Why ‘Saltburn’ is the Erotic Gay Thriller You Need to See

Here’s when you can watch the new gay thriller, Saltburn, starring Jacob Elordi and Barry Keoghan!

Written and directed by Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman), Saltburn is in talks to be THE gay drama of the year! So far, in 2023, we have gushed over lighthearted LGBTQ+ projects like Netflix’s Heartstopper and the upcoming Amazon film Red, White & Royal Blue. But as the summer months end and fall approaches, so does a darker era of queer cinema.

What is Saltburn About?

Back in the early Noughties, at Oxford University, Oliver is on a quest to find his place and uncover his real identity. He’s completely captivated by Felix, a fellow student who’s not only charming but also comes from an aristocratic background. This fascination leads Oliver into the intriguing realm of Felix’s peculiar family, living in their grand estate in Saltburn—the very town that gives the movie its name. A gripping summary of the story hints at an unforgettable summer ahead, mixing excitement and mystery.

The film also promises some explicit and NSFW scenes, which has us on the edge of our seats in anticipation. According to World of Reel, some of the nude scenes “will shock” audiences. Well, now we have to see it. Especially considering it is set to star Euphoria hottie Jacob Elordi and his equally handsome costar Barry Keoghan (Eternals).

The two have even been spotted working out together and attending Lakers games together! Is it hot in here or is it just us?

Meet the Cast

Adding to this impressive lineup is the talented Carey Mulligan. Fresh from her 2021 Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role in Promising Young Woman, Mulligan is set to dazzle once more in an undisclosed part. The film also features fellow Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike and renowned actor Richard E. Grant, who takes on the role of Sir James.

Saltburn promises to be a masterpiece, backed by production talents like Josey McNamara, Tom Ackerley, and Margot Robbie—associates from Promising Young Woman and Barbie.

With the ongoing Hollywood strike causing a lull in cinema, Saltburn‘s premiere on November 24 brings a ray of cinematic hope. The film will debut in New York and Los Angeles before reaching a broader audience on December 1, taking us on a captivating journey of queer passion, self-discovery, and sensuality. We all better buckle up for a thrilling ride into the depths of desire and identity when Saltburn hits theaters.
