Pedro Pascal’s next role could be his best one yet.
From bounty hunting in space to trekking across a post-outbreak America, Pedro Pascal has certainly been keeping busy. His roles in Disney’s The Mandalorian and HBO Max’s apocalyptic drama The Last of Us have kept Pascal fans well-fed. However, the internet daddy’s next role is one many queer fans are eager to see.
Pascal will star alongside Dead Poets Society‘s Ethan Hawke in the Pedro Almodóvar-directed film, Strange Way of Life. Speaking with Insider, Pascal said he was eager to take the role once he heard of Almodóvar’s involvement.
“[Almodóvar] absolutely opened up an entire world of storytelling, color, culture, rebellion and sexuality that was just absolutely intoxicating, dangerous, hilarious, heartbreaking and encompassing the whole spectrum, but with such a signature style,” he told the outlet.
“It could have been anything that he asked me to do, and I would have done it without question.”

Strange Way of Life Will Tell an Intimate Queer Story
Strange Way of Life is a Western drama about a gunslinging cowboy (Pascal) who travels across the desert on horseback to visit his longtime friend and lover, played by Hawke. To put it simply, it’s a reinvented Brokeback Mountain.
“The story is very intimate,” Almodóvar told IndieWire. “I mean, masculinity is one of the subjects of the movie.”
In that same interview, the director said he turned down directing Brokeback Mountain because he did not think Hollywood would allow “two guys f***ing all the time.” He said Strange Way of Life is his reply to the queer classic. This “intimate” short film might not be one you want to watch with your parents.
Hawke will play Sheriff Jake, Pascal’s love interest. The two men have not seen or spoken to each other in 25 years before their reunion.
“To get to work with Ethan, whose movies I’ve seen since I was a little kid, who I’ve seen on stage off-Broadway, on Broadway, whose books I’ve read, whose plays I’ve seen him direct and big movies, small movies, horror movies,” said Pascal.
“It was really an incredible opportunity to go, learn and to enjoy the experience of being on the level of people like that… Taking it all in was incredible.”
