Reneé Rapp Talks Straight Girl Crushes

Regina George from the 2004 classic Mean Girls remains a cult favorite, etching herself into the cultural zeitgeist. Played by Rachel McAdams, Regina’s character is a total baddie full of undeniable allure.

“Rachel McAdams was a big crush of mine as a kid and still is,” Rapp revealed. “I’ve spent a lot of the last couple of weeks publicly hitting on her. I’ll continue to do so. It’s my civic duty. She’s amazing.”

Amen to that! But what makes Regina such a queer icon? Is it her blonde locks or the art of delivering insults that leave people oddly grateful?

“I think there’s something, at least in my experience, when you’re in high school, there’s something in the really popular hot straight girl as maybe a closeted or out gay person that’s really attractive in a different way.” Rapp continued. “And I don’t really know how to explain it, but I think it’s like there’s some lore that’s like, oh my God, I remember that girl for me in middle school and high school was always straight. Was always straight. And I was obsessed. So I think that for me has always been there.”

Regina George is Gay

Though the Regina George we all have come to know and love has been portrayed as very straight, the “Snow Angel” singer said her version will challenge that. “And then I also think now playing this character myself, I’m very determined to just be quite stubborn and insist that a character that I play is probably going to have my identity. Unless I’m trying to have a Rachel McAdams run and do The Notebook and do a straight Notebook. But I don’t think I’m trying to do that. So yeah, I think it just kind of inherently is because a gay person is doing it that meme that’s like, why is that dog sitting gay? Do you know what I mean? You know what I’m talking about? It’s like, why is that dog sat gay and it’s like a dog like this? And it’s like, that dog is gay. To be clear. Right? It’s like, why does she walk gay? Because she’s gay.”

Why is Regina George so gay in the new Mean Girls movie? Because she is gay. The End.
