“Since I have not publicly said this in a post, I wanted to say that I am bisexual,” Fredericks said. “When I was younger I thought I was straight, because I was more attracted to women, and I didn’t know there were more options besides gay and straight. So I just assumed I was straight. I am privileged and have never been discriminated against for my sexuality or ashamed of it. I’m truly sorry for any of you who have been, and I hope it gets better.”

He ended the post by saying he, unfortunately, knows not everyone will accept his truth. “I’ll probably lose some fans over this post, but that’s fine with me.”
Fans are already flooding the comments showcasing their love and support. “If you lose a fan over this, they were never really a true fan,” a fan commented. “Mad respect for you to be able to speak your truth.” “Any kind of Sawyer is a fantastic Sawyer ❤️????,” another fan chimed in.
Fredericks competed on the show in 2018 when he was 15. He wowed the judges during the season eight auditions while singing Ray LaMontagne’s “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow.” From there, he joined Team Pharrell and ended up winning the show.
