Anne Hathaway’s Next Role Could Be a Queer Pop Star

Anne Hathaway’s next project will see her playing a pop star in a relationship with a fashion designer (Michaela Coel) and gay Twitter is buzzing.

Anne Hathaway is mother.

Actually, Anne Hathaway is starring in Mother Mary, a new film by A24 and Green Knight‘s David Lowery. Not much is known about the project yet. Still, according to Deadline, it will have Hathaway playing a fictional singer, who is in a relationship with a fashion designer (Black Panther star Michaela Coel). What kind of relationship the movie description hints at is yet to be seen. Still, Twitter users are making their feelings known about a queer Hathaway movie.

The film will also include music from Jack Antonoff – who has worked with stars like Taylor Swift, Lorde, and Carly Rae Jepsen – and Charlie XCX. As long as the plot behaves, this film is shaping up to be VERY queer.

Coel recently made headlines for her performance in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, as a queer Dora Milaje member named Aneka. Though many hoped her character would bring groundbreaking representation to a Marvel movie, production diminished it to a blink-and-you-miss-it forehead kiss. Nevertheless, Coel has previously expressed her interest in portraying queer characters on-screen.

Hathaway has several projects in the works, including her recent queer-coded film, Eileen. The actress plays a counselor named Rebecca whose relationship with a co-worker takes a dark turn.

Now all that’s left to do is wait for a Mother Mary trailer to drop!
