Billie Eilish’s sexuality has been making headlines, and the singer has had enough.
While on the red carpet of Variety’s Hitmaker event, Billie Eilish stopped to chat with one of the reporters about her upcoming album and her previous interview with the outlet.
Last month, the 21-year-old singer was part of Varietyβs βThe Power of Womenβ issue. She told the outlet that she is physically attracted to women but has always been intimidated by them. Many took this statement as Eilish coming out.
“Did you mean to come out?” the interviewer asked on Saturday morning.
“No I did not,” she replied. “But I kind of thought: ‘wasn’t it obvious?'”
Eilish and the interviewer agreed that we need to get to a place where no one feels the need to come out. βI just donβt really believe in it. Iβm just like, why canβt we just exist? Iβve been doing this for a long time and I just didnβt talk about it. Whoops.β
Eilish was all smiles on the carpet, but after reflection, she spoke out about the interaction online.
βThanksΒ VarietyΒ for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11 am instead of talking about anything else that matters. I like boys and girls. Leave me alone about it, please. Literally who cares. Stream βWhat Was I Made For.ββ

Eilish Says She is Attracted to Women
From playfully employing a filter proclaiming βgay and tiredβ to openly discussing her celebrity crushes, Eilish has consistently expressed her attraction to women without feeling the need to confine herself to any specific labels. But if there was any doubt, the βbad guyβ singer affirmed her stance in an interview withΒ Variety.
βIβve never really felt like I could relate to girls very well,β she said. βI love them so much. I love them as people. Iβm attracted to them as people. Iβm attracted to them for real.
She added, “Iβm physically attracted to them. But Iβm also so intimidated by them and their beauty and their presence.β
Eilish has faced scrutiny for her appearance and her sexuality since we first heard her sing βOcean Eyesβ in 2015.
βI have never felt like a woman, to be honest with you. Iβve never felt desirable. Iβve never felt feminine,β she told the outlet. βI have to convince myself that Iβm, like, a pretty girl.β
The interview continues with the βWhat Was I Made For?β singer speaking on her choice to wear baggy clothes at the beginning of her career and how it had nothing to do with being sexualized. Eilish kicked off her career at 16 and sheβs only 21 now. Itβs eye-opening to witness how demanding the industry can be, especially for young artists.
Eilish has also spoken about her desire to keep her personal life private. In 2021, she told Elle, βLike, oh yeah,Β thatβs everyone elseβs business, right? No. Whereβs that energy with men?
βI just wanted to make a song once, and then I kept making songs. I never said: βHey, pay attention to my life.ββ
