Elliot Page Talks Transformative Gay Bar Experience in New Memoir

Elliot Page released the first chapter of his new memoir, Pageboy, which details his first kiss in a gay bar.

Umbrella Academy star Elliot Page has celebrated every milestone since coming out as trans in 2020. “I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive,” Page wrote in his coming out post.

Since then, Page has found power in posting shirtless thirst traps online, changing his passport photo, playing a trans character on TV (hi, Viktor), and producing a trans-focused documentary. He has shared pieces of his journey with his nearly six million followers on Instagram, but now, he is sharing his full story. It’s called Pageboy.

Elliot Page Shares First Chapter of His New Memoir

“Writing a book has come up a few times over the years, but it never felt right and quite frankly, it didn’t feel possible,” Page wrote in an Instagram post. “I could barely sit still, let alone focus long enough to complete such a task. At last, I can be with myself, in this body. So, I’ve written a book about my story. It’s out next June, and I’m so excited to share its cover with you now.

“Trans people are facing increasing attacks, from physical violence to the banning of healthcare, and our humanity is regularly “debated” in the media. The act of writing, reading, and sharing the multitude of our experiences is an important step in standing up to those who wish to silence and harm us. Books have helped me, saved me even, so I hope this can help someone feel less alone, feel seen, no matter who they are or what path they are on.”

The book will also delve into Page’s relationship with his body, his experiences as one of the most famous trans people in the world, and will cover mental health, assault, love, relationships, sex, and the cesspool that Hollywood can be.

Page recently shared with People the first chapter of his memoir. He tells the story of his first visit to a gay bar called Reflections and how he kissed a woman named Paula.

“Here I was on the precipice. Getting closer to my desires, my dreams, me, without the unbearable weight of the self-disgust I’d carried for so long. But a lot can change in a few months. And in a few months, Juno would premiere.”
