The Doctor Who 60th-anniversary specials will be whimsically queer; we can’t wait!
It’s no secret that fan-favorite actors David Tennant and Catherine Tate will reprise their roles as The Doctor and Donna Noble in the upcoming three-part special coming later this year. However, why they are returning and what they are up to remains a mystery. Unfortunately, we don’t have a way to zap our way into the future to find the answers, but we can look at the upcoming trailer and all the new cast members joining the timeline.
New Characters Unlocked in Doctor Who-niverse
Heartstopper star Yasmin Finney is making her Doctor Who debut as Rose Temple-Noble, the daughter of Donna (Tate). She is seen standing next to Tennant’s Doctor as a “spaceship in trouble” falls from the sky.
Later in the clip, we are introduced to Neil Patrick Harris‘s new character, a top hat-wearing Toymaker. If his sinister smirk and dark eyeliner are anything to go off of, he will likely be the main antagonist of the special. Viewers can see Harris and Tennant dancing in a park at the halfway point in the video. You’re welcome.
We also know the episodes for the special will be titled, “The Star Beast,” “Wild Blue Yonder,” and “The Giggle.”
“The titles are just the beginning of the Doctor’s biggest adventure yet,” showrunner Russell T. Davies said in a statement. “Autumn is coming, with three hours of danger, Donna, and disaster about to be unleashed!”
In addition to re-spawning an old doctor, BBC also announced a new doctor: Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa. Newcomer Millie Gibson will join Gatwa as his companion, Ruby Sunday.
