‘The Flash’ Actor Rick Cosnett Came Out on Instagram

“Hi everyone […] um, I’m gay.”

Listen, I like a dramatic coming coming out, complete with choreographed dances and a harrowing tale of inner turmoil as much as the next gay. I still go to Eugene Lee Yang’s stunning video if I’m feeling like a good cry. I feverishly watched all 45+ minutes of Daniel Howell’s coming out video, relating deeply to every painful anecdote.

Then again, something has to be said for the curve ball. The casual, perhaps even incidental kind of coming out, has its place. In a world becoming ever more familiar with LGBTQ folk this seems like exactly the kind of logical, perhaps anticlimactic conclusion.

Actor Rick Cosnett did just that on Thursday. Cosnett, who you may recognize from shows such as The Flash, The Vampire Diaries and Quantico took to Instagram and got right to the point.

“Hi everyone,” says Cosnett. “Dramatic pause. Um, I’m gay”.

He goes on to say that he made a promise to himself to live his truth every day adding that it’s sometimes hard to do when we internalize so much baggage from our childhood and society (ain’t that the truth?).

“I also have a stye on my eye which really adds to the drama of the whole thing,” he concludes. Can relate.

Hello

Not to put too fine a point on it, but there’s something poignant and sweet about a simple coming out. It takes the weight off of something that can be quite difficult for many people. That’s not to say you shouldn’t hire a band and choreographer for your coming out if you so choose — by all means live your fantasy — but this is quite nice too.

Thank you for living your truth, Rick. Also, speaking from experience, a hot compress should take care of that stye in no time.
