‘Canada’s Drag Race’ Winner Venus Packs Glitter and Big Dreams for Life After the Crown

Venus, the newly crowned winner of Canada’s Drag Race Season 4, is still basking in the post-victory glow—but make no mistake, she’s already looking ahead. And yes, that glow is literally enhanced by body glitter.

“I forgot underwear, so maybe that,” Venus quipped when asked what she packed for her trip to Puerto Vallarta. “Sunscreen is always good, I love Maui Babe, and a little glitter. Glitter always. I like to shine.”

Shine, she certainly does. Venus spoke with us during the grand opening of The Tryst in PV, a growing LGBTQ+ hospitality brand she called “inclusive” and “welcoming,” praising it for helping queer people “make more connections around the world.”

One Woman, One Show, Big Plans

Venus may have snatched the crown, but she’s not resting on it.

“Right now, I’m working on my one-woman show,” she revealed. “And I have a very special campaign coming July 1st that involves Canada, the U.S., and Mexico. That’s our first official teaser!”

While she kept the details under wraps, Venus made it clear that she’s stepping into a global spotlight—and loving every second of it.

    Lessons from the Werk Room

Despite the confetti and applause, Venus isn’t looking back. Literally.

“I have not looked back. I don’t want to look back,” she said of her Drag Race experience. “All I know is that I have been leveling up, which is what we want.”

Venus shared that one of her biggest takeaways was learning to stop underestimating herself.

“Once I stopped doing that, I just flew over my own expectations,” she said. “You can’t worry about what might happen—you just have to go for it. Once I did that, I won.”

    Simple? Maybe. But powerful? Absolutely.

    The Power of “Let Them”

As 2025 rolls on, Venus is embracing a new mantra.

“It’s 2025. Let them,” she said, laughing exuberantly. It’s a phrase that doubles as both a boundary and a battle cry—fitting for a queen who’s done playing small.

And as for those dazzling nails that caught our eye?

“Thank you,” Venus said, flashing her fingers with flair. “They’re part of the whole shine.”

With glitter in her bag, a crown on her head, and a fierce solo show in the works, Venus isn’t just riding the wave—she’s making her own tide.

  • Queer Love and Emotional Stakes Rise as Ellie and Dina Connect in ‘The Last of Us’

Queer Love and Emotional Stakes Rise as Ellie and Dina Connect in ‘The Last of Us’

Season 2 of The Last of Us has already delivered emotional punches, none more resonant than those in Episode 4. Directed by Loki alum Kate Herron, the episode marks a significant turning point for the HBO series, not only in narrative but in the emotional and relational stakes for its central characters.

Fans are still processing the early loss of Joel (Pedro Pascal), but the story has quickly pivoted to focus on Ellie (Bella Ramsey), Dina (Isabela Merced), and newcomer Isaac Dixon (Jeffrey Wright). This episode forces each character to confront choices that could alter the course of their lives—and in the case of Dina, a surprise pregnancy reveals new emotional territory.

Herron spoke with Out about crafting this deeply personal chapter, which explores queer love, identity, and found family in the midst of a violent and uncertain world. Her direction brings a sense of intimacy and emotional nuance rarely seen in apocalyptic storytelling.

A Story of Survival and Identity

Episode 4 opens with a young soldier forced by Isaac to choose a side. Herron says that moment establishes the tone for the entire episode.

“For me, it was all about grounding the story emotionally,” Herron said. “Whether it’s the military pressure, Ellie and Dina’s romance, or the trauma these characters carry, it was crucial to track the emotional arcs and make the audience feel like they’re right there with them.”

The character of Isaac, introduced for the first time this season, adds thematic weight to the episode. While Herron deferred to series co-creator Craig Mazin on Isaac’s broader role, she emphasized that showing human threats—beyond the infected—was essential.

“In Seattle, people are as dangerous, if not more so, than the infected,” she said. “That sets the stage for what’s coming.”

Queer Love in a Genre Landscape

Known for bringing queer representation into mainstream genre television, Herron believes that science fiction and horror offer unique avenues to explore universal themes.

“The best genre stories make us feel something real,” she said. “Ellie and Dina’s love story is so relatable, even in this fantastical setting.”

One of the most poignant scenes occurs when Ellie plays “Take On Me” on guitar—an act of emotional vulnerability that deepens her connection with Dina. Herron worked closely with Ramsey to explore different shades of shyness and confidence.

Ellie playing 'Take on Me' in an emotional scene during Season 2, Episode 4. Photo: HBO
Ellie playing ‘Take on Me’ in an emotional scene during Season 2, Episode 4. Photo: HBO

“It’s such a human moment—Ellie playing for someone she cares about,” she said. “And of course, there’s a shadow of Joel in that, too, since he taught her guitar.”

    Trust, Secrets, and Intimacy

Later in the episode, tension builds as Dina learns of Ellie’s bite. At the same time, Dina is grappling with her own secret—her pregnancy with ex-boyfriend Jesse’s child. Herron used pacing and setting to emphasize emotional stakes.

“It was important that the kiss felt earned,” she said. “We don’t give viewers a moment to catch their breath, which mirrors how the characters feel.”

The morning-after conversation between Ellie and Dina stands as one of the episode’s most intimate moments. When Ellie offers to raise the child as a parent figure, Herron said it was vital to present that moment with authenticity.

    Photo: HBO
    Photo: HBO

“It’s a quiet act of radical love,” she explained. “Ellie’s willingness to step into that role shows how deep their bond is. I just wanted the audience to feel like they were witnessing something private and deeply human.”

Reimagining Family in a Harsh World

As queer family structures face increased scrutiny in today’s political climate, Herron believes portraying chosen family onscreen is a powerful form of resistance.

“It’s a grounded conversation that could happen between any two people,” she said. “But because it’s between two queer characters, it challenges what some people think family has to look like.”

Herron credits Mazin and co-creator Neil Druckmann for allowing space to tell that story authentically.

A Future for Ellie and Dina?

Though Herron declined to speculate on where the story is headed, she shared her hope that Ellie and Dina find lasting happiness.

“For one brief moment, they realize the person they love feels the same way,” she said. “That kind of joy is rare in their world—and it’s what makes it so powerful.”

As Herron transitions from Doctor Who and The Last of Us to her next project set in The Sims universe, one theme remains constant in her work: empathy.

“I’m drawn to imperfect characters,” she said. “Storytelling helps us understand people we don’t always agree with—and maybe, along the way, we find a bit more connection.”

The Last of Us airs Sundays on Max.

  • Colman Domingo’s Real-Life Husband Helped Cast His On-Screen Partner in ‘The Four Seasons’

Colman Domingo’s Real-Life Husband Helped Cast His On-Screen Partner in ‘The Four Seasons’

Colman Domingo and Marco Calvani deliver standout performances as a married couple in Netflix’s new comedy series, The Four Seasons, which premiered on May 1. This modern reimagining of the 1981 film, co-created by Tina Fey, explores the complexities of long-term friendships and relationships through the lens of three couples who embark on seasonal vacations together.

Domingo portrays Danny, a pragmatic and emotionally reserved character, while Calvani plays Claude, his flamboyant and expressive husband. Their on-screen chemistry has been widely praised, with critics highlighting the authenticity and depth they bring to their roles. The series also stars Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Will Forte, and Kerri Kenney-Silver, among others.

The casting of Calvani was a serendipitous decision. Domingo’s husband, Raul, suggested Calvani for the role after the two couples had become close friends. Domingo recalls, “Raul had the brilliant idea. He said, ‘You know who would be a great candidate for your husband? Marco Calvani!’” Initially hesitant due to Calvani’s background as a director and writer, Domingo was convinced after seeing Calvani’s audition. “Marco just had that special something,” Domingo remarked.

Calvani, who had not acted in over a decade, embraced the opportunity despite initial reservations. He describes the experience as transformative, stating, “I felt like a fish out of water; I didn’t feel like I fully belonged there. But Colman made everything so wonderfully smooth and pleasant.” He also credits Domingo with being a supportive mentor on set. “He was there to root for me, and he’s a great listener,” Calvani added.

The series delves into the dynamics of long-term relationships, highlighting both the joys and challenges that come with them. Domingo appreciates the show’s exploration of these themes, noting, “I get to just laugh and wear cute sweaters.” He values the opportunity to portray a character that is both humorous and emotionally complex.

The Four Seasons has been well-received by audiences and critics alike for its blend of humor and heartfelt moments. The series’ ensemble cast and insightful writing offer a refreshing take on the classic film, providing a nuanced portrayal of modern relationships.

All eight episodes of The Four Seasons are now available for streaming on Netflix.

  • Colton Haynes Says Dream Role Would Be in ‘CSI: West Hollywood’ If There Ever Was One (Exclusive)

Colton Haynes Says Dream Role Would Be in ‘CSI: West Hollywood’ If There Ever Was One (Exclusive)

Colton Haynes has a bold new idea for the small screen—one that would mix high drama, queer visibility, and a whole lot of West Hollywood flair.

In a recent conversation with Gayety at The Tryst Puerto Vallarta opening, the Teen Wolf and Arrow star hinted at his desire to return to television in a fresh and fabulous way. The concept? A queer-centric spinoff of one of TV’s most iconic crime franchises.

“I want to create a show called CSI: West Hollywood,” Haynes said with a laugh. “I’m serious—it’d be fierce. All queer investigators solving fabulous crimes. Give me glitter, high heels, and murder mysteries.”

While the pitch was made with a dose of humor, it’s clear Haynes is thinking creatively about how LGBTQ+ stories can evolve in mainstream entertainment. The actor, who has built a career on genre-defining roles, is ready for his next chapter—and he’s hoping it includes storytelling that puts queer characters at the center of the action.

From Teen Wolf to Hollywood Visionary

Colton Haynes first broke into the spotlight over a decade ago, but he still looks back on Teen Wolf as the launchpad that changed his life.

“It’s crazy to think Teen Wolf was 16 years ago,” Haynes shared. “We even recently did the movie. It’s the show that never dies.”

Now, Haynes is ready to step behind the camera—and maybe into a producing or creative lead role—hoping to shape a series that reflects the vibrancy of the LGBTQ+ community. While CSI: West Hollywood is still just an idea, it taps into a broader movement of queer creatives reclaiming space in crime procedurals, thrillers, and genre TV that has long lacked LGBTQ+ representation.

Crime Drama, but Make It Queer

The idea of a show like CSI: West Hollywood resonates because it blends familiar television tropes with fresh representation. With crime dramas like Law & Order and CSI dominating airwaves for decades, there’s room—and growing demand—for a reinvention that reflects modern queer life.

“People want to see themselves on screen,” Haynes said. “Why not have queer detectives with backstories, relationships, heartbreak, and humor—just like everyone else?”

Haynes’ concept comes at a time when LGBTQ+ representation in media is being reexamined. Despite progress, queer characters—especially in crime and procedural dramas—often remain sidelined or tokenized. A show led by a predominantly queer cast in a campy, dramatic, and genuinely entertaining setting like West Hollywood could be the cultural reset television needs.

    Fond Memories and Future Dreams

Haynes also spoke warmly about his previous roles, including his time on American Horror Story, where he formed close friendships and memorable on-set experiences.

“Working with Ryan Murphy was a dream,” he said. “It felt like an instant family. We even went on vacation together—saw Cher in Vegas. It was special.”

That sense of community is something Haynes wants to recreate in his future projects. Whether acting, producing, or both, his vision for the future of queer television includes collaborative, joyful environments—and projects that push boundaries while making viewers feel seen.

    What’s Next for Colton Haynes?

While CSI: West Hollywood is still in the idea stage, Haynes has made it clear he’s serious about expanding queer narratives in television. He’s not just looking for another acting gig—he’s looking to tell new stories that reflect the community he belongs to.

As fans eagerly await his next move, Haynes is embracing a creative renaissance—one fueled by a decade of experience, Hollywood wisdom, and a desire to make TV a little more glittery, a little more inclusive, and a lot more fabulous.

“You never know what’s next,” he said with a smile. “But I’m excited to find out.”

  • Laverne Cox Opens Up About ‘Clean Slate’ Cancellation And New Path Forward: ‘I Was Gutted and Devastated’ (Exclusive)

Laverne Cox Opens Up About ‘Clean Slate’ Cancellation And New Path Forward: ‘I Was Gutted and Devastated’ (Exclusive)

Laverne Cox is opening up about the emotional impact of Clean Slate’s cancellation, calling the end of the series “gutting” and a “devastating” loss—not just for her as an actor, but for the fans who embraced the show.

In a candid moment with Gayety at the opening of The Tryst Hotel in Puerto Vallarta, Cox reflected on how she first felt upon hearing the news that Clean Slate, the Freevee comedy starring Cox and George Wallace, would not be moving forward after its first season. Despite the heartbreak, the Emmy-nominated star made it clear that she’s choosing gratitude over regret.

“I was gutted and devastated,” the ‘Orange Is The New Black‘ alum admitted. “But moving forward is the fans—and how we’ve already, with that one season, touched people and made a difference. The love that we gave and put into it, I’ve gotten it back ten times, and I keefep getting it.”

‘Clean Slate’ Promised Representation, Then Vanished

Clean Slate premiered to buzz for its fresh premise: Henry, a conservative Alabama car wash owner, is forced to reconcile with his estranged child Desiree (played by Cox), who returns home as a proud trans woman. The series was praised for tackling themes of identity, family, and generational acceptance with humor and heart.

    Laverne Cox for 'Clean Slate.'
    Laverne Cox for ‘Clean Slate.’

Cox’s casting was hailed as groundbreaking. For many trans viewers, seeing a Black trans woman co-lead a sitcom wasn’t just exciting—it was revolutionary. That’s part of why the cancellation hit so hard.

“Whether it’s one season, six seasons—that relationship between us and the fans is everything,” Cox said. “Thank you to the fans who watched and are continuing to watch and love our show.”

While Freevee and Amazon did not release detailed reasons behind the cancellation, industry insiders cited strategic shifts in programming and viewership data as contributing factors. Still, the sudden end left many questioning what space, if any, streaming platforms are truly making for stories led by and centered on trans characters.

    Beyond the Red Carpet

The end of Clean Slate isn’t the only shift in Cox’s professional life. She also recently stepped away from her high-profile red carpet hosting duties at E!, where she served as a dynamic, stylish, and deeply thoughtful interviewer.

“Deep respect to anyone who works the red carpet,” Cox said. “It was so much work. And I always hold myself to a very high standard.”

Known for her sharp questions, affirming energy, and undeniable fashion presence, Cox made a mark on the carpets. But she also revealed how emotionally and mentally taxing the job could be.

“It was so much work, and it was stressful,” she said. “And I’m an artist. I needed to step away.”

“The ratings were through the roof at E! when we were there,” Cox added. “I’m proud of that. I think we elevated the conversation, and we made the artists feel good and the audience feel good.”

    What’s Next for Laverne Cox?

Even as she steps away from two major platforms, Cox is far from done. Known for blazing trails and setting new standards in both Hollywood and media, she’s made it clear that she’s ready for the next chapter—whatever it may be.

“I just always want to do my best,” she said, thanking Lalwani and fans for their support. “And now—onto the next thing.”

With Clean Slate behind her, the red carpet in the rearview, and a career that’s always evolving, Cox remains a defining voice in trans visibility, intersectional storytelling, and authentic representation in Hollywood.

For fans still mourning Clean Slate, Cox’s message is simple but powerful: the work mattered—and it still does.

  • ‘White Lotus’ Star Jon Gries Gets Playful — and Shirtless — in New Jacquemus Campaign

‘White Lotus’ Star Jon Gries Gets Playful — and Shirtless — in New Jacquemus Campaign

You’ve never seen Greg from The White Lotus like this.

Jon Gries, best known for his role as the scheming Greg Hunt (aka “Gary”) in HBO’s The White Lotus, is turning heads in a way fans didn’t see coming. At 67, the veteran actor has stripped down — literally — for a vibrant and cheeky new fashion campaign by Jacquemus, and let’s just say… he’s giving “daddy” in a way that even Tanya McQuoid might appreciate.

The French label, known for its surrealist flair and viral runway moments, tapped Gries for a campaign that feels like a crossover between high fashion and a quirky daydream. In the photos, Gries is seen shirtless, banana-print boxers peeking out from under his low-rise jeans, topped with a Jacquemus jacket and a bold sunhat. He’s serving laid-back louche meets European vacation dad — and it works.

In another image, he’s seen golfing in loungewear, nibbling on an actual banana, or lounging while fully suited. It’s an unexpected, joyful twist on masculinity, and Gries leans into the moment with a confidence and charm that reminds us: aging is not the enemy — especially not in fashion.

A Gay Icon in the Making?

While Greg Hunt may not have officially come out on The White Lotus, queer fans of the show have long speculated about his sexuality — and his motivations. In season two, his relationship with the flamboyant Quentin (played by Tom Hollander) raised more than a few eyebrows. By season three, Greg is reportedly dating a young model named Chloe (played by Charlotte Le Bon) while engaging in voyeuristic fantasies involving other men.

Is Greg queer? The show doesn’t give us a straight answer (no pun intended), but Jon Gries has acknowledged that Greg is complex and morally gray. “He has no interest in having friendships,” Gries said in a previous interview. “Everything was on a contract basis with him. He wants control.”

Queer-coded villain? Repressed bisexual? Emotionally unavailable straight man? Whatever Greg is, he’s messy — and we love that for him.

And while Gries isn’t explicitly discussing sexuality in this campaign, the visual language is deeply queer. Banana motifs? A little skin? Gender play with clothing and presentation? Check, check, and check. In fact, the shoot feels like a wink to queer fans who’ve had their eye on Greg (or at least his motives) since season one.

Jacquemus Knows the Gays Are Watching

Jacquemus, founded by Simon Porte Jacquemus in 2009, has long drawn inspiration from queer culture and art. The label blends high fashion with humor, minimalism with excess, and classic French silhouettes with Mediterranean warmth. Think: camp meets couture. Past campaigns have included same-sex couples, sensuality across the gender spectrum, and a healthy dose of absurdity — so casting Jon Gries? Inspired.

According to Jacquemus’ official brand description, the label “references a French way of life and universal gestures of beauty: from fine art photography to the decorative arts, cinema, painting, and sculpture.” The Gries campaign adds a dose of generational appeal and an “older man chic” energy that’s often missing from mainstream fashion campaigns.

It’s refreshing to see a brand so openly embrace an unconventional muse, especially one who defies the usual standards of youth, abs, and influencer clout. Gries may not be the first person who comes to mind when you think of high fashion — but maybe that’s the point.

Greg Is the Only Constant in ‘The White Lotus’ Universe

Gries remains the only actor to appear in all three seasons of The White Lotus, and his character’s evolution (or, arguably, unraveling) has become one of the show’s juiciest subplots. His first-season arc saw him fall into a whirlwind romance with Tanya McQuoid (Jennifer Coolidge, in her Emmy-winning role). Season two pulled back the curtain to reveal something far more sinister — and possibly queer — beneath the surface.

Season three, which premieres later this year, promises even more twists. Rumor has it Greg is dating a model and exploring a cuckolding kink that involves watching her with other men. Honestly? That’s growth — in a very White Lotus kind of way.

    Queer Aging, Reframed

Gries’ campaign arrives at a time when conversations around aging — particularly in queer and fashion spaces — are becoming more visible. There’s often a toxic emphasis on youth in both industries, but campaigns like this one help shift the narrative. You don’t have to be 25 with a six-pack to be sexy, stylish, or subversive.

In fact, Gries’ presence in the campaign challenges outdated standards of desirability. He’s not the punchline — he’s the look. And that, especially for queer audiences who are used to seeing older men erased or mocked, feels radical.

Whether or not Greg Hunt is gay, and whether or not Jon Gries is on your fashion radar, one thing is clear: the man knows how to serve a look. And in the world of Jacquemus, that’s more than enough.

In the words of Tanya McQuoid: “You’re not just a pretty face… but you’re definitely not boring.”

Netflix Drops Steamy First Teaser for ‘Olympo,’ the New Drama from the Creators of ‘Élite’

Netflix is turning up the heat this summer with Olympo, its latest Spanish-language series from the team behind Élite. On Monday, the streamer unveiled the first teaser for the highly anticipated young adult drama—and it’s already making waves for its sweaty, shirtless intensity.

Created by Jan Matheu, Laia Foguet and Ibai Abad, Olympo follows a group of elite young athletes training at the fictional CAR Pirineos, a prestigious high-performance sports center nestled in the mountains. Part drama, part thriller, the series explores the physical, emotional, and moral trials faced by a generation determined to win—no matter the cost.

According to Netflix’s official synopsis, the story centers on Amaia, the captain of Spain’s national artistic swimming team. Driven, disciplined and relentlessly hard on herself, Amaia is shaken when her best friend and teammate, Núria, suddenly outperforms her. As whispers of “inexplicable” improvements spread through the training center, Amaia and her peers are forced to confront the darker side of ambition. The question at the heart of the series: how far will they go to reach the top?

Though Netflix has kept details tightly under wraps since the project’s announcement in July 2024, Monday’s teaser finally gives fans a glimpse into the world of Olympo. The short trailer doesn’t offer dialogue or direct scenes from the series, but instead features the cast—sweaty, intense, and impossibly toned—competing to climb a human pyramid. The imagery is symbolic, seemingly representing the brutal hierarchy and rivalries brewing at CAR Pirineos.

The teaser also hints at some steamy interpersonal drama, setting the stage for the kind of high-stakes, emotionally charged storytelling that Élite fans have come to expect.

The ensemble cast includes rising Spanish stars Clara Galle, Nira Osahia, Agustín Della Corte, Nuno Gallego, María Romanillos, Martí Cordero, Juan Perales, Andy Duato and Najwa Khliwa.

First-look photos released in February sparked excitement online, but the trailer’s release has officially kicked anticipation into overdrive.

Olympo is set to premiere globally on Netflix on June 20, just in time to heat up your summer watchlist.
