Bad Bunny Talks First On-Screen Kiss With a Man

Bad Bunny has opened up about his big on-screen same-sex smooch.

In case you missed it, the Puerto Rican rapper has added acting to his resume. Bad Bunny recently starred in the Roger Ross Williams-directed biopic, Cassandro, which follows the true story of a gay amateur wrestler from El Paso.

Starring alongside Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, is seasoned Mexican actor Gael García Bernal. Bernal plays the lead protagonist, Cassandro, while Bad Bunny plays one of his lovers.

Speaking to Time Magazine, the singer reflected on his set experience and first on-screen kiss.

“My first kiss for a movie and it was with a man,” he said. “That’s the penalty I get for being with so many women during my life.”

Jokes aside, Bad Bunny said he was ready to play a queer character and did not take his time on set for granted.

“If you’re acting, you’re being someone you’re not,” he continued. “So when they asked me for that, I said, ‘Yes, I’m here for whatever you want.’ I think it was very cool; I didn’t feel uncomfortable.”

Bad Bunny’s Support for the LGBTQ+ Community

Though this was his first time kissing someone for a movie, this was not his first time kissing a man. Last year, he kissed his male backup dancer during a performance at the MTV Video Music awards.

The artist has also been a strong LGBTQ+ advocate. In 2020, he made a statement on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon when he wore a shirt honoring Alexa Negrón Luciano, a homeless trans woman who was murdered in Puerto Rico. This year, he will be given GLAAD’s Vanguard Award for championing queer visibility in Latinx culture.

The “I Like It” singer has also championed against toxic masculinity and is not afraid to rock a dress.

“To me, a dress is a dress,” he told GQ in 2022. “If I wear a dress, would it stop being a woman’s dress? Or vice versa? Like, no. It’s a dress, and that’s it. It’s not a man’s, it’s not a woman’s. It’s a dress.”

Cassandro first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January but we are still waiting on an official release date. Bummer!
