Dear men, it’s totally ok to wear makeup and here are five reasons why.
Western society has always had members that were determined to label us. We allowed these members to tell us how men and women should act, We let fashion trends tell us what to wear, and how to wear it. However, one by one, the taboos are falling.
Wearing makeup throughout history has been allowed and promoted for men. As far back as the Roman Empire, men wore makeup. But, along the way, we somehow adopted a belief that it is not manly to wear makeup. This would have been news to Alexander The Great. Who was the king of the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedon, and was known for wearing makeup and using scented oils.
Five Reasons Why It Is Good for Men to Wear Makeup
1. Looking good
It is not a male or female thing to want to look good. Most of us are not born with perfect features. This is not a male/female problem, it is a people problem. Using cosmetics allows a man to define the shape of his nose, give himself a strong jaw bone, and bring out his best features.
2. Protection
There are cosmetics that contain sunscreen, anti-wrinkle properties, and blemish protection. Protecting the skin is important. Men who do not wear makeup can find themselves with burning, aging, and dry skin. The right makeup will help him address the issues.
3. Wear a professional and polished look
When you are in an office environment, looking polished gives you a sense of self-confidence. Business meetings, interviews, and visiting with clients are an important part of the business world. If you look sharp, you will be received as sharp.
4. Stand-out
There are times when you want to stand out. Maybe you are going to the club, or going on a first date. Maybe you are competing for a customer’s business. Whatever you are doing, stand out and be unforgettable.
5. Defining masculinity
The old-fashioned ideas of what is and what is not masculine had to be changed. The changes have happened gradually, but they have happened. A few things that were considered unmasculine include:
- Wearing pink and other pastel colors
- Wearing earrings, nose rings, necklaces, and certain types of jewelry
- Getting a facial, manicure, or pedicure
- Dying hair
- Walk away from a fight
As you can see, these things that defined masculinity are ridiculous. None of these items have anything to do with one’s anatomy.
Didn’t you see it coming?
In the past couple of decades, men have jumped the line into “no man’s land” a few times. As society applauded women for leaving home for high-powered professional lives, there were few words of encouragement for the men who stayed home to care for and nurture the children.
Regardless, we have evolved. Today we want men’s makeup. We are not asking permission. We are assuming the position.

While there are some famous male chefs, the act of preparing the meals for the family was primarily left up to the woman of the house. But today, men are cooking family meals that do not come off the barbeque grille. Men are adopting children to raise with their partners and they refuse to let society tell them what is and is not masculine.
Breaking the taboo of cosmetics for men is a natural progression. We hope that one day people be free to be who they are without exception. We hope that men will accept their basic human right to appear in public in any manner they choose.
