Riotron and Big Freedia Drop Explosive Pop Anthem

Riotron and Big Freedia create explosive dance anthem with "DROP A BOMB."

Canadian electro-pop daredevil Riotron (Jeff Fettes) isn’t shy about big hooks or bigger visuals, but his new single “DROP A BOMB” levels up both stakes—and speakers—thanks to a powerhouse assist from bounce legend Big Freedia. Written during a late-night Montréal session, the track marries Riotron’s neon synths with Freedia’s trademark call-and-response shouts, creating three minutes of dance-floor detonation that begs for max volume.

Riotron says the song’s message is simple: own every part of yourself and let the world deal with the blast radius. That theme drives the music video, shot in a decommissioned steel mill outside Toronto. Sparks fly (literally) as dancers in LED haz-mat suits spin across conveyor belts while Freedia commands the screen in a chrome trench coat. The clip crescendos with a slow-motion fireball that reveals rainbow smoke—a wink to the LGBTQ communities both artists champion.

Behind the gloss sits meticulous production. Fettes layered 1980s FM synth patches with New Orleans bounce drums, then drenched the mix in side-chain compression so each drop feels like a heartbeat skipping. Freedia recorded vocals in her hometown studio, sending raw takes peppered with ad-libs Riotron refused to trim: “If it ain’t extra, why bother?” he laughs.

TikTok teasers seeded hype weeks early; a 15-second choreo challenge using the chorus has already amassed over 40 million views, with everyone from drag performers to high-school marching bands joining the fray. Spotify added the single to its New Music Friday marquee, and Riotron hints a remix EP is on deck featuring queer DJs from Sydney, Berlin, and São Paulo.

For Fettes, the collaboration is both milestone and manifesto. “Dance music has always been a refuge for outsiders,” he says. “Working with Freedia turns that refuge into a parade.” With “DROP A BOMB,” the duo prove that when self-expression meets seismic bass, liberation isn’t just heard—it’s felt in the floorboards.
