The Hallmark Channel is Releasing a Gay Fall Film Starring Luke Macfarlane

It’s official – Hallmark Channel is giving us another fluffy queer romance movie to obsess over this fall.

With colder temperatures and warm drinks right around the corner, it’s time to start looking into our fall movie line-up for 2023. After all, the best way to spend a rainy fall afternoon is curled up on the couch with a cheesy romance movie and at least three blankets.

Luckily, Hallmark has just revealed the lineup for their Fall into Love programming and this perfectly cheesy gay rom-com is definitely the highlight!

Notes of Autumn

In Notes of Autumn, meet Ellie (Ashley Williams), a city-dwelling, classically trained pianist who is in a bit of a rut. she can’t seem to get her musical career off the ground so she’s passing the time working at a hotel until she can figure out how to stop “getting things wrong when musical inspiration strikes.”

Meanwhile, her buddy Leo (Bros star Luke Macfarlane) resides in the cozy outskirts of British Columbia. He is a famous author struggling to conclude his hit book series. Both needing a getaway, the two decide to switch houses to see if a change in scenery will help them see things more clearly.

Amidst Leo’s world, Ellie finds herself tangled in helping neighbor Sam (Marcus Rosner) arrange a musical fundraiser. This new task may just help her rediscover why she fell in love with music in the first place. Then there is Leo. He befriends Ellie’s pal Matt (Peter Porte) and explores a fresh, inspiring writing path.

It’s like a gay spin on The Holiday! But this time it takes place during the best season of the year!

Notes From the Team

Singer-songwriter and actress Debbie Gibson, who serves as an executive producer on the project, said she is thrilled to be working with Hallmark during such an exciting time.

“This is a special story that celebrates how love can blossom in the most unexpected ways.”

“The journeys of these characters and the paths their relationships take are handled with tenderness, compassion and explored in meaningful ways,” added Bart Fisher, Vice President, Programming, Hallmark Media. “This movie celebrates the fall season in a fun, contemporary way and has something for everyone.”

How The Hallmark Channel Embraces Diverse Storytelling

In 2020, the Hallmark Channel debuted its first-ever movie featuring a same-sex couple. Then in 2022, The Holiday Sitter became the network’s first Christmas movie to have a leading gay couple. With the addition of Notes of Autumn, it’s heartening to witness this network, renowned for its traditional romantic films, taking significant steps toward inclusivity and representation.

Notes of Autumn will premiere on September 16 on The Hallmark Channel.
