Rihanna Announces Queer Stars Walking in Fashion Show and New Music

Rihanna is making a stunning return to the industry with a new song and fashion show.

It’s been nearly seven years since the nine-time Grammy Award-winning artist Rihanna released solo music. This is why fans went wild when the “Umbrella” singer began teasing a new track on her socials.

“Lift Me Up,” is a part of the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever soundtrack and is a tribute to the late Chadwick Boseman. Rihanna co-wrote the song with Nigerian singer/songwriter Tems, Ludwig Göransson, and director Ryan Coogler.

“I wanted to write something that portrays a warm embrace from all the people that I’ve lost in my life,” Tems said in a press release. “I tried to imagine what it would feel like if I could sing to them now and express how much I miss them. Rihanna has been an inspiration to me so hearing her convey this song is a great honor.”

Rihanna has not released music since 2016 when she gifted us with her eighth studio album, ANTI. Her comeback “Lift Me Up” is a soulful ballad that will have you fighting back tears during the first 30 seconds. Or is that just me?

“Lift me up/Hold me down/Keep me close/Safe and sound.” Rihanna sings.

The work work work Rihanna is putting in lately doesn’t end there. Back in September, it was announced that she would play the Super Bowl halftime show on February 12. The artist casually broke the news on Instagram when she posted a photo of her hand holding a football. PERIOD.

Though RiRi’s music career has been on hold, the businesswoman has been keeping busy with her other endeavors. She recently announced the performers for her Savage X Fenty Vol. 4 fashion show, and we have our eye on the amazing queer talent.

In the past, Rihanna has included rising and shining LGBTQ+ stars to walk the runway for her lingerie line. This includes Drag Race queens like Shea Couleé, Jaida Essence Hall, Gigi Goode, Symone, Gottmik, Aquaria, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, and Milk. Queer artists such as Ricky Martin, Lizzo, Rico Nasty, Bad Bunny, and Diplo have also performed during the show. So who is on the lineup this year?
