Antigay Indiana Representative Resigns After Sex Scandal

0

If you didn’t know, Jud McMillin is the Indiana House Majority Leader and a sponsor of the state’s “religious freedom” law. He’s a well-liked guy, among conservative Hoosiers, and the star of an explicit video.

Yesterday, McMillin resigned suddenly after a text message from McMillin’s phone showed the representative fooling around with a random woman.

The antigay Indiana representative released an official statement and claims the “time is right for me to pass the torch and spend more time with my family.” He could start by spending time with his wife — just a thought.

In response to the video, he said, “My phone was stolen in Canada and out of my control for about 24 hours. I have just been able to reactivate it under my control. Please disregard any messages you received recently. I am truly sorry for anything offensive you may have received.”

On his website, McMillin assures he “will protect the integrity of the institution of marriage. In southeastern Indiana the family has always been the foundation of our strength of community. Our relationships with our wives, husbands, parents, children, siblings and other loved ones provides the glue that binds our common purpose. In these times of turmoil the rest of the country could learn something from our example.”

Maybe he thinks extramarital affairs are part of the “foundation of our strength of community.” Silly man.

Cosmo France Celebrates the Rugby World Cup

0

You don’t have to be a rugby fan to enjoy Cosmo France’s video celebrating the 2015 Rugby World Cup, which is currently going on in England. Their ridiculously steamy one-minute video glorifies the braun and the bods of some of the most beefy men in the world.

The publications video highlights studly rugby players in locker rooms and working it without their gear. For those of you who enjoy the Warwick Rowers or Dieux du Stade calendars, you’ll love this clip. Ok, we’ll be quiet. We would have embedded the video, but for some reason Cosmo’s video player wouldn’t cooperate, click the link below!

Stonewall Historian Reflects on Roland Emmerich’s Film

0

In an interview with The Guardian, one of the most notable Stonewall historians reflected on Roland Emmerich’s Stonewall. Here’s what he had to say:

“I was looking forward to a literal rendition of the excitement of a riot. I constructed that carefully in my book to show the drama, and if they had just stuck to the actual facts, it would have been much more powerful. To me, this was a very lame and inaccurate portrayal.

I liked the character of Ray in the film. But he’s supposed to be based in part on Raymond Castro, who was nothing like that. Ray Castro was a very masculine guy, a generous guy – and very conservative-looking. He wasn’t effeminate – he never went in drag. He didn’t prostitute himself, either.

Ray Castro’s story is he was the one who had the big fight with the police as they were trying to get them inside the police wagon [on the night of the riot]. He was handcuffed in the patrol wagon to a lesbian and he got her a lawyer – he wouldn’t let her pay for the lawyer. What led to his arrest: he had gotten out of the Stonewall Inn after the raid, and then came back to see what was going on and tried to help a friend. If you just kept to the story as it was, it would have added a lot to the script.

The film is also extremely unfair to the Mattachine Society. The Trevor character is mainly based on Craig Rodwell, who was actually the one who first shouted “Gay power!” on the first night [as Danny does in the film]. In Stonewall, he’s seen trying to stop Danny from participating in the uprising. Yet Rodwell was not only an ardent supporter of the uprising, he was the event’s chief propagandist. So the film stands history on its head.

The worst people in the film, besides the open homophobes, are shown to be the [Mattachine] movement before Stonewall. The real-life Frank Kameny [co-founder of the Washington DC branch of the Mattachine Society] was nothing like the Frank in the film. He wouldn’t have told a young man coming out: “You can never be an astronomer.” He never discouraged anyone’s dreams.

The film also put forth some negative portrayals of gays that we had back in the 1960s. The Sister Tooey character is very awful-looking and bizarre. The same thing with the overweight guy in the red dress. The guy who picks him up at the basketball court is sort of weird-looking as well.

And it was very disappointing to me to see the death and funeral of Judy Garland used yet again as part of an explanation for the Stonewall uprising. That has been thoroughly discredited by historical research. And this film is no credit to the history it purports to portray.”

The interview also included the only surviving member of the Stonewall street youth, which you can read on The Guardian.

Stonewall hit theaters on September 25.

Mom Blames Son for Spreading Gayness to Teen Brother

0

In a recent Reddit post, a young gay man named Jason said his mom blames him for ‘spreading gayness’ to his younger brother. According to the post, Jason’s 18 years old and not concerned about himself, but he was worried about how his homophobic mom would treat his 14-year-old brother. Here’s the story:

“My mother is a very complicated woman. She can be really sweet, but fucking batshit crazy at other times. I moved out a long time ago, I’m 27 and I left the house as soon as I turned 18 (also right after coming out). She didn’t disown me, but made a lot of homophobic remarks about me “joining the fags” and denying her grandchildren.

Today, I received a very angry phone call from my mom. I have a younger brother who’s 14 who lives with my parents and my sister. My mom snooped through his phone and apparently found a few texts to his friend confessing that he was gay. Suddenly, I’m responsible for engulfing him with my rainbow wrath when I barely see him.

I have considered trying to get him to move here with me but I don’t think he’d want to leave everything behind. My family would also have a fit.”

Of course, the queer community provided an abundance of support and advice, which inspired Jason to provide an update.

“I read all the comments, each and every single one. However, about an hour after writing the post, I grew impatient and just drove to my parents’ house…My mom lost her shit when I came, said that I was going to make it worse. She’s kept a little quiet though (probably because she realized she can’t do much at this point).
My younger brother is fine…He believes he’s 90% gay. He doesn’t notice girls, but notices guys. He said he’s felt deeper connections with them and is crushing on his friend (basically all the things we all had to deal with when we were young anyway).

I told him about moving in with me and switching schools. I tried to make him understand that he needs to be in a healthier environment and does not need to be taking any shit from my mom. He was very hesitant about leaving his friends, but he’s agreed to move in with me in the next month or so. And for those of you asking if I can afford it, I very much can.

Well damn, didn’t really expect this. Thanks guys. I’m still waiting on the guardianship process to close up, havent received the papers yet but I think it’ll go smooth. He’s staying here for maybe 2 weeks and I’m expecting we’ll be off by then. Thanks for the support!”

Props to Queerty for finding his story!

Listen to Sam Smith’s Epic James Bond Theme

ICYMI, Sam Smith performed the theme to the new James Bond film, Spectre, and it’s awesome. The openly gay singer is apparently very excited about this song.

In response to the song, Smith says:

“I love the song so much… it’s the quickest I’ve ever written a song — it took 20 minutes… and [the Bond producers] loved it! This is one of the highlights of my career.

I am so excited to be a part of this iconic British legacy and join an incredible line up of some of my biggest musical inspirations. I’m so relieved to actually talk about this, this has been a top secret mission of my own.”
