The bisexual actress tells all.
We’ve eagerly awaited the premiere of Marvel’s latest superhero film Thor: Love and Thunder. Why? Because we’re excited about the plot, of course. And by plot, we mean Thor’s rumored nude scene, Jane Foster as the Mighty Thor, and Valkyrie as the King of Asgard.

But will Thor: Love and Thunder finally give us the quality queer representation in a Marvel movie we’ve been waiting for? Will she find a Queen? Tessa Thompson warns LGBTQ+ fans not to get their hopes up for a queer romance this time around.
Tessa Thompson Talks Representation in Thor
Thompson told Yahoo the Thor team discussed the best way to bring her character’s sexuality into the film’s plot.
“I think, rightfully, there’s this real want in audiences to see characters be very clearly queer or LGBTQIA inside these spaces. And I think it’s hugely important to have representation.”
Yes, we couldn’t agree more! But as far as love goes, Thompson said it wasn’t Valkyrie’s time to explore a relationship.
“And also as humans, I think that we are not defined by our sexuality, and by who we love. And so sometimes I think to hang a narrative completely on that is a way of actually diminishing the humanity of the character. Because you don’t allow them to be anything else.”
Thor’s Story Continues…
In Thor: Love and Thunder, Valkyrie is recruited by Thor to join him in his fight against galactic killer Gorr the God Butcher (Christian Bale). Korg and Jane are also along for the ride and “together, they set out on a harrowing cosmic adventure to uncover the mystery of the God Butcher’s vengeance.”
Not to mention Thor is on a journey to find inner peace alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy. There’s a lot to unpack in this film, and according to Thompson, not a lot of time for dating.

“It becomes the only storyline, particularly in a movie like this where you don’t, frankly, have a lot of room for the storyline,” she continued. “So there was a lot of conversation in terms of how to treat that with Valkyrie. And I feel really good, personally, about where we got to.”
Marvel Cut an LGBTQ+ Scene From Thor: Ragnorok
A scene was reportedly filmed confirming Valkyrie’s sexuality in Thor: Ragnorok, but they cut it from the final movie because it “distracted from the scene’s vital exposition.” The Asgardian warrior is canonically bisexual in the comics and we’re hoping this next installment does her justice.
Either way, the bisexual actress says she has always played Valkyrie with her sexuality in mind and hopes the character continues to bring representation to young queer youth.
“I hope that she’s a character that fans continue to connect to, that we have a lot of time to explore her, in all of her humanity. But whether or not she finds love in this movie doesn’t mean she’s not still a fabulous queer character that is open to finding love when it makes sense.”
