Last week, every gay boy’s favorite girl toy got a makeover. Barbie will now longer be a tall, blonde, bombshell. Well, not all the time anyway. Starting March 1, Barbie will be redesigned and offered in a variety of shapes, sizes and colors — just like real women.
Some people say “Barbie’s basic,” which is blasphemy. The global general manager for Barbie, Evelyn Mazzocco, stood up to those who think altering Barbie’s look will besmirch the doll’s reputation. “We believe we have a responsibility to girls and parents to reflect a broader view of beauty,” Mazzocco said.

But beauty isn’t the only reason Barbie has been around for more than 55 years. As a reminder that you can be whatever you want, Barbie occupied dozens of positions including a paratrooper, doctor, president, and architect.
Barbie has and will continue to be a cultural icon no matter how tall, short, thick or thin she is. But, we would like to see more boys with Barbie. Wouldn’t you?
