Hilary Duff Thanks Her Gay Fans for Their Endless Support

Hilary Duff says she has felt the support from her gay fans from day one.

Hilary Duff sat down with Pride alongside the rest of the cast of Hulu’s How I Met Your Father to say her gay fans were the first group to take her career seriously.

“I’ve felt that support for many, many years,” she admitted. “Starting with Lizzie McGuire and then having the support system throughout my music career was the biggest thing”. She continued saying she truly fought to get anyone to take her seriously as a singer.

A Huge Push

“I think the gay community was a huge push for me,” she continued. She also said that they stood behind her, and she didn’t even know until her concerts. “Like now the press has to pay attention to this, because look who’s showing up for me,” she said. “Look who’s blasting my sh*t.”

She said her hit Disney show Lizzie McGuire in the early 2000s came at the right time for her fan base.  “I think Lizzie McGuire hit at the right moment where people were vulnerable and learning who they were,” she admitted.  However, she said they weren’t alone in that saying, “I was just along for that moment as well, ’cause I was at the same time in my life. And then my music, you know, was impactful, and [about] becoming who you are and being able to own that. They’ve stuck by my side through lots of breaks and children and some good projects and some bad projects, you know.”

While Duff said, “I just am so deeply appreciative of all of the support that I’ve had since Lizzie McGuire,” she noted, “obviously the gays are the most fun.”

Duff’s fans can keep up with her on Hulu’s How I Met Your Mother with new episodes on Tuesdays.
