Bella Ramsey Reflects on Publicly Coming Out as Non-Binary: ‘It’s Been a Mixed Bag’

Actor Bella Ramsey, widely recognized for their acclaimed role as Ellie in HBO’s The Last of Us, is opening up about the emotional complexity of coming out as non-binary and how life has changed since sharing that part of their identity with the world.

Ramsey, 21, came out publicly in 2023, joining a growing number of public figures who have chosen to speak candidly about their gender identity. In a new interview with The Guardian, published Sunday (April 20), the British actor spoke about the personal and public impact of that announcement, describing it as both liberating and overwhelming. “Part of me looks back and I wish that I didn’t [come out], because I didn’t want it to become a headline and a big thing,” Ramsey said. “And obviously it was going to, and I didn’t really understand that at the time. And I wasn’t really prepared for that.”

Their honesty about the challenges of being a non-binary person in the spotlight shines a light on the pressure celebrities face when their private identities become public narratives. For Ramsey, the journey to visibility came with both positive affirmation and moments of doubt. “But on the other hand, people have said to me that it’s been very helpful for them seeing some representation,” they added. “So it’s been a mixed bag, but overall, I think it was a good thing, just for me living more freely, without feeling like I’m keeping a secret.”

While Ramsey is glad their story has helped others, they also expressed a desire for their gender identity to become less of a central focus in media coverage. “Now I’m like, ‘I’ll talk about it, but I don’t want it to be the focus anymore,’” they explained. “I guess I’m just quite chill with it. And I want everyone else to be as chill with it basically.”

A Voice for Authenticity in Hollywood

Ramsey first rose to fame as the fierce Lady Lyanna Mormont in Game of Thrones before taking on the groundbreaking role of Ellie in The Last of Us, a post-apocalyptic series that quickly became a critical and commercial success. The show, based on the popular video game of the same name, has been widely praised for its LGBTQ+ representation, with Ramsey’s portrayal of a young lesbian survivor earning acclaim from fans and critics alike.

The actor’s openness about their non-binary identity has resonated with audiences, especially young people seeking representation in mainstream media. By using they/them pronouns and embracing their gender fluidity publicly, Ramsey is helping to expand the visibility of non-binary individuals in entertainment — an industry where authentic representation has often lagged behind.

    Navigating Autism in the Spotlight

In addition to speaking about gender identity, Ramsey has also been candid about being diagnosed with autism while filming the first season of The Last of Us. In an earlier interview with Vogue, they described the diagnosis as “freeing,” explaining that it gave them a deeper understanding of themselves. “It allows me to walk through the world with more grace towards myself for not being able to do the easy, everyday tasks that everyone else seems to be able to do,” they shared.

This dual revelation — of being both non-binary and autistic — has made Ramsey a rare and powerful voice in Hollywood, representing a broader spectrum of neurodiversity and gender diversity than is typically visible in film and television.

Their willingness to speak about these aspects of their identity has not only provided comfort and connection to fans but also helped to chip away at longstanding stigmas in the industry and beyond.

First Love and Growing Up in the Public Eye

In March 2025, Ramsey also revealed another personal milestone: they are in love for the first time. Though they chose not to name their partner, the actor shared that this new emotional experience has been both grounding and joyful. “It’s scary and beautiful,” they said during the Vogue interview. “Love opens you up in ways you didn’t know were possible.”

As someone who has grown up in front of the camera, Ramsey’s personal evolution — from child star to global LGBTQ+ and neurodiversity advocate — has unfolded in real time. Their maturity, vulnerability, and self-awareness continue to inspire fans who see themselves reflected in Ramsey’s story.

    The Importance of Representation

For many LGBTQ+ and neurodiverse fans, Ramsey’s candidness serves as a lifeline. While visibility doesn’t solve systemic inequality, it does offer a sense of belonging and validation — something Ramsey is keenly aware of.

Even though the attention surrounding their coming out was, at times, overwhelming, Ramsey recognizes the value of being a visible figure for those who often feel unseen. “People have told me it’s helped them feel like they’re not alone, and that matters to me,” Ramsey said.

Their decision to live openly and authentically — even under the scrutiny of global media — is a testament to the power of representation and resilience. It’s a reminder that celebrities, despite their fame, experience the same vulnerabilities and fears as anyone else when it comes to identity, acceptance, and self-love.

With season two of The Last of Us currently in production and several upcoming film projects on the horizon — including a deeply personal feature centered around eating disorders — Ramsey shows no signs of slowing down.

They are carving out space in the industry not just as a talented performer, but as a person whose presence challenges norms and uplifts others.

As they continue to navigate fame, identity, and adulthood, Ramsey hopes for a future where gender labels are less scrutinized, and people are free to exist as they are — quietly, confidently, and without headlines.

Pedro Pascal, Troye Sivan, and More Rally Behind Viral ‘Protect the Dolls’ T-Shirt Raising $70k and Counting for Trans Rights

What began as a bold runway moment at London Fashion Week has exploded into a full-on cultural movement. Conner Ives, the American-born, London-based fashion designer, has already raised $70,000 — and counting — through pre-sales of his now-iconic “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt. And yes, it hasn’t even shipped yet.

The real kicker? Every cent is going to Trans Lifeline, a non-profit organization that provides peer support, direct aid, and life-saving services for transgender people across the United States.

A Fashion Statement That Speaks Volumes

The tee first turned heads in February when Ives himself wore it during his runway bow at the close of his Fall 2025 show at London Fashion Week. The designer stretched the shirt with both hands as he greeted the crowd, underlining the slogan and its deeper meaning.

The shirt’s message — both literal and symbolic — instantly resonated.

Just a day later, Ives announced via Instagram that the “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt would be available for pre-order, with 100% of proceeds going to Trans Lifeline.

“After the groundswell of support for the ‘Protect the Dolls’ tee, we will be putting the T-shirt up on our website for pre-order,” Ives wrote in a February 25 post. “Resources like this are now more important than ever, given the hostility and oppression the federal government has adapted towards trans people in America.”

He added, “I would not be where I am without the support I have been given by the dolls, so this is the least I could ever do to say thanks.”

Celebrities Are On Board — Loud and Proud

Soon after, a handful of celebrities helped the tee break the internet — in the best way possible.

Pedro Pascal, known for his roles in “The Mandalorian” and “The Last of Us,” wore the shirt while celebrating his 50th birthday with DJ and music producer Honey Dijon. A snap from the celebration made its way online, and the message spread like wildfire.

Then came Troye Sivan, who brought the shirt to one of the world’s biggest stages — literally. While crashing Charli XCX’s Coachella 2025 set to perform their “Talk Talk” remix, Sivan rocked the tee in front of a global audience streaming live on YouTube. Later, he posted a backstage shot on Instagram alongside Lorde and Billie Eilish, who also joined Charli for her surprise-packed set.

And let’s not forget Haider Ackermann, the newly appointed creative director at Tom Ford. The Colombian-born French designer was seen wearing the shirt in a photo with actress Tilda Swinton — a moment that Ives gleefully reshared on his own social accounts.

    From Runway to Reality

The buzz around the shirt hasn’t slowed down. On April 15, Ives reflected on the shirt’s unexpected journey in another Instagram post.

“I never had any idea what this would turn into, what we would be able to do with the printing of a tee,” he wrote. “Couldn’t be more proud of everyone that made this possible — the early adopters (Haider, Pedro, Troye), the stylists that connected the dots (and bought the tees! No press loans here), and the hordes of people that have donated to @translifeline.”

He added that the first round of shipments was going out that week, and thanked fans for their patience.

    Fashion With a Purpose

The shirt has become more than a wardrobe staple — it’s a badge of solidarity and support during a critical time for the trans community.

Trans Lifeline, the nonprofit benefiting from the T-shirt’s sales, is a trans-led organization that provides a crisis hotline, microgrants, and a network of peer support. Their mission is rooted in survival, empowerment, and building a more equitable future for trans people — something Ives clearly aligns with.

The “Protect the Dolls” T-shirt is available for purchase at connerives.com. And if you’re wondering — yes, it’s still flying off the digital shelves.

  • ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2: Isabela Merced Teases ‘Undeniable’ Chemistry and LGBTQ+ Representation

‘The Last of Us’ Season 2: Isabela Merced Teases ‘Undeniable’ Chemistry and LGBTQ+ Representation

As anticipation builds for the second season of HBO’s critically acclaimed series “The Last of Us,” new cast member Isabela Merced, who portrays Dina, is offering insights into the burgeoning relationship between her character and Ellie, played by Bella Ramsey. The series returns to HBO and streams on Max beginning April 13.

In a recent interview with IMDb, Merced spoke candidly about the connection she shares with Ramsey on screen, hinting at a storyline that will resonate deeply with LGBTQ+ viewers. Reflecting on what drew her to the show, Merced expressed admiration for Ellie’s past relationship with Riley, a character portrayed in the first season by Storm Reid.

Looking ahead to season two, Merced emphasized the commitment to authenticity in portraying the bond between Dina and Ellie. “Bella’s extremely charming. Our chemistry is sort of undeniable, and the gays are going to be fed,” Merced told IMDb. “Like, they’re going to be so happy. I love it.”

Merced also shared her enthusiasm after viewing early footage of her scenes with Ramsey. “I’ve been in the editing room when they’re like, ‘Oh, what scenes do you want to watch?’ I was like, ‘All Dina-Ellie scenes only, please. I want to see it all.’ And it was wonderfully edited, edited by a gay woman, Emily [Mendez]. Yeah, they’re just going as authentic as possible, and I really love that.”

The introduction of Dina as a significant character in Ellie’s life has been long-awaited by fans of “The Last of Us” video game franchise, upon which the series is based. In the games, Dina becomes Ellie’s romantic partner, a relationship that is expected to be a key focus of the upcoming season.

A lingering question among some viewers has been the identity of “the Staring Girl,” an unnamed character who briefly appeared in the sixth episode of the first season when Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie arrive in Jackson, Wyo. The character, played by Paolina Van Kleef, was seen intently observing Ellie, leading to fan theories that she might be a younger Dina.

Merced addressed this speculation in a separate interview with Entertainment Weekly. “I did see that,” Merced said, noting the similarity in the character’s outfit to Dina’s. However, she has not yet had the opportunity to confirm this with showrunners Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann.

Based on her understanding of Dina’s personality, Merced expressed some doubt about the “Staring Girl” being her character. “In my opinion, and the Dina that I’ve witnessed and seen, Dina wouldn’t run away. Dina would be like, ‘Who are you?’” Merced explained. “I don’t think she would be scared of Ellie…. I don’t think Dina would run away, scared with her tail between her legs.”

Adding another layer to Ellie’s romantic life in Jackson, the season will also introduce Noah Lamanna as Kat, described as Ellie’s first girlfriend in the community. This suggests that the series may explore different facets of Ellie’s relationships before fully delving into her connection with Dina.

“The Last of Us” season 2 will pick up the narrative five years after the conclusion of the first season. Joel and Ellie are living in the Jackson community, navigating a strained relationship. Their relative peace is shattered by the arrival of a mysterious group led by a soldier named Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).

Merced emphasized that the new season will delve deeper into Dina’s backstory compared to her initial portrayal in “The Last of Us Part II” video game. She also praised Shannon Woodward, who originated the role of Dina in the game, for providing a strong foundation for her performance. “She also gave me a stamp of approval after the premiere, which is freaking awesome, because that’s all I needed to hear as a performer,” Merced said. “It’s amazing, and she didn’t have to do that.”

With Merced’s comments highlighting the “undeniable” chemistry between Dina and Ellie and the commitment to authentic LGBTQ+ representation, “The Last of Us” season 2 is poised to further explore complex character dynamics and resonate with a broad audience when it premieres next week.

  • Pedro Pascal Stuns in Leather on the Red Carpet for ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Premiere

Pedro Pascal Stuns in Leather on the Red Carpet for ‘The Last of Us’ Season 2 Premiere

The premiere of The Last of Us season 2 took place in Los Angeles last night, and Pedro Pascal made a bold statement on the red carpet with his eye-catching fashion choices. The 49-year-old actor, who stars as Joel in the hit HBO series, turned heads in an outfit that combined high fashion with an edgy twist.

Pascal’s ensemble featured thigh-high leather boots worn over leather pants, paired with a plaid blazer and a blue turtleneck. Fashion experts noted that the outfit was head-to-toe Yves Saint Laurent (YSL), with the high-waisted leather pants and boots lending a daring contrast to the more conservative top half of the look. One user on social media compared the outfit’s vibe, saying, “Top half is giving English teacher and bottom half is giving rave in Berlin,” capturing the eclectic blend of styles.

The unusual combination sparked mixed reactions online. While some lauded Pascal for his bold and fashionable choices, others were less impressed, with many questioning the mix of a formal blazer with the statement-making leather boots. “WTF?” was a common reaction across social media, with some fans wishing Pascal had fully committed to the leather look.

Despite the divisive outfit, Pascal is no stranger to making fashion statements. Over the years, he has donned leather and other daring looks for both photoshoots and his roles, proving that he is not afraid to push fashion boundaries. The outfit at last night’s event was just another example of his willingness to take risks on the red carpet.

Pascal was joined by his co-star Bella Ramsay, who also turned heads with their vibrant and unique outfit. Ramsay, who identifies as non-binary and uses they/them pronouns, wore a bold green suit paired with a red tie. On the back of the suit were lyrics from the 1956 song “Enjoy Yourself (It’s Later Than You Think),” famously performed by Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians. Ramsay’s choice to incorporate a vintage element into their outfit was a nod to the timeless nature of fashion, adding a personal touch to the evening’s festivities.

The premiere event marked the return of The Last of Us franchise, which first debuted its critically acclaimed first season in 2023. Based on the popular video game of the same name, the series follows Joel (Pascal), a hardened smuggler tasked with escorting Ellie (Ramsay), a teenage girl with immunity to a fungal infection, across a post-apocalyptic United States. The first season garnered widespread praise for its emotional storytelling, character development, and stunning visuals.

Season 2 of The Last of Us is set five years after the events of the first season, continuing the journey of Joel and Ellie as they navigate a world ravaged by a deadly outbreak. Fans are eagerly anticipating the new season, which will premiere on HBO on April 13, 2025.

With a red carpet full of daring fashion choices and exciting new seasons on the horizon, The Last of Us continues to capture the attention of audiences both on and off the screen. Pascal and Ramsay’s bold fashion statements are just a small part of the buzz surrounding the show’s highly anticipated return.

  • Bella Ramsey’s Revelation: Autism Diagnosis “Freeing,” But Gender Labels Feel “Trapping”

Bella Ramsey’s Revelation: Autism Diagnosis “Freeing,” But Gender Labels Feel “Trapping”

Bella Ramsey, known for their role in The Last of Us, opened up about how their autism diagnosis has brought a sense of relief but also how they feel trapped by gender labels.

In an interview, the 19-year-old actor, who portrays Ellie in the hit HBO series, shared their thoughts on being neurodivergent and how it has shaped their identity. “I’ve spoken a bit about neurodivergence before, but I always, for some reason, didn’t want to. I felt like I didn’t want to say what it was,” Ramsey said, reflecting on their experience. They went on to explain that they were diagnosed with autism while filming the first season of The Last of Us, an experience that was, in many ways, liberating.

“[The diagnosis] was freeing,” Ramsey explained. “It enables me to walk through the world with more grace towards myself about not being able to do the easy everyday tasks that everyone else seems to be able to do.”

The diagnosis, Ramsey said, helped them better understand their own neurodivergent experience. “My experience of moving through the world is as an autistic person,” they added. “There’s no reason for people not to know.”

A post shared by British Vogue (@britishvogue)

While the autism diagnosis provided clarity, Ramsey also spoke candidly about the challenges of navigating gender and sexuality in the public eye. “The label of being autistic has been so helpful to me because that’s helped me to understand myself, but gender and sexuality-wise, labels do not feel comfy for me in any capacity, because I feel like I’m putting myself into a box,” they explained. “I feel trapped.”

The actor expressed frustration about how labels related to gender and sexuality can feel limiting. “It does make me a bit sad that people who aren’t in the public eye can explore their gender identity or sexuality in private,” Ramsey continued. “That’s a privilege I don’t really get anymore.”

As a public figure, Ramsey noted that any exploration of their gender identity or sexuality would likely be done under the scrutiny of the public eye. “If I did want to explore other things, like facets of my gender identity, that would be done publicly,” they said. “As much as I would try and keep it private, if someone recognizes me on the street, say if I’m presenting differently, [and] takes a photo, then that is just talked about.”

Their comments shed light on the unique challenges faced by public figures when it comes to navigating personal identity. While exploring gender identity and sexuality is a personal journey for many, Ramsey highlighted the added layer of visibility that comes with fame and the loss of privacy that often accompanies it.

Ramsey has been an advocate for mental health and neurodiversity, using their platform to bring attention to issues that affect the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent communities. Their openness about their autism diagnosis has resonated with many fans, and their thoughts on gender and sexuality provide insight into the complexities of being a young person in the public eye.

As Ramsey continues to define themselves on their own terms, their journey speaks to the broader conversation around self-discovery and the importance of creating space for people to explore their identities, regardless of societal expectations or public perception.

Vogueing Pedro: Pascal’s Sensational Dancing Rocks AirPods Commercial

Pedro Pascal is giving fans yet another reason to swoon in his latest commercial for Apple’s AirPods 4. The actor, known for his roles in The Last of Us and The Mandalorian, is seen dancing up a storm in the new short film, titled “Someday,” directed by Her filmmaker Spike Jonze.

The quirky commercial follows the story of a man grappling with a breakup who transforms his bleak, Arctic surroundings into a vibrant dreamscape — all thanks to the power of his AirPods’ Active Noise Cancellation feature. While the premise may be unconventional, Pascal’s infectious charm and energy bring the commercial to life, making it an instant hit with viewers.

In the ad, Pascal, 49, isn’t just a handsome face; he shows off some impressive dance moves that have the internet buzzing. Despite not being a classically trained dancer, Pascal worked with Tanisha Scott, a renowned choreographer who has worked with Rihanna and Beyoncé, to perfect his routine. Pascal’s dance style ranges from voguing to full-on lip-syncing, with one memorable moment where he performs to the lyrics, “You’re perfect / Now work it.” The move is bound to make even the most hardened viewer smile — and some, perhaps, blush.

The short film also features the beautiful ballad “Conticinio” by Guitarricadelafuente and the upbeat track “Perfect,” which further elevate Pascal’s performance. The combination of music, dance, and Pascal’s undeniable charisma has captivated audiences worldwide, with many fans and internet users showering the ad with praise.

It’s safe to say the internet is thoroughly entertained and charmed.

It’s not the first time Pascal has left the internet swooning with his dance moves. Fans might remember the time the actor posted an Instagram Story where he channeled a seductive scene from The House of Gucci, dancing to George Michael’s “Faith.”

Additionally, Pascal’s on-screen camaraderie with fellow actors, including Miguel Ángel Silvestre and Paul Mescal, has often sparked playful fan reactions.

For those eagerly awaiting Pascal’s next film, his upcoming project Materialists promises a different kind of charm. In the film, directed by Past Lives director Celine Song, Pascal plays a wealthy millionaire vying for the attention of Lucy, portrayed by Dakota Johnson. He competes with a struggling actor-waiter, played by Chris Evans. However, as one Twitter user aptly pointed out, “I’m supposed to believe in a world where someone would choose Chris Evans over Pedro Pascal? Not in my world.”

Whether he’s dancing, acting, or simply being his charismatic self, Pascal continues to captivate audiences and prove that his talent goes far beyond his leading roles in blockbuster TV series and films. As for now, his viral dance moves are likely to keep him in the spotlight for quite some time.

Pedro Pascal Slams Anti-Trans Bigotry, Calls Policies “Vile” and “Pathetic”

Pedro Pascal has issued a powerful rebuke against anti-transgender bigotry, condemning recent policies aimed at stripping rights from the transgender community as “vile” and “pathetic.”

In an Instagram post over the weekend, the The Last of Us star shared a photo of a message seen on a building that read: “A world without trans people has never existed and never will.” Pascal captioned the image, telling his nearly nine million followers that he would not stand by while transgender individuals are targeted.

“I can’t think of anything more vile and small and pathetic than terrorizing the smallest, most vulnerable community of people who want nothing from you, except the right to exist,” Pascal wrote. The post quickly garnered more than 750,000 likes.

Though Pascal did not directly reference specific policies in his post, his comments align with recent actions taken by the Trump administration, which has rolled out several executive orders restricting rights for transgender and non-binary people. These orders include declaring “only two sexes” as official U.S. policy, banning transgender women and girls from competing in women’s sports, restricting gender-affirming care for trans youth under 19, and prohibiting transgender individuals from serving in the military. Additionally, diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies have been removed from federal agencies.

One of the most controversial changes has been the State Department’s new passport policy, which only recognizes male and female gender markers, based on the sex recorded at birth. This has led to difficulties for many transgender individuals, including Euphoria star Hunter Schafer, who revealed she was issued a passport listing her as “male” despite identifying as a woman.

Pascal, an outspoken ally of the LGBTQ+ community, has been particularly vocal in his support of the transgender community, motivated in part by his sister, actress Lux Pascal, who is transgender. Following his post condemning anti-trans bigotry, Pascal shared a black-and-white photo of his sister posing at the Viña del Mar International Song Festival in Chile, simply captioning it: “Lux.”

Earlier this month, Pascal also posted a video of the late trans activist Cecilia Gentili giving a stirring speech at the New York University Lavender Graduation ceremony for LGBTQ+ college students in May 2023. Gentili’s powerful words urged the audience not to minimize the seriousness of the issues facing the transgender community.

“Do not allow anyone to tell you that this is not a big deal, or that this is just a culture war, or that trans people are overstating the seriousness of what is going on,” Gentili said in the video. “I’ve been a trans person for nearly 50 years… Knowing your identity, who you are, and where you come from is powerful… I think one of the most important things that we can do for young people is to share those stories. Once we know who we are, we cannot be stopped.”

In his caption, Pascal highlighted Gentili’s words, writing: “Know who you are. Progress is inevitable.”

Fans of Pascal have continued to praise him for his unwavering support of the trans community, with many expressing admiration for his advocacy. One fan summed it up succinctly: “Could his flag get any greener?”

When faced with narrow-minded criticism for the episode’s LGBTQ+ themes, Offerman had the perfect clapback: “‘Why did you have to make it a gay story?’ We say, ‘Because you ask questions like that.’”

    More Than Just an Award

Offerman’s portrayal of Bill, a character surviving in a post-zombie apocalypse world, touched hearts far and wide. His love story with Frank, played by Bartlett, isn’t just a narrative about survival; it’s a poignant love tale that resonates with many. This role didn’t just earn Offerman a Spirit Award; it also brought him an Emmy, proving his stellar talent.
