Tony’s Chocolonely and Ben & Jerry’s United For a Chocolate Love A-Fair

Ben & Jerry’s is celebrating their commitment to social justice alongside Tony Chocolonely with two new bar flavors and a new pint of ice cream.

Good news, chocolate lovers! Two cocoa-loving companies have released new flavors just in time for Valentine’s Day.

The Chocolate Love A-Fair includes two chocolate bars inspired by Ben & Jerry’s classic Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Strawberry Cheesecake flavors. One bar mixes Tony’s dark milk chocolate with savory brownie pieces, while the other melts together sweet white chocolate with sticky strawberries and crumbly cookie pieces.

As for ice cream, the new pint is modeled after Tony Chocolonely’s classic milk chocolate and caramel sea salt bar. It features delicious salted caramel swirls, caramel chunks and sea salt chocolatey chunks. And for our plant-based babes, there’s a pint for you too.

However, this collaboration is about more than just creating delicious chocolate treats. Last summer, the famous ice cream brand committed to sourcing its cocoa through Tony’s Open Chain – an initiative that helps companies to end modern slavery and child labor in the chocolate industry.

What Does This Mean?

There are 30,000 cases of modern slavery and 1.56 million cases of child labor in the chocolate industry in Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire. Yes, you read that correctly. The root of the issue is poverty and farmers not being paid fair prices for their products. In response, Tony Chocoloney promises a fully traceable cocoa supply chain and commits to paying farmers a higher price to address poverty in the industry. And that’s just scratching the surface.

Tony’s Five Sourcing Principles:

  1. Traceable cocoa beans
  2. Paying a higher price
  3. Partnering with strong farmers
  4. Long-term commitments
  5. Focus on improved productivity & quality

The limited-edition chocolate bar and ice cream flavors are now available online. Shop the sweets here.
