Oscar-nominated writer John Logan makes his directing debut with They/Them, a slasher set in a conversion-therapy camp. Logan tells Gayety he created “seven queer heroes” so LGBTQ+ viewers finally see themselves survive the night, not just supply jump scares. The film’s title is a double play on non-binary pronouns and the genre’s classic “us vs. them” tension, while a surprise musical number shows the campers claiming joy amid terror. Logan hopes the movie proves horror can spotlight queer strength instead of queer trauma.
