Heartstopper fans: We have a new behind-the-scenes video and a release date!
Rrrriiinnngg! That was the school bell, it’s time for another term at Truham Grammar (and Harvey Greene, of course!). The Heartstopper gang is back for season two, and Netflix has released a new video with hints at what audiences can expect from the characters this season and information on when fans can tune in.
In season one, fans fell in love with Charlie (Joe Locke) and Nick’s (Kit Connor) friendship and their journey to becoming something more. We also got to meet their supportive group of friends, including Elle (Yasmin Finney), Tao (William Gao), Isaac (Tobie Donovan), Tara (Corrinna Brown), and Darcy (Kizzy Edgell). The final episode left us on a high as Charlie and Nick made their relationship official and Nick came out as bisexual to his mom (Olivia Colman). But what adventures wait in season two?
“Nick and Charlie navigate their new relationship, Tara and Darcy face unforeseen challenges and Tao and Elle work out if they can ever be more than just friends. With exams on the horizon, a school trip to Paris and a prom to plan, the gang has a lot to juggle as they journey through the next stages of life, love and friendship.”
That’s right, we are going to Paris! A trip to the city of love may not come as a surprise to everyone as season two is based on Volume three of Alice Oseman’s popular webcomic. However, the author did say readers of the series are still in for a few surprises. “There’s not enough in the book to take a whole season of TV, so there had to be a lot of creation of new stuff,” she said in a statement.
Locke and Kit also weighed in on the direction of the new season
“Charlie goes on more of a journey this season. His story’s a bit more mature,” Locke revealed.
Connor dished that the new script is “amazing” and “feels cool and fresh.” “It’s a different vibe to season one,” he continued.
The sneak-peek also shows Sebastian Croft (Ben), Rhea Norwood (Imogen), Cormac Hyde-Corrin (Harry) and Jenny Walser (Tori) all returning for the next installment. A few new faces will join them, like Leila Khan as Sahar Zahid, Jack Barton as Nick’s older brother David, Bradley Riches as James McEwan, and Nima Taleghani as school teacher Mr. Farouk.
“it’s really gorgeous because they’re such a bonded gang in the comic and in the scripts that [Alice] wrote. And then you have these actors who are also equally bonded and love each other so much,” added executive producer Patrick Walters. “It’s an energy of friendship on set, whenever the actors are there and a whole big gang. It’s really nice.”
Season two of Heartstopper will premiere on August 3. Mark your calendars! It’s going to be a chaotic year at school.
