Harry Styles’ Same-Sex Kiss Nominated for MTV Award

Harry Styles could be on his way to the Make-out Hall of Fame!

It’s no secret that Harry Styles’ performance in Michael Grandage’s My Policeman took the internet by storm in 2022. Not only was it the Grammy Award-winning singer’s second acting performance (not including his appearance on Nickelodeons’s iCarly), but it also had him making out with a man in multiple scenes. The film was met with mixed reviews by critics but earned a 96% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

In the film, Styles stars as a young policeman named Tom, who falls in love with Patrick (David Dawson), a museum curator, in 1950s Brighton. The heartfelt tragedy is all about longing, regret, and lost time. But don’t be fooled, My Policeman is also riddled with steamy scenes you should not watch with your parents.

Speaking of steamy smooches, MTV released the nominees for this year’s Best Kiss award, including Styles and Dawson’s performance. The honor of Best Kiss has previously gone to many memorable Hollywood moments like Toby Maguire and Kirsten Dunst’s upside-down smooch in Spiderman and Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart’s kisses in the Twilight saga – which snagged them four awards in a row. Of course, no one can forget Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger’s passionate kiss in Brokeback Mountain in 2006.

Styles’ same-sex kiss is not the only one up for an award this year. Selena Gomez is also a nominee in the Best Kiss category for her lip-lock with close friend Cara Delevingne in the hit mystery series, Only Murders in the Building. Other nominated shows include Outer Banks, The Last of Us, and Daisy Jones & the Six.

MTV Biggest Snubs

Unfortunately, the kiss recognized by MTV in The Last of Us is not the kiss we were rooting for. The hit show featured two beautiful queer love stories in its first season, including Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman’s tragic love story in episode three and Bella Ramsey and Storm Reid’s tender moment in episode seven. However, you won’t see wither smooch on the list. Instead, the kiss chosen is one between Anna Torv and Philip Prajoux, which director Craig Mazin describes as “disturbing and violative.”

The Last of Us us is also being recognized for Best Show, Best Breakthrough Performance, Best Hero, and Best Duo. Styles is also up for an MTV award for Best Villain for Don’t Worry Darling.
