First Look at Jonathan Bailey’s Fiyero in Upcoming ‘Wicked’ Movies

Jonathan Bailey and Ariana Grande have been spotted in costume on the upcoming Wicked movie set. 

In case you have not heard, Bridgerton hottie Jonathan Bailey is soon dancing his way onto our movie screens in the upcoming film adaptation of the Broadway musical, Wicked. Bailey – well-known as the hunky Viscount Bridgerton in the popular Netflix series – will now be taking on the role of Fiyero, the love interest of Glinda and Elphaba.

Filming for the movie is officially underway, and we already have a sneak peek of the 35-year-old actor on set in Buckinghamshire, England, with costar Ariana Grande (Glinda). Based on their outfits, they were likely filming the engagement scene (but we won’t know for sure until the movie’s release). Can we take a moment to admire Bailey in green and Grande in this lovely lavender ballgown? Please forgive me for the person I become when this movie releases.

Back in September of 2022, Bailey posted a cheeky photo in the sun with the caption “dancing through,” alongside emojis of the Canadian flag and a green heart. Wicked director Jon M. Chu then confirmed the news by writing, “Welcome to Oz. 😉 see you soon Prince.”

All About Oz

Wicked is a prequel story to The Wizard of Oz, a whimsical tale of how Dorothy followed the yellow brick road to find her way home. Then, Gregory Maguire wrote the origin story for The Wicked Witch of the West (Elphaba) and Glinda the Good Witch. Playwright Winnie Holzman then transformed the story into a Tony Award-winning Broadway production.

The film also stars Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, and Jeff Goldblum as The Wizard of Oz. Check out more behind-the-scenes photos below.

Wicked will be released in two parts. The first film will hit theaters on November 27, 2024, and the second in December 2025.
