The Verdict is in on Ezra Miller’s ‘The Flash’ Movie

Though the film is not slated to hit theaters until later this summer, critics are already weighing in on the highly anticipated DC release, The Flash. The film famously stars Ezra Miller as Barry Allen and welcomes the return of Michael Keaton as Batman.

Audiences already have mixed reviews about the film due to the hot water Miller has been stewing in since an incident in Iceland in 2020. The actor, who uses they/them pronouns, rose to fame for their portrayal in 2012’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower. They have been at the core of several public controversies following a series of arrests and assault charges.

Despite the incidents, Warner Bros. decided not to replace Miller in the film and to continue as planned with a summer 2023 release. Now, critics have shared their initial thoughts about the movie with their followers online. So far, it’s been called the “best superhero film of all time” by multiple sources on Twitter.

DC also released a three-minute trailer for The Flash with highlights Miller’s Allen, Keaton’s Batman, and Sasha Calle’s Supergirl.

“Worlds collide when the Flash uses his superpowers to travel back in time to change the events of the past,” reads the official description. “However, when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, he becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation. With no other superheroes to turn to, the Flash looks to coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian — albeit not the one he’s looking for.”

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the premiere of The Flash, which experienced several delays and will hit theaters five years after its original release date. Miller’s actions did not help with the delays. However, if the reviews are right, the film might be one worth waiting for.

Last year, Miller issued a statement apologizing for their actions. “Having recently gone through a time of intense crisis, I now understand that I am suffering complex mental health issues and have begun ongoing treatment,” Miller wrote in a statement shared with Variety. “I want to apologize to everyone that I have alarmed and upset with my past behavior. I am committed to doing the necessary work to get back to a healthy, safe and productive stage in my life.”

The Flash will also star Ben Affleck, Kiersey Clemons, Michael Shannon and many more familiar faces. See The Flash in theaters on June 16.
