Showtime Cancels ‘The L Word: Generation Q’ But Here’s the Catch

The L Word: Generation Q will not return for a fourth season, but that does not mean this is the end.

The L Word, created by Ilene Chaiken, first premiered in 2004 and ran until 2009. It followed a group of queer women in West Hollywood attempting to navigate life, love, and everything in between. Showtime revived the series a decade later and called it, The L Word: Generation Q. The revival brought mixed the original cast, like Jennifer Beals (Bette), Kate Moennig (Shane), and Leisha Hailey (Alice), while introducing new characters like Dani (Arienne Mandi), Gigi (Sepideh Moafi), Micah (Leo Sheng), and Sarah (Jacqueline Toboni).

Despite mixed reviews of the revival series, Generation Q ran for three seasons, the last season ending days before Showtime decided to pull the plug. The cancelation is a part of the network’s merger with Paramount+. According to Deadline, no Showtime series has been renewed since the integration.

Now for the hopeful news! The network is working on yet another reboot of the original series, titled The L Word: New York. Whether or not the original cast will return for the reboot remains to be seen, but we know Chaiken will be involved in the new project in some capacity.

We hate seeing another LGBTQ+ series get the boot. It’s been a rough 2023 already. But at least some fans on Twitter are excited about the new iteration.
