Disney’s live-action reboot of the 1991 animated classic Beauty and the Beast is a few weeks away. And so far buzz around the film is unprecedented. The movie’s first trailer smashed records and garnered 127.6 million views in its first 24 hours.
The remake includes many of the songs from the original film, but director Bill Condon admits he freshened the storyline. According to Condon, the film features an “exclusively gay moment.”
Earlier this week, the studio released a teaser of Josh Gad’s LeFou singing “Gaston,” and it’s epic. In the scene, LeFou sings about questioning his feelings for Gaston played by Luke Evans. In case you’re curious, Evans, who happens to be gay, fills out Gaston’s trousers flawlessly.

Condon told Attitude magazine, “LeFou is somebody who on one day wants to be Gaston and on another day wants to kiss Gaston.”
He continued, “He’s confused about what he wants. It’s somebody who’s just realizing that he has these feelings. And Josh makes something really subtle and delicious out of it. And that’s what has its payoff at the end, which I don’t want to give away. But it is a nice, exclusively gay moment in a Disney movie.”

Although everyone knows LeFou wants Gaston’s nuts, this is the first time Disney officially included a queer character in a major motion picture.
