  • Doja Cat Roasts Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle Ad in Viral TikTok

Doja Cat Roasts Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle Ad in Viral TikTok

Doja Cat is back in her trolling era, and this time her target is Sydney Sweeney’s much-discussed American Eagle campaign. The rapper and pop provocateur recently posted a TikTok video poking fun at Sweeney’s commercial, which has come under fire for what some are calling subtle nods to eugenics.

In the now-viral clip, Doja Cat mimics the ad’s script nearly word-for-word, but with a twist. Using a dramatic Southern accent, she recites:
“Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color… my jeans are blue.”

That final word, “blue,” is drawled as “blee,” driving the parody home and prompting viewers to both laugh and cringe in equal measure. Doja even confirmed in the video description that her pronunciation was fully intentional.

The Ad That Sparked It All

In the original American Eagle ad, Sweeney, known for her role on Euphoria, is shown lounging on a couch, buttoning up her jeans while softly delivering the same line. The ad ends with a narrator declaring, “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.”

Another ad in the campaign takes things a step further. Sweeney is seen walking past a billboard that reads “Sydney Sweeney has great genes,” which is then altered to say “jeans.” Critics were quick to point out the not-so-subtle pun and its potentially unsettling implications.

The campaign quickly caught flak online for playing into language associated with eugenics, the outdated and dangerous pseudoscience that falsely claims some people are genetically superior to others. The blowback prompted American Eagle to quietly remove some of the campaign content from its platforms.

    Doja’s TikTok: Satire or Shade?

Doja Cat’s parody, which has racked up over 22 million views and counting, adds fuel to the ongoing backlash. Many fans praised her for lampooning the tone-deaf campaign, while others questioned whether she was the right person to throw stones, given her own history of internet controversies.

Still, the moment reminded fans of the artist’s razor-sharp wit and unpredictable humor. Whether the video is a pure joke, a critique, or a mix of both, it’s clearly resonating.

Neither Sweeney nor American Eagle has publicly responded to Doja Cat’s take.

    The Internet Reacts

Across TikTok, X, and Instagram, fans and critics alike are sounding off. Some are calling Doja’s video the “perfect response” to a misstep in marketing. Others are more skeptical, suggesting her motivations might be less about social commentary and more about stirring the pot.

Regardless of intent, Doja Cat’s parody has become the internet’s latest obsession, and yet another example of how quickly a few words (or blee) can snowball into cultural critique.

  • Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle Campaign Sparks Backlash Over ‘Great Genes’ Tagline

Sydney Sweeney’s American Eagle Campaign Sparks Backlash Over ‘Great Genes’ Tagline

Sydney Sweeney is facing social media backlash after the debut of her new denim campaign with American Eagle, which some critics have accused of invoking racially insensitive messaging.

The fall 2025 campaign, which launched last week, features the Euphoria and White Lotus star posing in American Eagle’s latest denim line. The central tagline? “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans.” But the cheeky pun, playing off “great genes,” hasn’t landed well with everyone.

    The Wordplay That Sparked Controversy

In one clip posted to American Eagle’s Instagram, Sweeney stands in front of a sign reading “Sydney Sweeney has great genes,” with “genes” crossed out and replaced by “jeans.” Another video shows Sweeney explaining, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring, often determining traits like hair color, personality, and even eye color.” The camera then zooms in on her own blue eyes. She finishes with, “My jeans are blue.”

While the wordplay may have been intended as clever and lighthearted, many online users didn’t see it that way. Across TikTok, Threads, and X (formerly Twitter), some commenters accused the brand of leaning into messaging that echoes eugenics or white supremacist ideology, especially in its framing of inherited beauty traits.

Sweeney and American Eagle Stay Silent

As of Tuesday morning, neither American Eagle nor Sweeney has responded publicly to the controversy. A representative for the actress declined to comment, and American Eagle has not issued a statement despite mounting criticism.

Still, the campaign has continued to roll out across AE’s platforms and in stores, with no visible changes.

Behind the Denim: The Sydney Jean

Controversy aside, the campaign is tied to a philanthropic effort. The centerpiece is a limited-edition denim jacket and “The Sydney Jean,” designed in collaboration with Sweeney herself. The jeans feature a butterfly embroidery, meant to symbolize growth, transformation, and domestic violence awareness, a cause close to Sweeney, who has previously spoken about supporting mental health resources.

All proceeds from the jeans will benefit Crisis Text Line, a nonprofit providing 24/7 text-based mental health support.

“Sweeney’s girl-next-door charm and main character energy, paired with her ability to not take herself too seriously, is the hallmark of this bold, playful campaign,” American Eagle wrote in a press release.

    Stock Up, Comments Down

While the comments section has filled with critiques, American Eagle’s stock is experiencing the opposite effect. Since the campaign launched, shares of the company have jumped by 21%, suggesting that the backlash hasn’t hurt business, at least not yet.

    The Internet Remains Divided

On one side, critics are calling for more accountability from the brand and questioning how the messaging made it past multiple rounds of approval. On the other, some fans argue the campaign was meant to be playful and has been misinterpreted.

Regardless of intent, the moment highlights how a single word, especially one with loaded historical implications, can derail even the most fashion-forward marketing efforts.

Whether the brand chooses to respond or let the conversation die down naturally, one thing’s for certain: this campaign is being talked about far beyond the dressing room.

Sydney Sweeney Packs a Punch as Christy Martin in First Look at Biopic

Euphoria and Immaculate star Sydney Sweeney is tackling the life of legendary boxer Christy Martin in a new biopic, Christy, which will make its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) this September. The first official image from the film dropped on July 21, revealing Sweeney in full fight mode—sporting Martin’s signature dark curls, a bruised face, and a jaw-clenching stare that says she’s ready to throw hands.

Known for her iconic blonde locks and glam red carpet style, Sweeney looks almost unrecognizable in the still, decked out in a white tank, red gloves, and tasseled trunks. The actress shared the photo to Instagram with the simple caption: CHRISTY.

    Stepping Into the Ring—Literally

In a June interview with W Magazine, Sweeney revealed she gained over 30 pounds of muscle and trained three times a day for the role. “My body was completely different,” she said. “But it was amazing: I was so strong, like crazy strong.”

Her routine included morning weightlifting, midday kickboxing sessions that lasted two hours, and evening strength training. “I started eating,” Sweeney said, laughing. “A lot.”

    A Story Worth Fighting For

The real Christy Martin rose to fame in the 1990s as one of the first female boxers to sign with Don King and appear on major boxing cards. Her story is one of resilience and victory—an openly gay woman who shattered barriers in boxing and overcame unimaginable adversity. With Christy, Sweeney isn’t just throwing punches; she’s bringing a queer sports icon’s legacy to the screen.

From Euphoria to the Ring—and Back Again

Filming on Christy wrapped earlier this year, just before Sweeney returned to the set of Euphoria for its long-awaited third season. According to HBO’s Casey Bloys, the new season will include a major time jump that finally moves the characters beyond high school.

Christy will premiere at TIFF in September, with a wider release expected later this year.

Actress Sarah Paulson made her runway debut at age 50, walking in Miu Miu’s Fall/Winter 2025 show during Paris Fashion Week. Known for her role in American Horror Story and her high-profile marriage to actress Holland Taylor, Paulson’s appearance on the catwalk surprised many, adding a unique highlight to the final day of Fashion Week.

Paulson wore an off-the-shoulder satin button-up dress that was unbuttoned just enough to reveal a white bra beneath. Completing the look, she wore knee-high socks, a black bucket hat, and green snakeskin high heels.

“I’m obsessed with Mrs. Prada and I’m obsessed with the Miu Miu brand, so it just was like the biggest honor of my life,” Paulson told i_d. She jokingly downplayed the experience, saying, “It’s not a big deal, you guys. It’s totally fine. It was a very relaxing experience. I wasn’t at all nervous… This is a joke.”

Paulson’s runway moment was celebrated by fans and fashion enthusiasts alike, showcasing the versatility of the Emmy-winning actress in yet another creative arena. Paulson’s appearance at the Miu Miu show also highlighted the increasing visibility of queer women in high-profile spaces. Alongside Paulson, musician Towa Bird, who is in a relationship with actress Reneé Rapp, also walked the runway. Bird wore pants, a black-and-white t-shirt, and another black bucket hat.

Paulson and Bird were joined by supermodel Gigi Hadid, actress Nicole Kidman, and Keith Urban’s daughter Sunday Rose, who at just 16 years old, made her runway debut. Other notable models included The Brutalist actress Raffey Cassidy and BlacKkKlansman star Laura Harrier.

The audience for Miu Miu’s show was equally star-studded, with Euphoria actress Sydney Sweeney sitting in the front row. Also in attendance were A$AP Rocky, Alix Earle, Emma Corrin, and Joey King, adding to the celebrity-filled atmosphere.

Paulson’s appearance on the runway was an exciting milestone for both the actress and her fans. With increasing representation of queer stars in mainstream media and fashion, Paulson’s debut offers a glimpse into a future where more LGBTQ+ icons may find their place on the catwalk.

Fans are hopeful that this won’t be Paulson’s last appearance in fashion, as her style and influence continue to inspire both her peers and audiences. The addition of more lesbian representation in the fashion industry is a step forward for visibility, and it’s clear that Paulson’s runway debut was just the beginning.

  • Paul Feig Donates $300,000 to LGBTQ+ Youth Advocacy Groups Amid Rising Anti-Trans Policies

Paul Feig Donates $300,000 to LGBTQ+ Youth Advocacy Groups Amid Rising Anti-Trans Policies

Paul Feig, the director of A Simple Favor and Bridesmaids, along with his wife Laurie, has donated $300,000 to three major LGBTQ+ youth advocacy organizations: The Trevor Project, Trans Lifeline, and It Gets Better. The donation comes at a time when the LGBTQ+ community, especially transgender individuals, is facing increasing threats to their rights and protections.

In an exclusive statement to Variety, Feig expressed his concern over recent attacks on the LGBTQ+ community, particularly transgender people. “In recent weeks we have witnessed the dismantling of crucial protections for the health and safety of the LGBTQ+ community and, particularly, the transgender community,” Feig said. “I can’t sit idly by and watch as my friends, colleagues and the LGBTQ+ community as a whole — our fellow citizens — are stripped of their rights.”

The donation follows reports that the Trump administration is enforcing policies that remove transgender troops from the U.S. military and has eliminated references to transgender people and gender-affirming care from official government websites and databases. LGBTQ+ rights organizations and activists have filed legal challenges to these policies.

The Trevor Project, one of the organizations benefiting from the donation, provides a suicide prevention hotline for LGBTQ+ youth, while Trans Lifeline offers emotional and financial support to transgender individuals in crisis. It Gets Better works to uplift and empower LGBTQ+ youth by amplifying stories of queer adults and providing resources for young people worldwide.

Myles Markham, Director of Development at Trans Lifeline, emphasized the significance of Feig’s donation, especially given the current climate. “In a year where anti-trans sentiment and federal marginalization is at an all-time high, support and generosity for our community from powerful storytellers like Paul couldn’t be more timely or valuable,” Markham said. “Contributions like this not only mean critical services will reach more folks in need, but they also send a message of hope and possibility.”

Kevin Wong, Senior Vice President of Marketing at The Trevor Project, highlighted the urgency of the donation. “Every 45 seconds, at least one LGBTQ+ young person in the U.S. attempts suicide. This gift will bolster our crisis counselors’ ability to support the increase in young people who are reaching out with fears about how the current barrage of negative political news will impact their lives,” Wong said.

It Gets Better’s Executive Director, Brian Wenke, also expressed gratitude, noting that Feig’s contribution would further their mission to support LGBTQ+ youth. “Paul’s storytelling has long resonated with our community, a reminder that representation isn’t just visibility — it’s power,” Wenke said. “With this support, we remain focused on building a world where LGBTQ+ young people feel seen, supported, and can recognize their own limitless potential.”

Feig’s recent contributions come as he prepares for the release of his latest film, Another Simple Favor, which will premiere at the South by Southwest (SXSW) festival in Austin on March 7. The film will be available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video starting May 1. Feig also has another project, The Housemaid, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried, set for release during the holiday season.
