Colman Domingo Reflects on Emmy Nomination for ‘The Four Seasons’ While Filming ‘Euphoria’: ‘Maybe It’s a Good Luck Charm’

Colman Domingo added another milestone to his acting career on Tuesday when he earned a 2025 Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The nomination recognizes his role as Danny in Netflix’s hit show The Four Seasons, returning him to the spotlight after his previous Emmy-winning performance in Euphoria.

The 82nd Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced on July 15, and Domingo joined a competitive field that includes Ike Barinholtz for The Studio, Bowen Yang for Saturday Night Live, Harrison Ford and Michael Urie for Shrinking, Jeff Hiller for Somebody Somewhere, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach for The Bear.

For Domingo, the nomination marked a satisfying moment of symmetry and celebration. He accepted the news on the set of Euphoria, where he first made Emmy history by winning Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his powerful portrayal of Ali in Season 2. Reflecting on the coincidence, Domingo told Deadline, “Maybe it’s a good luck charm, being here with my cast from Euphoria.”

Domingo, 55, has been filming the third season of The Four Seasons and remains tight-lipped about plot details, while enthusiastically sharing his excitement for the direction of his character. “We’re creating some epic story, and I’m having a great time,” he said.

The ensemble cast, led by creator and star Tina Fey, includes notable names such as Steve Carell, Will Forte and Kerri Kenney‑Silver. Domingo, who plays the charming and affable Danny, credits his castmates for both inspiration and laughs. “Comedy is very hard,” he said. “Walking into a room with Steve Carell and Tina Fey, they’re like mathematicians when it comes to landing a joke. I was also learning from my castmates.”

Domingo expressed hopes for Season 3 that the writers expand Danny’s storyline, particularly his relationship with his on‑screen husband Claude. “We’ve seen everyone else plan vacations,” he said, “but let’s see the world that Danny likes to populate, and how he moves through the world. I love leaning into the friendship between me and Tina Fey.” He added that he would love to see Steve Carell return to the show. “We became an actual family on set,” he said.

Domingo began his career in theater, acting in Shakespeare and modern plays, and describes the stage as “dusting off 300‑year‑old jokes and being a clown.” For much of his onscreen career, he focused on dramatic roles, making his shift to comedy with The Four Seasons a fulfilling new chapter.

His joy was evident as he spoke about being recognized for his comedic talents. “People who know me believe that I’m funny, but I never got a chance to flex it,” he said. “It felt great to join a comedy show with veterans and learn from them.”

Domingo, also on Variety’s 2025 Comedy Impact List, hosts a podcast named Filthy Preppy Teen$ with co‑host Billy Eichner. The show, which explores pop culture and youth themes with humor and sharp commentary, highlights Domingo’s versatile creative pursuits beyond acting.

In addition to The Four Seasons and Euphoria, Domingo’s screen resume includes critically acclaimed work in films like If Beale Street Could Talk, Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Selma, and the limited series Watchmen. His expansive body of work spans screen, stage and voice acting, establishing him as a dynamic presence in Hollywood.

When asked about how he plans to celebrate his latest Emmy nod, Domingo said he intended to keep things low-key. “I like doing something small. I’ll go to one of my favorite restaurants and take this blessing in,” he said. His humble reaction reflects both gratitude and contentment. “Doing what you love and being recognized for it is icing on the cake,” he added.

Domingo’s journey from theater stages to streaming comedy—and the acclaim that followed—exemplifies the shifting landscape of representation in media. As an openly gay Black man, his visibility and success resonate with audiences seeking more diverse and authentic stories on screen.

His win for Euphoria in 2022 marked a high point, but his current nomination is drawing attention to The Four Seasons as a major comedic contender. The series brings together a diverse ensemble and reflects themes of family, friendship and modern life through humor and heart.

Euphoria returns for Season 3 later this year, but Claudio Domingo and his co-stars are already hard at work on set. The Emmy race continues to generate buzz as other favorites and newcomers emerge in major categories.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards will air live Sept. 14 on CBS and will stream on Paramount+. Fans can expect to see whether Domingo’s nomination turns into another trophy. Meanwhile, audiences around the world continue to enjoy his performances, now in both edge-of-your-seat drama and laugh-out-loud comedy.

‘Las Culturistas’ Culture Awards to Air on Bravo and Peacock This August Celebrating Pop Culture’s Most Iconic and Outrageous Moments

Get ready to scream “Culture!” from the rooftops. The Las Culturistas Culture Awards, hosted by podcast royalty Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers, are headed to television for the first time—airing Tuesday, Aug. 5 on Bravo and streaming the next day on Peacock.

A Cultural Phenomenon Takes the Stage

Originally born from their beloved podcast Las Culturistas, Yang and Rogers’ awards show has become a celebration of pop culture’s most iconic, bizarre, and unforgettable moments. The show, now in its fourth year, isn’t just a niche fan favorite—it’s a full-blown cultural event.

Taped live in Los Angeles on July 17 and produced by Lionsgate Alternative Television, the 2025 ceremony promises over 100 gloriously absurd and oddly specific categories, live musical performances, and a star-studded lineup of presenters and guests. A full list of this year’s categories is still under wraps—but fans can expect the same witty chaos that’s made the podcast a cult hit since its 2016 debut.

Big Names, Big Laughs, Big Culture

In a joint statement, Rogers and Yang poked fun at the lofty definition of culture while perfectly capturing the show’s self-aware spirit:

“The word ‘culture’ is defined as ‘the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively,’” they said. “We are so thrilled to eliminate that whole ‘intellectual’ part entirely with the LCCAs airing on Bravo and Peacock this August… Because while what the world needs now might be love sweet love, it also needs to see an Oscar-winning actress and a Real Housewife come together to present a very heavy award to Oprah, if we can book her. Oprah, u up?!”

From Podcast to Pop Culture Powerhouse

Las Culturistas, known for its hilarious and high-low takes on everything from Tony Awards to TikTok trends, has featured guests like Mariah Carey, Lady Gaga, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Ariana Grande. With its rapid-fire segments, unfiltered opinions, and endless quotables, the podcast has redefined how queer voices celebrate pop culture—and now it’s bringing that chaotic joy to a wider TV audience.

NBCUniversal’s EVP of live events and specials, Jen Neal, called the awards show “vibrant and whimsical,” adding, “Matt and Bowen’s undeniable chemistry, playful humor and love of pop culture’s big and small moments have shaped this spirited award show, redefining what it means to celebrate culture.”

The Las Culturistas Culture Awards will air on Bravo on Tuesday, Aug. 5, and stream on Peacock the following day.

  • Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani Catch our Full Attention in Netflix’s ‘The Four Seasons’ Comedy Series

Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani Catch our Full Attention in Netflix’s ‘The Four Seasons’ Comedy Series

When it comes to vacation photos and videos, most people might feel a twinge of jealousy as they scroll through social media. However, there’s an exception to the rule: we’ll gladly follow along on any trip Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani embark on. And that’s precisely why we’re eagerly anticipating their latest project—The Four Seasons, a star-studded comedy series set to debut on Netflix on May 1.

The new show comes from powerhouse creator Tina Fey, alongside her fellow 30 Rock writer-producers Lang Fisher and Tracey Wigfield. If the title sounds familiar, it’s likely because “The Four Seasons” is also the name of a well-known luxury hotel chain. But the series isn’t just borrowing the name from the famous hotels. It draws inspiration from a 1981 film of the same title, directed by and starring Alan Alda. In the film, a group of married couples vacations together each season, with their seemingly perfect friendships thrown into disarray when one couple faces a looming breakup.

Now, the Netflix adaptation promises to bring a fresh spin to the concept while maintaining the ensemble-driven humor of the original. The series will follow the same premise, but instead of a single film, it will unfold across eight episodes, each centered around a different vacation taken by the group of friends. Each vacation is tied to a specific season—spring, summer, fall, and winter—offering a unique backdrop for the evolving dynamics of the characters’ relationships.

Tina Fey herself stars as Kate, one of the central characters, with her partner Jack played by Will Forte, another SNL and 30 Rock alum. Their on-screen chemistry promises to be a highlight of the series. Fey’s character, Kate, and Forte’s Jack are joined by Steve Carell’s Nick, who is married to Anne, portrayed by Reno 911! star Kerry Kinney-Silver. While the premise involves both light-hearted humor and emotional tension, it also provides an important update to the original movie by introducing a central gay couple.

Two-time Oscar nominee Colman Domingo, known for his stellar work in Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom and Euphoria, plays Danny, one-half of the new gay couple at the heart of the show. His partner, Claude, is played by Marco Calvani, an Italian filmmaker and playwright best known for his stage and screen work. The chemistry between Domingo and Calvani promises to bring a dynamic new element to the series, providing a more inclusive representation of relationships within the comedy genre.

While Calvani may not be as widely known in Hollywood circles—his last on-screen role was over a decade ago in Showtime’s The Borgias—he has since built a successful career as a writer and director. His recent work includes High Tide, a romantic drama released in 2024, starring his real-life husband Marco Pigossi. Fans of both Domingo and Calvani can look forward to seeing them share the screen as an on-screen couple, a pairing that is sure to steal the spotlight with their charm and magnetic presence.

The show’s central premise revolves around four distinct vacations taken by this friend group, with each vacation corresponding to one of the four seasons of the year. The episodic structure allows for more in-depth exploration of each trip, with each season getting two episodes to develop the characters’ evolving storylines. Fans can expect plenty of drama, laughs, and moments of personal growth as the group of friends faces new challenges over the course of their travels.

In true The Four Seasons fashion, the show will likely delve into the personal lives of the characters, with one of the couples experiencing a breakup that threatens to disrupt the group dynamic. The original film depicted one of the married couples falling apart when one partner begins a relationship with someone younger. Although Netflix’s series is keeping tight-lipped about which character will experience this upheaval, some clues may suggest a potential shift in the relationship between Steve Carell’s Nick and Kerry Kinney-Silver’s Anne.

In fact, actress Erika Henningsen, best known for her role in Girls5eva, has been announced as part of the cast but is notably absent from the official show synopsis. This has led fans to speculate that her character may be the one who enters the picture as a romantic interest for one of the straight characters, possibly Nick or Jack. Should this storyline unfold as expected, it would leave the path clear for Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani’s characters, Danny and Claude, to maintain their strong and stable relationship, much to the delight of viewers who are already rooting for the gay couple.

As the show progresses, audiences can expect plenty of lighthearted moments and comedy, but also emotional depth. The changing dynamics among the group of friends will mirror the emotional challenges many experience in real life as relationships evolve, both romantically and platonically. Given the stellar ensemble cast and strong writing team behind The Four Seasons, it’s clear that the series has all the ingredients for success.

The series promises to be a refreshing addition to Netflix’s lineup, combining humor, heart, and diversity in a way that’s sure to resonate with a wide audience. Whether you’re tuning in for the ensemble comedy, the stunning vacation locales, or the compelling character arcs, The Four Seasons offers something for everyone. And with Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani at the forefront of the show, it’s bound to be a hit.

Fans can catch all eight episodes of The Four Seasons when the series premieres on Netflix on May 1. The highly anticipated series is sure to become a conversation starter, offering a perfect blend of comedy, drama, and romance. Prepare for a journey full of laughs, surprises, and plenty of emotional moments as the characters navigate the ups and downs of friendship, love, and life over the course of four unforgettable vacations.

For more updates and behind-the-scenes insights, make sure to follow the series and mark your calendars for its upcoming premiere.
