongside seasoned actors like Nathan Lane and Linda Lavin was both inspiring and humbling for Phillips and one where he was a bit start struck.

“It’s really wacky,” the star went to say. “I was on set and I was looking at Nathan Lane and I was like, “You’re Timon.” It’s probably the first movie I’ve ever seen. And so just being in a room with these legends and they were all so kind and so funny.”

He described the experience as a “master class,” emphasizing the opportunity to learn from their expertise and generosity. “I always want to be surrounded by people who I can learn from and who are kind enough to impart their knowledge and their skills with me,” he said.

    Balancing Gratitude and Professionalism

Despite the star-studded cast, Phillips maintains a grounded perspective on his role. He acknowledges the importance of both luck and hard work in achieving success. “You have to start telling yourself it wasn’t just luck that I’m in this room,” he explained. By focusing on gratitude and professionalism, Phillips ensures that he remains focused on his craft and the opportunities before him.

    Personal Reflections

Beyond his professional achievements, Phillips has been reflecting on the significance of family and personal connections. He expressed deep appreciation for his mother and husband, especially during challenging times. “That’s what I do it for, ultimately. It’s my family,” he said, highlighting the importance of support systems in both personal and professional life.
