Cooper Koch Earns First Emmy Nomination for ‘Monsters’ Role as Lyle Menendez

Cooper Koch just unwrapped an early birthday gift, and it’s one for the books. The 28-year-old actor, best known for his haunting turn as Lyle Menendez in Netflix’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, has officially received his first Primetime Emmy nomination.

Koch was recognized for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2025 Emmy Awards, marking a major breakthrough in a rising career already marked by buzzworthy performances, and a certain shirtless viral moment that fans won’t soon forget.

A Standout Performance in a Haunting Story

The nine-episode Netflix limited series, part of Ryan Murphy’s Monsters anthology, revisits the infamous 1989 Beverly Hills murders committed by the Menendez brothers, who claimed years of parental abuse in their defense. Koch played Lyle, the elder brother, with unnerving precision and unexpected emotional depth, earning him earlier accolades, including a Golden Globe nomination.

His co-stars Javier Bardem and Chloë Sevigny also received Emmy nods for their supporting roles, while the series itself landed a nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series.

From Screen to Courtroom: A Real-Life Impact

The Emmy buzz arrives on the heels of renewed legal developments in the Menendez case. Just nine months after Monsters debuted, a California judge responded to a resentencing petition by reducing the brothers’ sentences to 50 years to life, making them eligible for parole. The decision followed mounting public interest sparked by the show and a subsequent Netflix documentary.

Lyle and Erik Menendez are expected to appear before the California Parole Board this August. The show’s resonance with viewers and lawmakers alike is a reminder of the power scripted drama can wield beyond entertainment, particularly in revisiting stories of justice and trauma through a modern lens.

    What’s Next for Koch?

While Emmy voters are finally paying attention to Koch’s work, so is the film world. The actor has reportedly joined the cast of Artificial, the next project from celebrated queer director Luca Guadagnino (Call Me By Your Name, Challengers). Deadline reports Koch will appear alongside Andrew Garfield and Yura Borisov in the upcoming film, though plot details remain tightly under wraps.

If Koch continues his current trajectory, balancing prestige TV, festival-circuit cinema, and the occasional cheeky viral moment, he’s set to become a fixture in Hollywood’s next generation of leading men. And now, with an Emmy nomination under his belt, that ascent is officially in motion.

  • Jude Law and Andrew Garfield to Star as Siegfried and Roy in Apple TV+ Series ‘Wild Things’

Jude Law and Andrew Garfield to Star as Siegfried and Roy in Apple TV+ Series ‘Wild Things’

Magic, tigers, Vegas, and a dose of drama—Jude Law and Andrew Garfield are stepping into the spotlight (and the sparkle) as Siegfried and Roy in a new Apple TV+ limited series titled Wild Things.

The upcoming show will chronicle the legendary rise—and dramatic fall—of one of Las Vegas’ most iconic acts. Law will portray Siegfried Fischbacher, while Garfield takes on Roy Horn, his lifelong performing partner. Based on the Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy podcast, the eight-episode series promises to deliver a whirlwind tale of illusion, ambition, and danger.

Behind the Curtain: The Story of Siegfried & Roy

Siegfried Fischbacher and Roy Horn weren’t just magicians—they were a phenomenon. Known for blending exotic animals, big-budget illusions, and high-camp flair, the German-born duo transformed the Las Vegas entertainment landscape beginning in the 1970s.

They met aboard the luxury cruise ship TS Bremen, where Siegfried was performing as a magician and Roy was working as a waiter. According to Roy, their bond began when he smuggled a live cheetah aboard the ship and asked Siegfried, “If you can make a rabbit disappear, how about a cheetah?” The rest, as they say, was showbiz history.

From European cabarets to Monte Carlo royalty, the pair’s act eventually landed in Las Vegas, where they became the faces of The Mirage in a $57 million deal—complete with their own 5,000-seat theater.

    Tragedy on the Stage

On October 3, 2003, during a live performance, tragedy struck when Roy was attacked by a white tiger named Montecore. The incident resulted in a severe neck injury and stroke that ended their stage careers. Remarkably, Horn defended the tiger afterward, claiming Montecore was trying to protect him, not harm him.

Though they briefly reunited for a single performance in 2009, the attack marked the end of an era.

    A Complex Legacy

The new series promises to explore the full spectrum of Siegfried and Roy’s lives—not just the illusions, but also their personal relationship. Though they were romantically involved during the earlier years of their careers, the pair remained close professional partners even after separating.

They ultimately confirmed their relationship publicly in 2007, gracing the cover of the National Enquirer with the headline, “We’re Gay!”

    Farewell to the Tiger Kings

Roy Horn passed away in 2020 due to complications from COVID-19 at age 75. Fischbacher died just months later in 2021 from pancreatic cancer at age 81.

“From the moment we met, I knew Roy and I, together, would change the world,” Fischbacher said in a statement after Horn’s death. “There could be no Siegfried without Roy, and no Roy without Siegfried.”

With Law and Garfield stepping into their glittery shoes, Wild Things aims to bring that iconic—and often misunderstood—story back to life for a new generation.

  • Zane Phillips and Jelani Alladin Star in Queer 1980s Thriller ‘Strangers on a Beach’

Zane Phillips and Jelani Alladin Star in Queer 1980s Thriller ‘Strangers on a Beach’

Get ready for sun, suspense, and steamy secrets. Fire Island star Zane Phillips and Fellow Travelers breakout Jelani Alladin are set to headline Strangers on a Beach, a queer erotic thriller set in 1980s San Francisco, premiering this June at the Big Apple Film Festival.

A Queer Thriller With a Vintage Edge

Set in 1983, Strangers on a Beach follows Calvin, a man trying to survive—and maybe fall in love—in a city where queer desire is being stalked by something far more dangerous. The official logline reads: “It’s 1983 in San Francisco and a mysterious killer is targeting homosexual men. But Calvin just wants to kiss that handsome stranger.”

Written and directed by Michael Schwartz (Snatched), the film draws inspiration from the stylized suspense of David Lynch and Brian De Palma. But unlike the coded queerness of many thrillers from that era, Strangers on a Beach brings queer identity and desire front and center.

    Sexy, Scary, and Unapologetically Queer

In a statement, Schwartz explained the film’s ethos:

“Studio films of that era often reveled in queer subtext. But even between the lines, queerness was frequently coded as danger. That kind of projection carried difficult consequences, as did the concealment of identity. By centering authentically queer voices—all while keeping things scary, sexy, and strange—we set out to challenge the biases of both the characters and the audience who watch them.”

Alongside Phillips and Alladin, the film stars Juliana Aidén Martinez (Griselda), Jack Falahee (How to Get Away With Murder), Nancy Lam (Miss Saigon), and Perry Young (In the Heights).

The film is produced by Andrew Carlberg (Skin) and Nilou Safinya (Julia Blue), marking their third collaboration under Safinya’s Eyes Up Here Productions and Schwartz’s Boat Ashore Productions.

    Rising Stars and Veteran Talent

Alladin, fresh off his acclaimed performance opposite Matt Bomer and Jonathan Bailey in Fellow Travelers, also appeared in Tick, Tick…Boom with Andrew Garfield. Phillips, who rose to fame in Fire Island, recently appeared on the Hulu sitcom Mid-Century Modern.

When he’s not behind the camera, Schwartz also co-created That’s a Gay Ass Live Show, a variety game show that opened the NY Comedy Festival and appeared at Netflix Is a Joke, featuring stars like Bowen Yang, Matt Rogers, and Margaret Cho.

Strangers on a Beach is set to make its world premiere at the Big Apple Film Festival in June—just in time for Pride Month. Don’t miss this thrilling dive into queer danger, desire, and identity, wrapped in the dreamy haze of a bygone era.

Shirtless Andrew Garfield Pics Justify Man of the Year Title

Andrew Garfield is much more than your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man. He’s your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man of the Year. He’s also giving off major leather daddy vibes in this latest shoot from GQ Magazine. Garfield recently secured one of British GQ’s highly coveted Men of the Year slots, along with Jack Harlow and Heartstopper‘s Joe Locke and Kit Connor. To celebrate the announcement, British GQ made Garfield one of the issue’s cover stars. Accompanying the issue is an interview and series of stunning photographs featuring a very shirtless Andrew Garfield in leather pants by Alexander McQueen.

Shitless Andrew Garfield is Simply Sublime

The photography for this cover, taken by the prolific Luke Gilford, is as sublime as Garfield. The 39-year-old is statuesque as he positions himself on the crest of a dune. His hands clasp firmly behind his back as he gazes out into the distance. According to Gilford, they shot all of these photos in an active mining quarry. The evidence of this can be seen in other, less shirtless photos of Andrew Garfield in front of a tangled structure made of twisted metal. He’s dressed in utilitarian-looking clothing like boiler suits and raincoats. The clothes are, of course, anything but. With pieces from Maison Margiela, Gucci, Prada, and Dunhill, they’re not exactly cost-efficient for your average quarry worker.

    Andrew Garfield Bares It All

It wasn’t just his chest that Garfield bares in this issue. The tick, tick… BOOM! actor also opened up about many of the pressures and obstacles he faces as his 40th birthday looms in the distance. Garfield spoke about the loss of his mother to pancreatic cancer in 2019, calling it a very major moment for him. “That cataclysm is a forever-reverberating shift into a deeper awareness of reality,” said Garfield. He described this moment as one that led him to ponder his existence and “the shortness of this window we have.”

All of this and more continue to come into focus for Garfield as he steps into a new decade. With this comes the pressure to have kids. “I always thought I would be the first to have kids and settle down,” said Garfield. Meanwhile, Garfield’s high school friends are “all shacked up and a couple of kids deep, for the most part.” Ultimately, as Garfield notes, life is in charge. Garfield calls it a “perpetual practice of letting shit go. Letting go of an idea of how a thing should look, or be, or feel.”

    No Regrets

In the end, despite not having kids, Garfield explains that he is happy to have no regrets. Particularly when it comes to his mom. “There was no stone left unturned,” said Garfield. “There was nothing left unsaid.” As many of us who are grieving will know, that is a very special thing. Regret or no regret, however, there will always be longing. “It would be so nice to be able to continue to love her in person,” Garfield continues. “The grief is never-ending. The love is never-ending […] That’s the nature of love.”
