Manchester City’s Kerstin Casparij Honors Trans Rights With Goal Celebration: ‘Some Things Are Bigger Than Football’

Manchester City defender Kerstin Casparij made headlines this weekend not only for her performance on the pitch but for a powerful show of solidarity with the transgender community during Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League match against Everton.

After scoring the opening goal for Manchester City at Joie Stadium, the 24-year-old Dutch international kissed a wristband bearing the colors of the transgender pride flag. The symbolic gesture came just days after a controversial UK Supreme Court ruling declared that the legal definition of a woman under the Equality Act 2010 is based strictly on biological sex — a decision that has been widely condemned by LGBTQ+ advocacy groups and supporters across the country.

Casparij’s celebration sent a clear and defiant message of support for the trans community at a time when many are feeling particularly marginalized. “Sometimes there are bigger, more important things than football,” Casparij wrote in a heartfelt Instagram post following the match. “My goal today was dedicated to all my trans siblings, who’ve had an incredibly tough & heartbreaking week. You have all been on my mind and in my heart. You deserve so much more than what this government & society is giving you.”

The statement, accompanied by a photo of Casparij mid-celebration, quickly gained traction online, earning widespread praise from fans, fellow players, and LGBTQ+ advocates. “I’m so incredibly proud of the trans existence within the queer community,” she continued in the post. “And I’m proud of all trans women — you are women no matter what anyone says.”

A Gesture That Transcended the Game

The moment occurred during a pivotal clash between Manchester City and Everton in the Women’s Super League. Casparij’s early goal helped set the tone for City’s dominant performance, as the team continues its pursuit of the league title. But it was her post-goal tribute that stole the spotlight, reverberating far beyond the confines of the stadium.

Photographs of Casparij’s gesture quickly circulated on social media, with many LGBTQ+ supporters expressing gratitude for the high-profile show of allyship. Comments poured in on her post, calling her “an inspiration” and praising her for using her platform to uplift marginalized voices. “You are an absolute inspiration. Standing up for what you believe in on a public stage. 10/10,” one Instagram user commented. “Incredible player, even more incredible human being using your platform for the greater good,” another wrote.

The trans pride flag wristband, which features light blue, pink, and white stripes, has become a widely recognized symbol of transgender rights and solidarity. Casparij’s decision to wear and kiss the band on a high-profile stage marks one of the most visible recent shows of support for trans people in professional sports, particularly following a ruling that has left many in the community feeling increasingly vulnerable.

    Legal Ruling Sparks National Debate

The Supreme Court ruling that prompted Casparij’s action was handed down last week and has already triggered nationwide protests and condemnation. By declaring that the definition of a woman in the Equality Act 2010 pertains exclusively to biological sex, the court has effectively excluded transgender women from a range of legal protections related to gender identity.

Critics argue the decision represents a significant setback for transgender rights in the United Kingdom and could lead to increased discrimination in employment, healthcare, housing, and public services.

The ruling also raises questions about the application of equality law in settings such as single-sex spaces, sports, and public accommodations, sparking concerns over how trans individuals will be treated under the new interpretation.

Human rights groups, trans activists, and allies across the UK have staged protests, calling on lawmakers to reverse the decision and strengthen legal protections for transgender individuals. Casparij’s public statement and on-field gesture are being seen as part of this broader wave of pushback against what many view as a dangerous and exclusionary precedent.

    A Personal Commitment

Casparij, who has previously spoken about her commitment to equality and social justice, is in a relationship with Ruth Brown and has often used her platform to support LGBTQ+ causes. Her willingness to stand in solidarity with the transgender community — particularly during a time of heightened political tension — has reaffirmed her place as a vocal and compassionate advocate within the sport.

Her message is not just one of support but also of visibility, reminding fans and fellow players alike that the game of football can serve as a platform for inclusion, resistance, and representation.

The Power of Visibility in Sports

In recent years, professional athletes around the world have increasingly used their platforms to speak out on political and social issues, from racial justice to gender equality to LGBTQ+ rights. Casparij’s tribute stands as a powerful example of how visibility in sports can drive awareness and foster community, especially at a time when rights are being rolled back.

Her actions come in line with growing movements within football and beyond to promote diversity and inclusion, and highlight the importance of athletes who use their visibility not only to entertain but also to advocate for those whose voices are often ignored or silenced.

As Manchester City continues its campaign in the Women’s Super League, Casparij’s moment of solidarity will likely be remembered as more than just a celebration — but as a deeply human statement about the power of empathy, identity, and courage.

The Tryst Fire Island to Redefine The Pines With Bold New Vision

Tryst Hospitality is bringing new life and fresh energy to Fire Island Pines with the debut of The Tryst Fire Island, a reimagined version of the beloved Botel and a complete revitalization of The Waterfront at The Pines.

The first look at the highly anticipated property was unveiled this week, revealing 30 upgraded guest rooms, a modernized pool deck, and a fully integrated hospitality experience that transforms the heart of Fire Island Pines.

“Fire Island Pines has long been a haven for queer people,” said Tryst Hospitality Founder & CEO Tristan Schukraft.

“Honoring that legacy means preserving our past while evolving to serve the next generation.”

A Bold Hotel Makeover: Goodbye Botel, Hello Tryst

While maintaining the charm of the original structure, The Tryst Fire Island will feature a full interior refresh. The award-winning team behind The Tryst Puerto Vallarta has redesigned every room with a sleek, modern aesthetic, including ensuite bathrooms—a major upgrade from the Botel’s once-shared facilities.

Schukraft emphasized that the redesign isn’t just cosmetic. “We’re creating a destination that feels sophisticated and effortless—elevated, yet still full of fun.”

The Waterfront at The Pines: A Social Hub Reimagined

More than just a hotel, the project redefines the entire Waterfront at The Pines with a “campus-style” layout connecting:

    • The Blue Whale, The Canteen, The Pavilion nightclub, and The Tryst Hotel
    • Retail shops, a refreshed gym, and the expanded pool deck

    Highlights include:

    • A revitalized pool deck with more frequent public access and new events
    • A redesigned menu at The Canteen, moving beyond grab-and-go to offer fresh, high-quality meals
    • Expanded hours across venues to create a true all-day, all-season experience
    • Sustainable landscaping using native plants to beautify and conceal back-of-house operations
    • Eco-conscious policies, such as eliminating plastic bottles and partnering with local minority-owned businesses

Investing in People, Not Just Property

In addition to guest amenities, Tryst is investing over $3 million in upgraded staff housing. Seasonal employees will now have air conditioning, WiFi, TVs, and communal lounges—transforming once-basic accommodations into comfortable, modern living spaces.

Behind the scenes, Tryst has also invested in critical infrastructure like plumbing and septic systems to benefit the entire Pines community for years to come.

The Future of Fire Island Nightlife

The fun doesn’t stop at check-in. The Blue Whale will operate as usual in 2025 with an expanded menu and is slated for a major restoration in 2026. The iconic mosaic dance floor, home to the first-ever Tea Dance in 1966, will be preserved and enhanced with new covered areas and a second story.

Meanwhile, The Pavilion nightclub will relaunch High Tea this summer and will undergo a full reimagination in 2026—cementing its place as Fire Island’s nightlife centerpiece.

    Making Fire Island More Accessible

Traditionally known for its exclusive rentals and tight-knit community, Fire Island Pines hasn’t always been easy to access. The Tryst Fire Island changes that by offering direct bookings, modern amenities, and affordable luxury for all travelers—no insider hookups required.

With this transformation, Tryst is opening up The Pines to a wider LGBTQ+ audience, ensuring the island’s legacy is both honored and expanded.

More to Come from Tryst Hospitality

The Tryst Puerto Vallarta is now open for previews and officially launches April 25. In 2026, The Tryst San Juan will debut, alongside the highly anticipated reopening of Circo, the iconic gay nightclub just in time for Bad Bunny’s Summer residency.

The Canteen, The Blue Whale, Pavilion, and other venues will begin limited operations in early May, expanding to full summer hours by Memorial Day Weekend.

“Even though this upcoming set of shows is Stripped, it is not the same Stripped show as last year. It’s Stripped II, which is telling different stories,” Colby said in an exclusive interview with Out magazine. “The first Stripped Tour was more centered around my life experiences that brought me to where I am today. With Stripped II, I want to tell different stories about trans experiences and queer experiences that are more general and universal.”

The tour comes at a time when LGBTQ+ communities across the United States are facing increasing challenges, with anti-LGBTQ+ legislation on the rise. But Colby is undeterred. In fact, she’s using her platform to stand louder and prouder than ever.

“Obviously, with the state of mankind right now, it is really scary to be one’s authentic self,” she said. “But our queer strength and community are what will get us through these hard times. It is so important right now to be out, loud and proud — that is the number one weapon in our arsenal to fight back against hatred and sheer stupidity.”

Colby says the tour is not just entertainment — it’s a celebration of resilience, creativity and authenticity.

Kori King Goes Viral After ‘Drag Race’ With Wild Cameos and Heated Words for Nikki Blonsky

Kori King may not have snagged any challenge wins or left the judges speechless on the runway during RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17, but don’t be fooled — the queen is thriving.

The fan-favorite performer has carved out a viral empire online, and in recent months, she’s become a surprising sensation on Cameo, where she’s been neck-and-neck with Hairspray star Nikki Blonsky for the top spot. Yes, that Nikki Blonsky.

While strutting down the red carpet at the Season 17 finale, King didn’t hold back when asked about her unexpected Cameo competition.

“F*** Nikki Blonsky, you c***!” King told PRIDE. “I hope Hairspray comes and fires you and takes all of your rights to sing that fing song. I hope you fall off the face of the Earth and never go back to Cameo. I need to get you banned, you fing b****.”

The NSFW comments may have dropped jaws, but fans of King know this type of unfiltered chaos is exactly what’s made her so popular.

What truly sets Kori King apart on Cameo is her unpredictable multiverse of characters. In any given video, she might appear as a chaotic take on Shrek, a possessed JoJo Siwa, or a diva-fied version of Michael Jackson. Her most infamous character, Kori Jackson, is a soulful figure she describes as both “sickening” and “a worried soul that needs saving.”

  • Doechii Drops Cinematic ‘Anxiety’ Music Video Bringing Stunning Visuals to Her Viral Hit

Doechii Drops Cinematic ‘Anxiety’ Music Video Bringing Stunning Visuals to Her Viral Hit

Rising chart-topper and certified bisexual icon Doechii is turning up the heat—again. The genre-defying rapper and singer has just dropped the official music video for her breakout hit “Anxiety,” and it’s every bit as bold, surreal, and unforgettable as fans have come to expect from the self-proclaimed “Swamp Princess.”

Co-directed with James Mackel, the video brings cinematic flair to the track, which samples Gotye and Kimbra’s early-2010s classic “Somebody That I Used to Know.” “Anxiety” recently became Doechii’s first single to break into the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100, a major milestone for the Tampa-born artist who’s quickly becoming one of the most dynamic names in music.

From Bedroom Vibes to Beautiful Bedlam

The video opens with a direct nod to Doechii’s now-iconic COVEN MUSIC SESSION, where she first premiered “Anxiety” back in May 2020. Seated in her bed beneath the same tapestry seen in the original visual, she’s initially calm—but calm doesn’t last long in Doechii’s world.

Wearing a sleek white MIU MIU top, she’s carried from bed into her lavish living room, where the chaos soon kicks off. Burglars crash through windows, The Shining-style twins stare each other down on the couch, a fire erupts in the kitchen, and Gotye and Kimbra even pop in for a quick cameo in front of the song’s original cover art.

With all the chaos ensuing around her, she stumbles outside the house. Just when you think you’ve seen it all—there’s an elephant. Yes, an actual elephant comes stomping toward the estate as the video builds to a stunning finale: a full-blown flash mob surrounding Doechii, closing in before breaking out into a high-energy dance sequence that turns the chaos into catharsis.

A Viral Hit Gets the Hollywood Treatment

The release of the “Anxiety” video comes just as the song continues its viral reign on TikTok and beyond. Most recently, Doechii teamed up with none other than Will Smith and Tatyana Ali—aka Uncle Will and Cousin Ashley from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air—for a social media dance that broke the internet.

Recreating a scene from the show’s 1990 pilot episode, Ali starts the trend by dancing solo in her room, headphones on, while Smith sneaks in behind her to mirror her moves. Smith shared the video on Instagram with the caption, “Waited 35 years for this dance to trend,” and the internet was instantly obsessed.

Gabby Windey and Robby Hoffman Just Tied the Knot Legally This Time and You Need to See This Dress

Gabby Windey and Robby Hoffman have officially tied the knot — for the second time this year! The couple, who started dating in 2023, recently celebrated their legal courthouse wedding just over a month after their surprise Las Vegas ceremony back in January.

On April 15, Windey, who has garnered significant attention for her TikTok content and her role in season three of The Traitors, shared a series of photos from the intimate courthouse ceremony on Instagram. The caption read, “I do thee legally wed!!” signaling their second trip down the aisle in just a few months.

Windey’s fans, especially within the LGBTQ+ community, have supported her for quite some time, and they were thrilled to see her share such a joyful milestone. However, this time around, it’s not just Windey who is capturing attention. Robby Hoffman, a talented comedian who is also making waves on the new season of Hacks, is steadily becoming a favorite among fans as well. In the show, Hoffman plays Kayla, the new assistant to characters Megan Stalter’s Jimmy and Paul W. Downs’ role, offering her own comedic flare to the series.

In her Instagram post, Windey included a carousel of photos showing behind-the-scenes moments from the courthouse wedding, providing fans a glimpse into the special day. The first photo in the series shows the couple smiling while holding hands, standing next to the officiant. Other photos capture the couple sharing a kiss, making silly faces together, and enjoying their wedding cake. One of the more playful images features the couple sitting in the back of a limo, still beaming with joy from the ceremony.

But it’s Windey’s choice of attire that is bound to turn heads. The bride wore a daring see-through micro wedding dress, showing off her bold fashion taste. Meanwhile, Hoffman kept things simple, donning a white button-down shirt over a white T-shirt paired with black slacks, bringing an effortlessly cool vibe to the occasion.

The couple’s journey to marriage has been filled with charm and serendipity. Windey and Hoffman, who first met in 2023, had to relocate to Las Vegas following the Los Angeles wildfires, where they decided to wed in secret. They tied the knot in a small, intimate ceremony on January 11, just a few weeks after they began dating.

Hoffman’s proposal was nothing short of sweet and personal. In an interview with Cosmopolitan, Hoffman shared that she orchestrated the proposal in a unique and nerdy way that had Windey swooning. “I had a friend make a crossword,” Hoffman explained. “I gave him the clues and the answers, and I said it had to say, ‘WILL YOU MARRY ME, GABBY.’” The clever and heartfelt approach was certainly a memorable moment for the couple.

After the proposal, the couple quickly separated to prepare for their Las Vegas wedding, which came together effortlessly. Windey reflected on the day with warmth and joy, saying, “Everything just fell into place so naturally. It felt so serendipitous and so precious and so meant to be.”

For Hoffman, the experience was equally magical. She recalled, “It was the best wedding I’ve ever been to. We got to spend our wedding truly together. We love to be together.”

Though their first ceremony in Las Vegas was private, the couple has since embraced sharing their special moments with fans. Windey’s social media presence has played a significant role in keeping her followers updated on her life, and her wedding journey has been no exception. With these two weddings under their belt, it’s clear that Windey and Hoffman have found their happily-ever-after.

The couple’s relationship has sparked widespread attention, not just for their love story but also for the way they’ve connected with their audience. Windey, who is known for her authenticity and humor, has captured the hearts of many, especially those who admire her bold personality and genuine connection with her followers. Hoffman’s comedic talent and charming presence only add to the couple’s dynamic, making them a fan-favorite pair.

As their journey together continues, Windey and Hoffman are setting an example of how love, humor, and serendipity can come together in the most unexpected and beautiful ways. Fans are excited to see where their relationship goes next — and whether there will be any more wedding celebrations in their future.

Whether it’s a courthouse wedding, a Las Vegas ceremony, or a future event, it’s clear that Windey and Hoffman are a perfect match, and their fans are eager to celebrate each moment with them. As the couple continues to share their love story with the world, it’s clear that their bond is only growing stronger with each passing day.

For now, Windey and Hoffman are enjoying their time together, relishing in the joy of their two weddings and the love they share. And with such a unique and heartfelt journey, it’s likely that their fans will continue to support them every step of the way.

Is This Coachella The Gayest One Yet? The Beaches Have to Agree with That Statement

Toronto’s rock darlings The Beaches made their Coachella debut this weekend, and they didn’t just bring the music — they brought the queer party with them. Fresh off the release of their new single “Last Girls At The Party” featuring Aussie alt-pop powerhouse G Flip, the band lit up the Gobi tent on Sunday with a performance that was both electric and deeply personal.

“We’re tired, sweaty, and kissed a lot of girls — so yeah, it’s been a weekend,” laughed Leandra Earl after their set speaking with Gayety. “It’s definitely the gayest Coachella I’ve ever been to. I’d say that confidently.” And she should know — the band has become a loud and proud voice for queer representation in alt rock, and they’re clearly thriving in the desert heat.

    “If You Don’t Think Straight…”

The band’s new track, “Last Girls At The Party,” is already climbing the charts, debuting this week at No. 35 on Billboard Canada’s Modern Rock chart. The performance at Coachella was a highlight of the weekend, thanks in large part to G Flip joining them onstage to deliver the second verse, which includes the now-iconic line: “If you don’t think straight, it’s your lucky day, I’m open late.”

It’s the kind of lyric that lands perfectly at an event where queerness isn’t just accepted — it’s celebrated. “There’s such a community here,” Earl said. “Even if you come alone, you won’t stay that way. It’s all love.”

From Viral Hit to Desert Stage

G-Flip didn’t just join for the new single. They came back out for “Blame Brett,” the band’s massive 2023 viral hit that turned The Beaches into household names. From heartbreak anthem to queer healing moment, the song took on new life at Coachella — with help from G-Flip and even a surprise cameo from Canadian comedian Veronika Slowikowska, who joined the band in a playful backstage TikTok to mark the occasion.

Lead singer Jordan Miller called the moment a “full circle” experience. “We’ve always dreamed of playing Coachella. I was just trying to take it all in and not let the nerves take over,” she said. “Also, I took a mushroom pill, so vibes were high.”

    Still the Last Girls Standing

With leather pants, desert heat, and mushroom microdoses, The Beaches leaned fully into the chaos. “I’m definitely trying to be the last girl at Coachella,” Earl joked, referencing their single’s title. “I’ve been raging all weekend. I’m not stopping now.”

They’ll get another shot next weekend when they return for Coachella’s second round on April 20. And with their new album No Hard Feelings dropping August 29, the summer looks even busier. Exclusive invite-only DJ sets are planned for fans who pre-save the record — the band’s way of throwing more parties for the people who’ve been with them from the start.

So yeah, it might just be the gayest Coachella ever — and The Beaches are here for all of it.

  • Johann Vera Embraces Queer Joy, Debuts EP ‘Nada Importa En Verdad’ and Men’s Lingerie Line

Johann Vera Embraces Queer Joy, Debuts EP ‘Nada Importa En Verdad’ and Men’s Lingerie Line

Latin pop artist Johann Vera is having a banner year, and he’s doing it with unapologetic flair. Since publicly coming out as queer in August 2023, the Ecuadorian singer, actor, and influencer has released his debut EP Nada Importa En Verdad and launched a bold new line of men’s lingerie. Now, with growing momentum and the support of Latin pop legend Ricky Martin, Vera is entering a new era of creative freedom—and he’s not looking back.

From La Banda to Center Stage

Vera, 29, first gained international recognition in 2015 as a finalist on La Banda, the Spanish-language talent competition created by Ricky Martin and Simon Cowell. Though he didn’t make the final cut for the boy band CNCO, Vera used the opportunity as a springboard for a multifaceted career. For years, however, he kept his sexuality hidden, feeling pressure to conform to industry norms—especially those tied to the Latin pop image of the charming, heterosexual heartthrob.

“I didn’t like that I had to play a role that didn’t reflect who I was,” Vera told Queerty in a recent interview. “There were a couple of queer guys on the show, and I saw them struggle. It really set the tone for what we thought we had to be.”

Coming Out, and Coming Into His Own

After years of reflection and therapy, Vera came out publicly in 2023 through his deeply personal single, “Closet.” The music video, which visualizes his journey of self-discovery, was met with an outpouring of love—including support from his former mentor, Ricky Martin.

“Ricky told me to just do it,” Vera recalled. “He’s from a different generation and said he wished he had come out sooner. His encouragement gave me the confidence I needed.”

That single marked the beginning of a new creative chapter, culminating in his debut EP Nada Importa En Verdad, which dropped in January 2024. The project blends infectious Latin pop beats with raw emotion and themes of liberation, self-love, and identity.

“The title means ‘Nothing Really Matters,’ and it’s a reminder not to overthink everything,” Vera said. “It helped me let go of fear and just be myself. I started living more fully—and flirting a lot more openly.”

Fashion with a Purpose: Meet Duro

As if a hit EP wasn’t enough, Vera took things a step further by launching Duro, his new men’s lingerie line inspired by the EP’s songs and visuals. With sultry, boundary-pushing designs—including peekaboo thongs and cut-out briefs—Duro aims to celebrate sensuality, confidence, and queer joy.

“I wanted something that was sexy but also comfortable,” Vera said. “There’s a pair of underwear inspired by ‘Closet’ that has a little cutout in the back—like a little cleavage for guys. I think it’s super hot.”

The line includes three capsule collections, each tied to the emotions of a specific song. Whether it’s the dreamy, ethereal vibes of “Cielo” or the fierce energy of “Nada Importa En Verdad,” Vera hopes Duro helps people connect more deeply with themselves and feel empowered in their skin.

“I was running from my queer identity for so long,” he admitted. “Now, I want to be loud and proud about it—and I want to create art and fashion that speaks to our community.”

Looking Ahead: Big Dreams, Bigger Purpose

As Vera looks toward the next chapter of his career, he’s focused on continuing to tell honest, meaningful stories—through both music and fashion. A Latin Grammy nomination is high on his wish list, but so is spotlighting artists from Ecuador and uplifting the next generation of queer creatives.

“I want to keep creating, keep helping, and keep being real,” Vera said. “This is the most honest I’ve ever been. And if nothing really matters—nada importa en verdad—then I might as well be happy and help others find that happiness too.”

Johann Vera’s EP Nada Importa En Verdad is now available on all major streaming platforms. His men’s lingerie line, Duro, is available for purchase at shopduro.com.

While Lil Nas X has not disclosed a specific diagnosis, fans and medical professionals have speculated that he may be experiencing Bell’s palsy, a condition that causes sudden weakness or paralysis on one side of the face due to inflammation of the facial nerve. According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, the exact cause of Bell’s palsy is unknown, but it can be triggered by high blood pressure, infections, diabetes, or toxins in the system.

Bell’s palsy is typically non-life-threatening, and most individuals recover fully within weeks or months with appropriate treatment, which may include steroids, antiviral medications, and physical therapy. However, in rare cases, severe symptoms can lead to lasting nerve damage or partial blindness.

    Support from Fans and Celebrities

Following Lil Nas X’s announcement, fans and fellow celebrities expressed their support and well-wishes. Actress Taraji P. Henson, comedian Wanda Sykes, and singer Maren Morris were among those who reached out on social media, offering advice and encouragement for a speedy recovery.

Despite the health setback, Lil Nas X has maintained his signature sense of humor and positive attitude. In a recent Instagram post, he joked about his condition, saying, “Imma look funny for a lil bit but that’s it.”

    Upcoming Projects

The hospitalization comes as Lil Nas X has been teasing a new era in his music career. He has released several singles leading up to his forthcoming second studio album, “Dreamboy.” The album follows his 2021 debut, “Montero,” which featured the record-breaking hit “Old Town Road.” The song made history by becoming the longest-running No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, staying at the top for 19 consecutive weeks.

Fans are eagerly awaiting the release of “Dreamboy,” anticipating a continuation of Lil Nas X’s innovative approach to music and visual storytelling.

Laith Ashley Embraces the Joy of the Journey in New Revry Series ‘Unconventional’

Laith Ashley is continuing to make waves in Hollywood—not just as a model and actor, but as one of the most prominent transgender voices in the entertainment industry. Known for standout roles in Pose, Strut, and Wicked City, Ashley recently reached a massive global audience playing the dreamy love interest opposite Taylor Swift in the music video for her hit single “Lavender Haze.” Now, he’s channeling his talent into something a little different: a comedy series that goes deep on love, identity, and the glorious chaos of chosen family.

A Decade In, and Still Breaking New Ground

In an interview with Out, After more than 10 years in the industry, Ashley is taking a moment to reflect. For much of his career, he admits he was focused on hustling to the next big opportunity, without pausing to enjoy the ride.

“The 10 years I’ve been in this industry, I haven’t had the opportunity to enjoy the journey because I was so focused on the next thing that I didn’t appreciate the gifts that I was experiencing throughout,” Ashley says. “Now that I’m a little bit older and I’m looking back at my trajectory, I’m just grateful that I got the opportunity to do what I’ve been able to do.”

And what he’s doing now is arguably his boldest move yet.

Meet Dell: Laith Ashley’s Most Honest Role Yet

Ashley stars in Unconventional, a boundary-pushing comedy series now streaming on LGBTQ+ platform Revry. The series boasts a powerhouse ensemble cast, including Kit Williamson, James Bland, Kathy Griffin, Beau Bridges, and RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Willam Belli.

The show centers around two queer siblings and their partners—one of whom is the sperm donor for the other’s wife—and isn’t afraid to lean into the messy beauty of modern queer life. Ashley plays Dell, a trans man grappling with self-worth and substance use, in what may be his most emotionally layered role to date.

“I think it goes there,” Ashley says. “This is a very, very gay story. Something like this in mainstream television might feel like too much for folks. Even talking about substance abuse is sometimes taboo within our community. But it’s important—we’re not here to shame anyone. We’re here to tell the truth.”

Chosen Family and Queer Joy—With a Side of Chaos

At the heart of Unconventional is the concept of chosen family, something Ashley—and many LGBTQ+ viewers—know deeply.

“A lot of us, as queer people, have been pushed to the margins, ostracized from the families that were supposed to love us unconditionally,” Ashley says. “So we create chosen families, which can be beautiful… but let’s be real, they can also be a hot mess.”

That emotional honesty, paired with sharp writing and a fearless ensemble, makes Unconventional a rare gem in the world of queer media: it’s funny, it’s messy, and it’s unapologetically real.

Unconventional is now streaming exclusively on Revry.
